Nice work - looks great! I like this release, back when it came out it was a good conversion. If the enhanced car graphics from Mr. Fish ever sees the light of day that would be incredible.

Finally got my Jag out to test the new controllers with my original Pro. Very similar between the 2. Fire buttons seem identical to me. Shoulder buttons I like the click on the new one. The original Pro had a slight click, but the new one feels a bit more responsive.
The grey keypad buttons are more spongy than the original. I didnt notice any real difference in using them, but the original are a bit more firm to the touch (though they are soft buttons).
The D-pads were pretty similar. I like the new D-pad a bit better. Feels a bit more responsive - hard to put into words.
Both my connectors worked fine first try - no bent pins.
Great job!

Damn - that looks great. I was happy with the original PP release on the 8bit, but if the above could've been done then what a pity it didnt look that good.
Would love to see this running on the real thing to see how well it performs.

Mine just arrived - I wont be able to test until after the Holiday but upon first inspection they feel nice. The shoulder buttons click is an improvement IMHO. D-Pad feels tighter and the keypad to me is more responsive. The fire buttons feel the same which is not a problem.
Only 2 things could make these better - add a spinner and thumb stick

Great job on these!

What's the agreement with Video 61? Can Fandal put up the ROM for digital downloads? I'd buy it for $10-$15 bucks.
My understanding is he signed over all rights to V61 so they could distribute the cart to the community. V61 owns the rights at this point and Fandal gets a small %% of the cart cost.
-
I dont think Fandal has gotten even 20% back from what he spent to make this available to the community.
Font change looks nice - I have a cart and cant dump it so unfort I cant take advantage.

I don't have time to look, how much more does the Spectre GCR fetch? That's the desirable one!
I think I got my Spectre 128 with Roms for $25. That was 6-7 years ago so maybe things have changed. It doesnt seem like these things have appreciated much.
-
Problem with Magic Sac+ is that the original designer left(long story) and created the Spectre 128 which was 1000% better. The Spectre 128 doesnt go for much more than $20 that Ive seen.

I think I'm getting the hang of this forum, there always needs to be a thread where everyone is arguing and shouting at each other, it keeps the bile from spilling into the other more civil threads. Without a good troll post all the other threads get quite snarky.
We're basically a bunch of old men shouting at clouds so we don't keep shouting at the neighbours.
Get off my lawn!

Theres an interesting thread in the 7800 section on Baby Pac Man here:
http://atariage.com/forums/topic/278165-baby-pac-man/
Not sure if the old 8bit could do something similar? Would be a good edition to the catalog and not sure if the work on the 7800 could provide a good jump start to the 8bit.
Just dreaming today.............

You also notice the 8bit Spy Hunter has no enemies - I think that was a bad crack and not 100%

Hi guys.
I just hope you all can forgive me for the on-line 'breakdowns' I've been having. These past few years have been absolutely hell for me, coming to a head recently, and I am actually in therapy now. It is helping somewhat. I didn't realize how low my self-esteem / self-worth has reached, and how the things that you don't even realize affect it.
That being said, I've been in talks with Kurt, and he's done a phenomenal job with the pinball section. He has agreed to revert the source code back to me once he's done so we can a) combine our changes (I've freed up more ROM space) and b) I can try and learn what he's done. He has put quite a few comments in the code so I can follow it, and I will re-read it over and over until I 'get' it. I can then work on the rest of the game (i.e. the pinball 'rules' - earning energizers, etc.)
Once again, I apologize - please bear with me.
Bob
Bob, no apology necessary. This is a hobby that should be fun - you've created alot of fun for alot of people on this forum. We all have bad days, weeks, months. You did the right thing by stepping back and working on yourself. The world wont end if Baby Pac Man on the 7800 never gets to completion so its all good.
Make sure you take care of yourself first - thats the most important game to finish

Is there a reason that Glenn the 5200 man couldn’t of hacked this for the 8-bits years ago?

Cafeman has made a number of improvements to the XE version, so the 5200 one wont cut it

Bonus screen works - just one suggestion, the player really cant jump over the llama - maybe make all the bonus screen enemies monkeys (maybe the bad monkeys captured your girl
) - the jump over the llama just doesnt look good since its so big. -
Pete - looking better. I noticed something in the video that I hope you can explain. around 2:15 the player is capturing animals still inside the bricks - they are clearly behind atleast 1 row of bricks but as the player moves around he is credited with points and the animal disappears. Is that normal behavior?

Looks fantastic!

Pete - Maybe you should have a difficulty option whereby the default would be Medium and the player would start on level 3 or 4 (ie, normal arcade speed). Novice would start at level 1 and Hard maybe level 10. It wouldnt be alot of fun having to go through the first 3 levels of slowness every game. Just my $0.02.

Pete,
A few comments from watching the video:
1. The animals def dont seem to be very aggressive in getting out of the pen. The first 3 levels they dont even get close to breaking out
2. The speed still seems too slow
3. When the animals are out of the pen, it appears all you need to do is jump on them to put them back. that really decreases the difficulty and fast paced nature of the game you are trying to replicate.
4. IN later levels there appear to be artifacts on the right hand side of the screen

We're not that far apart
- I got you by 3 months.-

Right now there is only one screen as shown. I am undecided about a bonus screen / bonus level so my new version has some differences from the original Zoo Keeper. One reason is concerns about companies and organizations investigating copyright infringement. I mentioned the example of Nintendo popping up on scene over the 2600 Princess Rescue. I understand a few other 2600 games could not be sold for profit due to copyright violation, like "Zippy the Porcupine." It just has people like Video 61 concerned. Many companies had folded, went bankrupt, and been acquired by others. It is like walking through a mind find, and people making the 2600 games are finding out the hard way. I do not want to see that start happening over here on the 8-bit or 7800 community, where these system have better graphics.
Zoo Keeper is not the only concept we are doing this to. Klax. Mouse Trap, and Solar Fox concepts for a similar game are on our future list as well. We will be doing this practice going forward as well as doing more original works.
I am working on to make up for anything lacking in other ways, like including some additional animations and sound effects. Change the colors and graphics between each level also.
Pete - Im pretty most would agree that this game needs something beyond the brick screen. You can easily design a bonus screen which is not the same but has the same effect. You are there to save your girl from the animals.
-
I am currently busy making a few changing to help keep the game challenging and avoid any legal issues. I feel I did a really good job at putting this game together. Maybe game my beta testers not much to do, or provide anything for nitpickers to point out the slightest flow. No date has been set on the cartridge yet. Depends on what is found during testing.
Pete - is there only 1 screen as shown, or is there also a bonus screen?
