  1. Alf! I always wanted to play that and totally forgot about it. Time to load up the emu. I also forgot Vigilante in the last post.
  2. It's the only console I regret selling. My collection was fantastic, and if you're in the US, it has a rarity factor. Alex Kidd in Shinobi World, Shinobi, Alien Syndrome, Space Harrier, Rampage, Double Dragon, R-Type, Kung-Fu, and others I can't think of right now.
  3. Anyone know of a decent 7800 emulator for OS X? Last time I checked I couldn't find one period, though that was probably a year ago.
  4. MIDI adapter? The ST was frequently used as a MIDI controller in studios, especially judging from the shape of the plug.
  5. I honestly can't remember. When I was four or younger my sister had (what I believe) was an Intellivision, which she gave to me and I sold to put toward a monitor for my c64 a couple years later. I can remember watching my cousins playing 2600 and ripping the cartridge out because they wouldn't let me play. On the Inteelivision I remember a Blackjack and Hangman game, perhaps something else. I have some faint memories of sitting on a stool at a local arcade playing some game (Defender maybe?) and playing tabletop Pac Man at a Pizza Hut. First solid memories are of Pitfall and Frogger on my c64 though, the cartridge versions (a datasette came later, then a 1541). I don't know which game got me hooked; I guess I was from the first generation that grew into gaming. It's like asking what's the first TV program you saw -- I have no idea, it's always been there.
  6. When I owned the 7800 Food Fight was a favorite, with Ms. Pac Man probably being second. My favorite version of Galaga is actually Galaga '99 on TG16, even more so than the Galaga '98 arcade game. I think it has a lot to do with which version you played most frequently, which is why I enjoy Shinobi on my SMS more than the arcade version.
  7. Ordinarily it might be my Mac, Gamecube, or GBA, but since I've acquired a Jaguar I voted for "other."
  8. I had this datasette for my C64, which was a hand me down from my cousin who had a VIC-20; the decks were interchangeable (the interfaces were exactly the same). I have a third-party datasette at my mother's house, though I can't remember who the manufacture was. I acquired it in the late 90s when I was trying to relive some c64 nostalgia and purchased it with a 1541 and breadbox c64.
  9. I haven't gotten a failed boot screen in days now. Maybe there was some dust or dirt on the carts that eventually got knocked off. Though I still wonder if it's good to leave a cartridge in it at all times. When these machines were new I never thought much about it, however with older machines you have to take precautions.
  10. First time I saw a photo of the man who single-handily destroyed two great corporations.
  11. There was so many good games for the c64 that could be gotten for $10-20 even as new releases, usually at department stores. Stuff like Forbidden Forrest was released by Cosmi, and I doubt it was more than $20 new -- and it came on cassette and disk in the same box! Actually, that was one of my favorite games before I got a 1541, and was stuck with the datasette my cousin gave me from his VIC-20. I don't think I saw anyone mention Skate or Die, which was a must-own game to me. Also, any game produced by Epyx generally meant quality. To this day I'm still fond of their controller, which felt great to me as a lefty. If my apartment wasn't so small I'd grab my c64 from my mom's house, though there's a problem with the AC plug where if it is bumped, the power goes off.
  12. I just received it today. Everything seems to be working fine However I noticed I'd occasionally get a failed boot screen. The more carts I used the less this seemed to occur. I also blew some compressed air into the cartridge slot. What's the ideal way to keep a cartridge-based system while not in use, with a cartridge in it preventing dust from sitting, or without the cartridge?
  13. I just received my Jaguar collection today. This is my meager beginning.
  14. When the Jaguar came out I was contemplating the purchase of it, but decided I wanted a sampler instead. By the time I was interested in video games again the Jaguar had seen better days. Yet the Jaguar always had some kind of allure. It had a weird architecture, strange controller (for its time, anyway), and it was Atari's last machine. I was a fan of the 2600 and 7800 as a kid as well. I always wanted to try it out, but there's no real working emulator. So I decided to buy one off eBay. I was able to score a Jaguar with AC adapter, S-Video cable, two controllers and the following games: Alien vs. Predator, Atari Karts, Checkered Flag, Cybermorph, Defender 2000, Iron Soldier, Power Drive Rally, Sensible Soccer, Super Burnout, Tempest 2000, Theme Park, Trevor Mcfur, Troy Aikman Football, and Val d'Isere Skiing and Snowboarding, and Wolfenstein 3d. Additionally I picked up Raiden in a separate auction (I always wanted to play the Jaguar version). There's a few duds in there, but there's also some of the Jag's best titles, and most include the boxes and instructions. Anyway, I'm eagerly awaiting its arrival. Modern consoles and games just aren't cutting it for me anymore. I've never been a serious collector of any console, but the Jag is a perfect one to begin with.
