Internal Atari email about Crystal Castles & Millipede (
Goochman replied to Scott Stilphen's topic in Atari 2600
2 comments: 1. We never have time/money to do it right the first time but we always have time and money to do it over 2. Where is the GCC Milipede Rom? Software dev will never change no matter what - just get faster at what you do -
Jakks Pacific Atari 10-in-1 Game System Review...
Goochman replied to Curt Vendel's topic in Atari 2600
After thinking a bit more Dodge'Em and Haunted House prob would've been better games to put in the packin. Video Pinball perhaps also? Not sure how many 'original' games Atari had which is my theory why Atari couldnt/wouldnt survive. -

Ok my $0.02 here: 1. So, how long until someone figures out how to replace those roms with their own games 2. When looking at the list of games which 'Atari' games would you replace the packins with? Remember you cant include any 3rd party or Activision games unless royalties are paid - Im sure the Defender series went back to Williams - soo which 'Atari' developed games would you add? That 'joystick' 2600 has to generate some ideas for a new awesome portable 2600!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I believe the casssette version doesnt have everything the disk version does???? Dont ask me what though

Time Bandit was cool since it combined a number of different game scenarios into the landscape keeping you on your toes! It was the first ST game I got. I also played Artic Fox alot even though it was a bit slow.

Ive come into possesion an Apple IIe Horizons Traning package thats almost complete (instructions, slides, most cassettes) - Its part 3 of 3 and comes in a binder. Funky stuff but I was wondering if these things are worth anything and what value would it have to me being a novice Apple user?

Well, I finally was able to get my 5200 hooked up to played HH 3D - and I was greeeted with my joystick buttons not working - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Anyhow, I finally got START to work but couldnt light a match - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr So I hooked up my Wico stick and pressing the fire button finally got a match lite. So, in order to test my stick I put Jungle Hunt in and tested my stick again - I was able to jump with both buttons......hmmmmmmmmm...put HH 3D in and again couldnt light a match with the fire button. Any possible reason why this is happening

Well the original 800 PacMan had intermissions but due to cart size they were removed - somehow a disk version of this got out As for Dig Dug - Thank God the 5200 existed since the Original 800 version SUCKED - From a graphics standpoint it was slightly better than the 5200 but it was slow and didnt play right. The 800 one was re-released with the 5200 version which didnt look exactly like the arcade but played like the arcade!
-
Well, besides the 5200 only versions converted you can plug and play an 800XL easier than a 5200 - The XL has alot of cart based games that work with it, many which are excellent 3rd party games that werent converted to the 5200. With the XL and no disk drive you miss out on Space Dungeon, Blue Print and Xevious I think - With the 5200 you miss out on alot of the 800 only carts - Flight Simulator, Donkey Kong, Lode Runner and alot more I dont have off the top of my head

Wow, lots of good stuff there. Just curious anyone know of a company that would handle packing/shipping of this is one were to win?
-
So if someone did have money for these which is better, the Falcon 030 or TT for doing ST stuff?

I for one am open to witness in person any Colecovision attempts made in Hawaii or any other exotic warm location Youre best bet today is to do a good job video taping. I got new CV Q*Bert high score (tape was 3 hrs long sigh......) where this person taped putting the cartidge in, pressing the correct starting skill level and then the game - tough to challenge that kind of video! If you're going for a Top 5 score you better have some proof.

I think the right slot could've been a contender but without Atari doing anything with it may have made developers a little skeptical about it Think about it, the 800 had memory slots and an extra cart port - with a proper upgrade it shouldve been an Apple beater with expandability, instead Atari moved to the closed box world
-
Hes not at the top of alot of Colecovision or Atari 800 games yet Need to pick the right platform!
-
Ill probably get shot here but.................... If you really want to play DK then buy an XE Game System or 800 XL (these have the best footprints) with a disk drive and enjoy all of the 5200 catalog PLUS the 800 catalog! Except the new releases most everything on the 5200 was ported to the 800 thanks to our friend 'Glenn' Just my $0.02
-
Well, a bit more complicated than that - not much though If you have a disk drive most games run without the basic cart in, though there are some that require it so you need to check. All cart based games use the left slot as does Basic so you shouldnt have a conflict when trying to play a cart game. Some cart based games requires 64K (The XE Game System carts) so make sure you get a cart that requires 48K or less since you're using an Atari 800. There are a few rare 'Right Slot' carts which are mainly utilities so you prob wont ever have to worry about that slot.

Ok so where are the pictures of these 'perfect' replica Williams translations!

Can someone compare SainT and Steem in terms of compability/useability? Steem is easy to use and runs most everything I've thrown at it, however if Saint is better and just as easy I may switch.

Its funny it appears when it was opened in Word to be PDF generated the header dates were changed - it appears this was last updated 2 days ago Anyhow, After reading the specs how would this compete with the PS2, Gamebox or Xbox since those would be the consoles Atari would be up against?
-
I think the 5200emu in Atari800Win works pretty good - not to mention you can manage all your 8bit needs in one basket there

I had a brief email conversation with the Donkey Kong creator for the 800 and he mentioned that trying to get the last level of girders on the first screen made everything look squished and he would had to have sacrificed the 'jumping gravity' that he spent so much time perfecting - It really acts almost like the arcade when Mario jumps - Otherwise this is spot on (even the monkey climbing to the top is in the game, but it only shows during the screen cycle for some reason). Though I wonder why the C64 version was able to get all the girders? He also mentioned that the final version is not the one that shipped - When Mario dies the graphics overlap a bit so he looks crunched. That was fixed but the final build didnt go to production for some reason. Oh well

I kinda liked the arcade version of CB and since most of the arcade ports for the 800 were decent I was looking forward to this one - DOH! Watered down colors, crappy control(no it wasnt the 5200 sticks that hurt this one), choppy animation, horrid graphics make it tough to understand where on a ledge you are, etc..... The jump across the river can be maddening sometimes - and the Rhino screen - GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR These kind of 800 ports made the system look like a 2600 in sheeps clothing

I got mine for $49 from a palce I cant remember - it was supposed to be a refurbished unit without packins but I got a new one with everything in it World Tour Racing is the best Jag racing game and I spent alot of time playing that one - I liked HS cart and HS CD is even better. Primal Rage is almost perfect if you like that kind of game also! VLM is cool though Windows Media Player now does some of the same thing - without CD output it kinda stink getting your music from your TV vs stereo but it looks cool I dont have IS2 which is the only CD game I still really want. Myst is as good as any other version If you can get it at an afforable price the go for it.
