  1. What's the normal backlight life on the Lynx 2? Is it just a real strong LED? Easy to replace, even with a non-OEM part?
  2. I just received my first Lynx ever today and figured that if one turns off the backlight, you could still play the game -- kind of like the Gameboy Advance. When I turn the backlight off however, the screen is not decipherable. Is this behavior correct? What's the point of being able to turn the backlight off then, just to save the battery while pausing?
  3. Just picked up a 9v 300mA adapter from Radio Shack, along with the correct tip. Works like a charm.
  4. Anyone with a sizable SMS collection would know it *does* hold a candle to the NES. The library wasn't as huge, but there weren't as many duds in it either.
  5. Owning Rampage and Double Dragon as a kid would have made me so happy. I don't know if it was where I lived or what, but none of the interesting 7800 titles ever appeared in stores. Anyway, at least I had Rampage when I got an SMS.
  6. The Jaguar didn't need a slogan, it just needed one killer intro game ala Sonic or Mario, or one must-have game ala Street Fighter. Tempest, AvP, and others were cool -- but they just didn't attract the same more general audience. Atari should've learned from the 7800 that rehashed 80s arcade titles weren't enough to sell a console. If my memory serves me correctly, the Jaguar was introduced at $249 when the SNES and Genesis dropped to $120-50; the folks interested in something like Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, or AvP were already getting a taste of first-person games on their PCs at home. All that said, I wouldn't bash the system like others here have. When it came out I wanted one, but not as much as a sampler It had a geek appeal to me, and it still does -- but that didn't sell well at the time. As for a slogan, perhaps they could've borrowed from Apple's upcoming PR campaign of "Think Different" and used "Play Different."
  7. I don't know if this is a repost or not, but a search didn't turn up anything. This is a video of two guys racing to beat Super Mario Bros.: http://ebaumsworld.com/2006/04/smbrace.html
  8. I'm looking to buy a Stun Runner for the Lynx. I don't need a box or instructions -- just the cart. PM me with your price. Thanks.
  9. I never cared about the 16-bit vs. 8-bit debate for the TG16. It had games that compared to what the Genesis and SNES offered, and that's all that really mattered to me. The Jaguar 64-bitness debate doesn't matter to me really either, much like benchmarks between Macs and PCs don't matter a hell of a lot to me. They're statistical numbers for technical evaluation and comparison by people who need to know; it has no bearing on the end user experience, generally. It's like comparing the G5 Macs to the new Intel Macs and saying the Intel ones suck because they're only 32-bit. There's a small population who need 64-bits, but for most people it's another corporate marketing gimmick to encourage a purchase. People (especially Americans it seems) are infatuated with 'bigness;' larger numbers equates to getting 'more bang for the buck' and marketing people are well aware of this; whether or not it actually transfers into a superior product or experience is an entirely different story.
  10. I whole game is pretty bizarre really, which is part of why it's so great.
  11. So is it a big problem if the Lynx is receiving 1200mA instead of 300mA?
  12. I just looked at the power adapter for a microphone mixer I own and noticed it's the exact same adapter, which I bought from Radio Shack before I will need to wait for the actual Lynx to arrive to know if the tip is the correct size though.
  13. I've always had trouble bringing myself to bid on anything sold by an individual who uses caps lock. I mean, if a grown man can't figure out how to turn that off, how competent will he be at packaging and shipping on time?
  14. Should this do the trick? They also have one without the power tip so an appropriate one could be attached. Otherwise I'll buy an official one off of eBay.
  15. I just scored a Lynx 2 off eBay and am looking at AC adapters for sale. Is it necessary to buy an Atari-branded adapter for the unit, or should I be able to get one from Radio Shack?
  16. I was in an auction for one last night but wasn't home to bid, and ended up losing by $1. It was a nice package too with some decent games. Still waiting.
  17. Anyone have experience with ordering an NTSC to PAL converter for a PSX 2 On-Line? Where's the best place to obtain one, preferably within the US? Thanks.
  18. My opinion hasn't really changed. When it was first released it was a curiosity. I knew all of the games weren't masterpieces, but it was such a unique system that I wanted to own it. I'm drawn to it for the same reason now really. It's my nature to root for the underdog, but I'm not delusional enough to say that every Jaguar game is fantastic.
  19. You have no idea how happy I would have been to offer you this in 1991 or 1990.
  20. Master System is my all-time favorite, though I have no real desire to own one physically. Emulation is good enough for me.
  21. I'm entertaining the thought of buying a Lynx II in good condition with some or all of the following games: STUN Runner, Road Blasters, Rygar, Klax, APB, California Games, Double Dragon, Gauntlet, Hard Drivin', Ms. Pac Man, Ninja Gaiden, Pit-Fighter, Raiden, Rampage, Super Off Road. I'm not really interested in any other games at this point. Send me a PM with a possible price.
