  1. Some folks will prob tell you to get the 130XE some the 800XL. I prefer the small footprint to eh 800XL (Though I have my 130XE hooked up here at home ) Things to think about: For cart games the 800XL works well though some carts dont tottaly fit in the slot (a little filing can help out with that). 64K is more than enough for gaming. For disk games and things requiring more than 64K the 130XE is a good choice - It works better with most carts but has a bigger footprint and the keyboard isnt as nice. If I was just going to play cart games and had some space limitations I would get the 800XL
  2. Being a CTF player I have a different view - All the good maps for Q3 have atleast 2 entry/exit points to get to the flag - The flags are in a place where they can be defended but also are setup in such a way that an opponet can get out of there with it. Putting them inside the castles or in the corner of a maze makes it much easier to defend since the entry/exit points are restricted severly (esp in the castles) Putting them on top of the castles is an interesting idea - depends on how one would get up there per say............
  3. Hmmmmmmmmmmm, Flexboy seems to have dissappeared from the conversation...................
  4. Something to remember here is that 60fps is bascially what your TV is pumping out - A film can get away with 24fps since the delivery is on a white screen vs a digital output - Therefore a game playing less than 60fps you can see with slowdown and frame skipping a 3-5 fps game (I like Koronis Rift also) doesnt play aw well as a 60fps- Having said all that, I believe a 30fps game can play well on a TV based set, but under that you get slowdowns and such I actually liked Hover Strike - But I also like Artic Fox on the ST
  5. Count me a another BBSB owner - I also have a Diamond cart as well - Most everything else is common Atari releases
  6. Call it Game 1.5 then with the White Castle
  7. I say create the 'Game 1' map for CTF
  8. I vote for the white/black castles also but we need to remeber to make sure its somewhat easy to get out - putting them inside means coverage of the doors would be easy (as a CTF fan myself) - Maybe the flags outside with ammo inside the castles Just my $0.02
  9. All you really need is a SIO2PC cable which you can get for under $30 - The APE Software is the best/easiest way to hook up images and manage them(SIO2PC is a DOS based utility) I have a SIO2PC cable and it is awesome having a CD with all my fav 8bit games ready to roll!
  10. I had a brief email conversation with the DK developer a long time ago praising how great the game was - He mentioned the work he did to try and get all the girders on the first screen but nothing would look right. He was also proud of the algorithm he used for the 'jumping' to make it appear like gravity was play during the motion and last but not least he mentioned that the released version isnt 100% in the death scene (Mario appear munched) and he fixed it but it missed the production release. DK on the 800 is def the best home conversion during its time.
  11. Count me in as a Play Tester if you want - Esp if your testing out the Deathmatch mode and will be running a server. Im Q3 certified for Fraggin Dragon
  12. Was Atari ever awake on the Jag platform? I dont think so
  13. What Say it aint so! Ok, so I didnt realize the difference between Bitmapped and Char mode - I know they aint Sprites! Ill climb back into my cave now
  14. Donkey Kong was another - An easy way to find out is to load an old version of ST XFormer which didnt have Sprite Collesions on it yet - games that worked were using character mode
  15. Leader Board required a dongle as well (joystick port dongle that is)
  16. Hmmmmmmmmmm, think about a portable 2600 with a smart card reader to input games.........256MB could hold alot of bin's to take on the road - Game Boy Advance what?????????????
  17. As for the Video Tapes being available, watch your local Blockbuster for: "Asteroids: Hours 1-5" to be released along with a gift box set of Sex in the City Season 4 Watching 33 hrs of Asteroids is not my idea of fun!
  18. Fox, Say it aint so - as for being 'Wolfenstienish', I guess most folks didnt realize you couldnt jump, walk stairs and have rising platforms in Wolfenstein - oh almost forget water as well As for the Project- You mention you can only code - Based upon what you have for Vector what skills are required for map making - With Doom there were 'wad' generators to make the maps - is the something a non programmer can use to generate Vector maps? Graphics - What can be used to produce them - MircoPainter(for example) and are there restrictions/limitations around beasts/objects Looking at Numen it appeared alot of the engine was in place, however the following appeared missing: Enemy Movement Enemy Actions(shooing, etc..) Enemy AI I only saw graphics for 3 types of enemy Level Size (You didnt move very far before having to jump into something else) The enemy stuff will cause slowdown Im sure so some of the 'outside' areas which were already slow probably would have to be cut/restricted Are these programming efforts to be done on your part or someone the Project Manager would need to find? What is the development environment? With this info I think a Project Manager would have a better sense of whats ahead of them. BTW- GREAT JOB no matter what happens.

    5200 Jr

The 5100 is exactly what Im talking about! Charm or not, since the 5200 isnt the system that sits under my TV all the time bringing that load out and setting it up on the TV is a pain! The 5200 looks great for an early 80s console (bigger is better), but for today its too much!
  20. Well, post the error line and we'll see what we can tell you
  21. Ok, saw the dot, secret room and your map - No pics of the black maze or red dragon though
  22. The Jag competed with the Sega 32X and 3DO - Trip Hawkins relationships keep 3D) games coming out and Sega had their own - Atari, we'll they only had 1 Jeff Minter and Rebellion......... Atari's dumbest idea was to produce an Infomercial to sell Jags - what kids watched that crap? The death knell was Atari being able to get the Jag into Toys R Us and then most of them being returned after Xmas since the kids told their parents they didnt want a Jag(they didnt know what it was) they wanted System ....... I saw 2 Jag commercials during the day, but no more.
  23. I think you need to post the whole progma - Are you using LOGO or Atari Basic? There is no PILOT command in basic - Mayb eit should be PLOT?
  24. IIRC the 5200 is a quasi 400/800 - It is the 400 memory map rearranged so its not 100% the same as the 400 with the additional 16K cart slot that the 800OS has combined into a single 32K addessable cart space. Think o fit as a Atari 600 - not 600XL I would look for an 800XL as it has the compact case and 64K for more compatibility with more carts. PLus the XL series has much better joysticks than the 5200/600 series
