I bought one of the first iCade units a number of years ago. I had an old ipad3 that was jailbroken just to run Mame4All. Well its basically impossible for me to use this anymore as I cant permanently jailbreak the ipad and its essentially useless(Apple should just set these things free but thats another discussion). So, I have an older Samsung tablet thats running what I assume is a newer than v5 Android version. For some dumb reason it appears that after v5 of Android the iCade no longer works as a bluetooh "keyboard" (despite it connecting as an input device). So the question is has anyone been able to use their iCade unit with an Android device on v5 or newer or am I at the point that I should just throw the iCade away?

Putt-Putt Joins the Parade
Goochman replied to classicgamer74's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
We got Putt Putt wins the race I believe for my son many many years ago. He was like 5 and got a bit frustrated with it even though the animation and such were pretty for a Win98 game at the time. A few years later I decided I wanted to finish the whole game since it intrigued me how much there was to do and I wanted to see the end. Needless to say I dont believe any 5-7 year old had much of a chance winning this thing - there were a few challenging puzzles for myself but it was a pretty well put together program. Didnt realize there was a series. -

Today (2019) what drive emulator would you recommend for 800XL?
Goochman replied to as4VP's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Ok I got it now - He should post a bit clearer picture since this unit is different than the other cased ones -

I guess what Im missing is whats required to connect a SIO cable to it - even in that picture it appears to be 5 wires soldered to the black piece which I guess is the header that is then screwed into the posts in the unit? -

I saw that - Im just not sure if that header is included or not???? -

The clear case one doesnt appear to have a SIO port - its not clear to me on how one would wire up and connect to your 8bit? Does it come with the external sio connector that you have to run the 5 wires to or what???? -
Pop band Duran Duran playing Atari Gravitar
Goochman replied to Kombalar's topic in Arcade and Pinball
Been a fan since the 80's and am not a "boy band" fan. They had some pretty good deep songs which were over shadowed by some of popular pop hits. They def had some of the best videos . The Wedding Album (Ordinary World) was one of their best. It brought a whole new crowd to the band who still tours. I never saw them in the 80s but have seen them 5 times since the 90s. They put on a good show. Ironically my kids heard the Paper Gods song and liked it along with some of their friends. -
Does Jaguar have 3d geometry ? 3D Graphic GPU?
Goochman replied to Oleg Raven Moiseyev's topic in Atari Jaguar
ADisak missed the point - if the gamer wanted to brak down stats and timings he would've played Civilization - for a basketball game which is based upon a simple silly movie, the gamer wants to pick up the controller and kick some bball butt. -
Okimate 10 was not Epson compatible, but was the precursor to being a "Ribbon" company vs a printer company like HP has become

3 things would've set the Jag up for a bang upon release: Doom (which was delayed way too long), Virtura Racing, Virtua Fighter. The Virtua Series was pretty hot when the Jag came out and Checkered Flag was billed as a Racing competitor (NOT!). Follow those titles up with AvP and Tempest 2K and the Jag might've gotten a decent following. Instead the launh titles were crap and underwhelming to say the least. I bought Club Drive and that was a turd in the punch bowl.

I bought this game when it came out to try and support the 8bit line. I wasnt much of a manual reader and quickly got frustrated and stopped playing. About a year later I read the manual and gave it another go. It wasnt too terribly difficult after reading the manual and a decent game if I recall correctly.

IN addition to the things you mentioned another big reason is not creating a path forward as to not kill the cash cow 2600. Kassar didnt understand you cant design a coat and run with it for 20 years in the video game biz.
-
Only thing that could've saved the Jag was not having Ray Kassar hired to run the company way back. Then Atari wouldnt have folded like a cheap suit and never had the bankroll to release anything at scale.

Okimate 10 was a great idea poorly implemented. The print head would get crushed if you used regular paper - but atleast it was easily replaceable. The biggest drawback was the ink ribbon. It had I believe 3 colors in a row which were as long as a line of paper. The printer would pass through all the colors for each line so if you had 0 or just a pixel of yellow you just used that whole piece of ribbon. Printing color just killed its usefulness. With the black ribbon it looked good but was very slow. I got a Panasonic KXP 1081 or 1091 shortly after my Okimate debacle.

As for the Bert and Ernie chips, IIRC that documentation has never come out of the closet -

Upcoming full-size Legends Pinball home machine revealed
Goochman replied to Bill Loguidice's topic in Dedicated Systems
You have my attention! Key to these pin sims is the clarity of the screen. I played one that had Black Knight 2000 (my fav) and it was hard to discern the top level from the bottom as the screen was a bit washed out and playfield distorted. Hoping this has a good presentation of the playfield! -
Yup it must've been the 286 - I think you can get the 3.1 disks on the internet these days - maybe worth trying for someone with their AD-Speed 286 setup.
-
Dont ask me why this popped into my brain when reading this but I believe Win 3.1 required some sort of memory mgmt capability built into the 386 and not available in the 286. I could be 150% wrong on this though

Alternate Reality: The Dungeon Atarimax cartridge.
Goochman replied to Wilheim's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Im pretty sure the Dungeon strips alot of stuff from a City character during the conversion process. It didnt let you bring a god like character down so you could lay waste to the Dungeon right away IIRC. Having said that some stuff did carry down but I cant tell you what. -
Did some Atari 800's not have RAM carts inside?
Goochman replied to TapperP's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
a buddy of mine his Dad had a 400 and 800 on 24x7 365. 1 was connected to an antenna pointed at Space - think pre-SETI. The other was hooked up to a seismograph checking for earthquake activity. The seismograph picked up Mt St Helens eruption and we were located on the East Coast of the US. He had to reboot the machines maybe once a month - but they never overheated and ran for atleast the 3 years I knew the guy. -
