6 minutes ago, jblenkle said:I was also going to suggest B&C as I have had good luck with them, but when I went to their web page last night it is devoid of listings and there was a message on each page saying:
ST Hardware Last change 08/03/2018 Temporarily not available due to Maintanence. Sorry we we have had several of our Windows XP Systems crash that we use to update our prices list so have not been able to update price and stock levels on many items. I am trying hard to correct this but just do not have the time right now.
As it is dated in 2018, I'm wondering if they are still in business.
Send him an email on what you want

No knock on B&C but there are order minimums. I ran into this when I needed a SF314 cable and purchased mine from Bruce at www.myatari.com
Both guys are nice and responsive, but if you dont meet the min for your drive cable with B&C you will need to buy something else.

So I stumbled upon the pinned Flashrom topic and it got me to invest in a FlashRom 99 for my beige/white TI-99 4/a which I almost sold!
I downloaded alot of the images and such posted in the other thread. There is a starter zip file which has files placed in a directory hierarchy as follows:
DEMOS
DEV
EDU
GAMES
HOMEBREW
TOOLS
in reading the instructions for the FR99 it appears that it only reads the root directory to build its menu, so I copied (not move) the roms from the GAMES directory to the root of the SD card.
When I turn on my TI with the FR99 I get a menu listing games, however I get multiple listings for the same game.
For example - Ms Pacman shows up 3 times and only the last entry runs. The other 2 entries dont run. This is the same for a number of games on the menu.
So my question is does the FR99 look into directories in order to create its menu or is there another reason why I get 3 entries?
Some games dont work - most of these load (I see the spinning circle in the bottom RH corner), but stay stuck on a blue screen. Would this be because I dont have a 32k module?
Some games go to a black screen with no rhyme or reason?
One game that Id like to play is Munch Man - this only shows up in the menu once and it stops in a blue screen. I would think Munch Man should be an 8k game that would run fine from a FR99? Does anyone have a known working rom of Munchman that works through the FR99 and no memory expansion? Munch Man II works just fine, but it also has 3 menu entries.
Finally - does anyone know of a place I could get a reasonably priced 32k ram expansion for my basic Ti-99 4/a?

Nice work and Im sure alot of effort. Only thing I wish you could've added was the XEGS since technically it was a console released with the 7800. You'd only need to add the XEGS version where the 5200 did not have a release, otherwise the 5200/XEGS videos would be the same.
Theres only a few games that were release on the XEGS (or Atari 800) that were not on the 5200 but were on the 2600/7800.
Not a big miss - I enjoyed watching the whole thing.

You also might want to wait for the re-release of the Jag Game Drive cart. Things are in limbo as a manufacturing partner is lined up but will make a return. Check out the Jag forum for more details.

To avoid more messages on "whats the status", "has it shipped again", etc.....might I suggest unpiining this thread. Create a new thread called Jag GD Status with 1 message that points to Saints twitter and GameHQ site and then pin it and lock it (allow Saint to update it only).
We can avoid a bunch of where is it msgs - people who havent followed things can easily get to saints latest postings.
Once thing are moving forward we can unlock the status thread for Q&A.
Just my $0.02

1 hour ago, leech said:The original one was black and white. I'm not sure 2 was, as I never really played it, most of it seemed to be. 3 and 4 definitely had color. In fact I remember the colors were absolutely wrong on Ultima 3, with red water, and later found out it was because of some difference between the 800 and 800XL that I had. So if I'd used Translator, it probably would have looked right (now that I have an 800 or two, I should try that again). Ultima IV had the right colors on the 800XL, but now on the 130XE output through RGB it's just black and white.
None of the Ultimas were B&W - from the original Apple version they used color to a degree - Water was def blue and mountains purple. Ult 1 on the 800 doesnt use artifacting but looks stretched as it appears to be a gr 2 or 3 display. U 2, 3, and 4 use artifacting on the 8bit for some color.
There wer some games that were converted to another 3 color mode BITD it appears to provide color to PAL users. I think Drol is in mode 7 or 15?

I always found Atom Smasher to be a pretty good game BITD - easy to get into and fun

1 hour ago, leech said:xu4 is awesome. I don't know why Ultima V doesn't have an engine remake. There have been remakes for Neverwinter Nights, and Dungeon Siege for it, but no one has really made a recreation of the game for modern operating systems. Though, having used a hex editor on it, I can say that it isn't all that different in the data than Ultima IV. I think I mentioned earlier in this thread, that U4 uses straight conversion of numbers for the characters (99 = 99 for say Strength). But Ultima V they tried to get clever and used Hex values (so 63 = 99 in game.) but otherwise, I think the maps were all the same, 00 deep sea, 01 shallow sea... I think 03 was grass.
A zeroed sector could be easily spotted, as it was just deep water. I may have to pull out the dos version and a hex editor and check that out. Kind of wonder if it was just U4 on the Atari 8bit that didn't use hex conversion...
Heres some work I did with Ultima 3 on the A8 - my avatar is actually a new world map I created for the fun of it - actually not fun
I copied the U3 maps to U2 here;

It seems the jag GD cart will be back on track in the near future. I doubt any current owners would let theirs go for less than 3x what they paid for it.
Id get the Jag and wait a few months for stock to return. If you want to start now you could look into a Skunkboard and collect a few of the common carts for a decent price.

Lets us know your thoughts on the Falcon. The 1040 STE will be more compatible with ST software than the Falcon, but the Falcon was the last and fastest of the ST breed.
Curious how much it set you back?

So I originally reached out to Best who had the cable for $17.95. I was told the min order was $20 and after not finding anything I decided to order the catalog since not everything is listed for $7. I was then told the catalog didnt count towards the min purchase price.
I contacted Bruce who was happy to sell me the cable for $16.95 through PayPal with no min.
Im not trying to bad mouth Best as they responded quickly and such, just the $20 min and not listing everything on the website made this a bit of a PIA.
Bruce was great and will be my goto in the future. Unfort his ST hardware page is down due to a computer crash losing his list.

Also the Hyperkin Ranger joystick is not a good fit for the fast pace of this game - had to get my CX40 out!
