"Apple-like" games on the Atari 800 etc.
Goochman replied to Britishcar's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Escape from Vulcans Island was programmed by Marc Benioff - who I believe is the same guy who is the CEO of Salesforce now. -

Article series remembering Atari BASIC game programming
Goochman replied to WEBmikey's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I really enjoyed programming in Basic back in the day. It was a very creative time for me even though nothing I built was on a grand scale. I tried a # of different genres - pics attached -

Checkered Flag should be easily available and cheap. There have been numerous threads on CF here in the past - I believe some measuring FPS and such.

Not sure about the rest of you but back in the day I bought this cart and it was 'ok' - I figured it was one of the Activision carts I could earn a patch on so I spent the 2+ hours getting 1M - now back then you have ot remember that taking a picture of a TV was a crap shoot - esp at night. You had 24 precious pictures on a roll that had to pay to be developed so its not like your parents would allow you to take 15 pictures of the screen hoping 1 would come out............. I took 2 pictures and fortunately one came out - the other did not! Ive never played it since.

Ultimate SD Cart run, US source, Nov 30 ship date, 25 in run

Please add me to the wait list if some of the folks decide not to purchase -
Ok I found the problem of creating an ATR - this is the first time Ive run this on Windows 10 and it appears I have to start the Maxflash Studio as "Administrator" in order to create the atr. Doesnt make sense why I need elevated privs to do this but making that 1 change allowed me to create the atr from the bin. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Ok so the cart is 131072 bytes in size. Atarimax Studio tells me right away that it was "unable to load menu rom image file. Access denied"
-
Thanks for the input - I dont think its the correct size.

Folks, Someone asked me to playtest a BIN file which I thought would be no problem since I have a few 8MBit Atarimax carts laying around. Unfort Ive had no luck being able to run this BIN (cart) on my original Ataris and wanted to see if anyone had any ideas on how I can do this. Ive tried the Atarimax Studio to "Convert Bin-Atr" to generate a file to load the cart, but the software is generating an error trying to create a 1mbit or 8mbit image. I have a SIO2PC cable but I dont think that would help me here. I cant post the BIN or share but if someone has some ideas I could try I would appreciate it.

Mark Reid's Getaway! design documents and APX correspondence
Goochman replied to Savetz's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Getaway was one of my favorite games back in the day - I spent hours traversing the city trying to get all the treasure icons. A Map editor would be great - you know Im in for that -
I have a few Atarimax carts - would be happy to test XE if you need me to

Was anyone able to get the peanut from the fastest crusher without dying? I couldnt seem to time it right.

Again in the book that Curt and Marty put together IIRC Tramiel wasnt against video games - he hired Katz to actually run a group around it. There was a disagreement on if the 7800 was part of the Warner transaction and part of that was Tramiel insisting the 7800 bills were not his but Warners.
-
I thought U2 was created by a hobbyist and Origin decided to sell it. IIRC correctly I only paid $10 for it - it was not an official port Im pretty sure. Mouse interface was terrible, its the only version I owned that I never finished.
-
Yes, but U1 on the 8bit didnt use artifacting, it used a low resolution mode (maybe even one of the text graphic modes) - U1 was ugly and buggy - my $0.02
-
U2 works fine with the 800. With the 800XL Atari "shifted" the color clock and hence the artifact colors were swapped so Blue=brownish red and brownish red=blue. I think with U4 and maybe U3 you could tell it which system you had and it would adjust the artifacting to be correct.

I think you can find this in the books. Warner technically fired everyone. Tramiel interviewed many to "re-hire" them to the new Atari Corp.

Mega 60 and 52mb SupraDrive
Goochman replied to Timothy Kline's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Ok - you will need to setup your Ultrasatan with the LCD drivers if that already wasnt obvious. Im pretty sure the Mega 60 needs to be in the chain first and play around with the IDs from there. Good luck! -
Mega 60 and 52mb SupraDrive
Goochman replied to Timothy Kline's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
You can run both at the same time - atleast the Supra drive. I had a 20MB SUpra drive that I wanted to run alongside my UltraSatan. First question is what HD Driver is running on your drives? I had to play around with the logicals IDs and such to find a combo that worked. Unfort that was 5 years ago and I would have to relearn, but I can tell you that it can work if you put the time into it. I think I do remember that my Supra drive had to connect to the DMA port first and UltraSatan second even if the drive IDs didnt reflect that order.
