Atari Jaguar to 5200 Controller Adapter Project
Goochman replied to atariguy1021's topic in Atari 5200
If you're interested in the Jag ProController remake go here for all the details on how to sign up: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/271862-brand-new-atari-jaguar-pro-controllers-interest-check/ -
Its not up to Pete to release a digital download - there are other parties that also have to agree. With the past history its very unlikely a digital download will be provided.

Atari Jaguar to 5200 Controller Adapter Project
Goochman replied to atariguy1021's topic in Atari 5200
Sorry for the late suggestion here - the Jag ProController has 2 shoulder buttons. Those would map nicely to the 2 5200 fire buttons. There is a thread in the Jag forum to get new Procontrollers built for a responsible price - if interested head on over to the Jag forum and sign up. -
Cafeman - I figured you already put alot of thought into the subject! As for the flashing on the original - its not specific to the dot, its how the game engine works. Whenever you have 2 objects (bridge and sword for example) on the screen it will flash. That was the give away for the dot - inside the black castle if you were carrying something and entered the dot screen it would flash telling you there was another object in the room - one you couldnt see I agree that you shouldnt make it obvious - whats the point! Maybe some slight visual clue holding the Chalice would be good (slight, not obvious). That way once the game is finished it would provide a reason to play again to find the dots and a new way to complete the quest!

Cafeman - with the playtesting I did, the only dot I found was the one where you told me which screen to look. In order to make the dot quest interesting I think some sort of clue is warranted - the original gave a clue due to flashing of objects when it appeared you only had 1 on the screen (dot being the second). With the size of the new kingdom I think without some sort of clue it would become tough finding all 3. Since I like to throw out crazy ideas, I add one more to the collection. Once you get the chalice its kinda too late to use the Dots - how to help locate a dot without being obvious......it would be interesting if holding an object that would change color if it was within 1 square radius of a dot (ie, could be current screen or NW, N, NE, E, SE, S, SW or W 1 screen away).

did the jaguar have the ability to be a commercial success?
Goochman replied to LutzfromOz's topic in Atari Jaguar
Atari had a less than 0 chance to be successful. When Sony and Microsoft decided to enter the arena, the checkbook size also went up. Also dont forget about Nintendo. Atari had a 'Chase Freedom Card' budget while the other players had American Express Black cards - try getting to the Lebron James club table with your Chase card..........wont ever ever ever ever happen. Its surprising the number of decent titles Atari did bring out though - Ill give them that for th money spent. -

From wikipedia: The jaguar, a compact and well-muscled animal, is the largest cat in the New World and the largest carnivorous mammal in Central and South America.[28] Size and weight vary considerably: weights are normally in the range of 56–96 kg (124–211 lb). Larger males have been recorded to weigh as much as 158 kg (348 lb)[22][29] (roughly matching a tigress or lioness; however note this animal was weighed with a full stomach).[30] The smallest females have low weights of 36 kg (79 lb).[22] Females are typically 10–20 percent smaller than males. The length, from the nose to the base of the tail, of the cats varies from 1.12 to 1.85 m (3.7 to 6.1 ft). Their tails are the shortest of any big cat, at 45 to 75 cm (18 to 30 in) in length.[22][31] Their legs are also short, considerably shorter when compared to a small tiger or lion in a similar weight range, but are thick and powerful. The jaguar stands 63 to 76 cm (25 to 30 in) tall at the shoulders.[32] Compared to the similarly colored Old World leopard, the jaguar is bigger, heavier and relatively stocky in build.[21]

What are the best platformers for ST?
Goochman replied to Nubian's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I agree on Spherical - I spent alot of hours enjoying that game. -
The 8bit port is prob one of the most faithful ports of the arcade game - not sure how much beefing up you can get unless you required coins to play it and the bonus offered a free game.

How is this even possible on a 2600!

What Atari games have the most satisfying ending to them?
Goochman replied to kiwilove's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Not sure if these are 'endings' or 'cut scenes' but I enjoyed Gumball and Drol 'level ending scenes' which built upon themselves. -
It looks like it was designed for some sort of boss fight - like you could damage him when he lifts his foot, but alas not completed.

Back when Pac Man was released I got to play a disk version that had the intermissions. My memory might be foggy but Im pretty sure I was told it was 14k and the intermissions were trimmed to make it fit on an 8k cart for release. I def played Pac Man on my 800 with intermissions way back but cant tell you anything different about the game as I wasnt a Pac Man fan.

I worked at Sears when they sold the Franklin Apple and IBM knock offs. The IBM knock off's were desktop models, not all in 1's. They were 8088 with 640k of memory (maybe a tad more). They were nothing special and IMHO a rip off since I believe 286's were starting to come out at the time. The Apple models were compact. I thought they were Laser's, but Im pretty sure we sold Franklin Apple compat models also. We didnt sell many Franklin IBM compat due to price/performance/features. They were junk. We sold a few of the Lasers, but not having 100% compat hurt them. I pushed a # of people to get Atari ST's instead at that time from the local Atari dealer.

Favorite Operating Systems of all time?
Goochman replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
OS/2 Warp was actually a good solid OS, but never given the time of day TOS+Neodesk was a good combo also. -
