Barnstorming - Game #1 - 32.04 - What the...?!?!!
Goochman replied to Jeffy Arensmeyer's topic in Atari 2600
Ok here is my $0.02 since I am the Colecovision Referee - No Barnstorming cart on that platform As for scores on Twin Galaxies, if you can prove a score is not legitamite we will look into it. Todd Rogers happens to be one of those people who is rarely questioned due to his past accomplishments (he Proved Activision wrong with the best time on Dragster - their computer simulation said it wasn't possible until he came in and proved it) I saw Todd play Barnstorming last year at CGE and yes there is a strategy he uses to get the best time (on this and other games). I also believe he'll have no issue releasing his tape once contacted. I also dont value of a hacked cart played on an emulator, though I will play it for myself -
Jet Boot - I picked the 800XL simply because it was small enough to drag around and had 64K which was enough for 99% of all 8bit stuff. The 130XE would've gotten the honor except its keyboard stinks. The 130XE's bank switching has to take it for best OS though! XEGS I never liked - Too bulky and the cart port is as bad as the 800XL's My personal fav machines are: 800 and 130XE

Here are my answers which should be considered official (I assume were talking only about machines shipping by Atari) OS: 130XE Keyboard: 1200XL Software Compatibility: 800 w/Translator 130XE Hardware Compatibility: 800XL Styling: 800XL (It has the smallest footprint IMHO) Upgradability: 800XL Best Game Machine: 800XL Best Productivity Machine: 130XE Best Overall: 800XL There they are

JagDoom is a pretty good port but not a 100% the same as the PC. 'Invisible Pig Monsters' (as I call them) are not in the Jag version as well as the 'Rocket Man' at the end. I dont believe all the levels are included and most are simplified to save space on the cart. No save game is implemented, though you can pick what level you want to restart on. Not all the wall textures were ported either I dont believe any 'dark' areas exist in the game(cant remember this one). No in game music Sounds like a crappy port but it isnt - at the time it was the best Doom port out until the PS/Dreamcast versions were released. Due to the slighty changed levels and ability to fire it up quickly on the Jag I would recommend this to a Doom fan, though it is one of the harder carts to find and usually expensive (Mines not for sale )

What about Strawberry Shortcake? All you did was dress the damn doll. Atleast Surround had some strategy in it.

Yes, on the 800 the RCA cable was connected internally vs the later models with an external cable. The DIN connector you saw was for hooking your 8bit up to a monitor. Good luck!
-
AFAIK the 2600, 400, 800, 1200, XEGS, 130XE, 65XE, 800XE, C64, Vic 20 and all the other classics consoles/computers used the same tv/game switch box like the ones Radio Shack sells.

I have a New as in NEW in box Falcon030 for sale
Goochman replied to topaz's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
What kind of monitor does the Falcon support? Can I hook it up to my PC monitor or do I need one of the ST ones -
I think you need to convert youor .msa file into a .st file for your utility to work. Search for msa2st and you should find something to help you.

What mods would you like to see on a "new" 7800?
Goochman replied to Atari 7800.com's topic in Atari 7800
Well, If we used a smartcard/memory stick what application would we use to 'load' it? My Smartmedia Digital Camera will only allow me to load .jpg and .gifs. If we go with this media we'll all have to buy something $$$ that we may not want/need just to write our smart media. A USB cable link would prob be one of the best bets to load stuff from PC I would imagine? -
http://www.atari.st/ These guys now sell a CD Rom with st stuff on it!

What I meant about the 720K vs 360K is that tools I have convert existing ST images to real 3.5 floppies - but all the ST images I have are all 720K so I couldnt get and tools/utilities in the format you desire since the .st and .msa images I ahve to work with are all 720K. Getting STEEM to do something prob is your best bet - Make a 360K image, load a 720K image with a format utility or such and copy to the 360K image. The use one of the DOS utilities to make an ST 360K from your 360K .st file.

Goochman replied to Atari 7800.com's topic in Atari 7800
Actually having S-Video In and Out would prob be helpful so we could chain the 7800 in the rest of our TV components. Have 5200 compat would be great except controllers issue and such would prob require a whole 5200 system be incorporated. Id really like to see the best 2600 system out there which would include 7800 compatibility (Supercharger working, Multicarts working, Cart slot fits everything, works seemlessly with the TV, normal power supply(something we can buy from Radio Shack), etc......) I think that would be the best bang for the buck IMHO. I was going to mention on board Pokey but since the 7800 carts already ahve them I dont see the point (unless for new development where we dont have to scour for Pokey chips) -
I think youre big problem is that inorder to get a copy program to your ST your gonna have to have a 360K formatted disk. All the ST utils I have convert .st or .msa disks to real 3 1/2 inch floppies. I dont ahve any 360K images - none that have a format utility you need on the ST. Most disk utilities I have are all 720K or higher format
-
You'll need 360K disks which its hard to come by.......... If you can boot your ST up and late year formatting utility should have 'MSDOS Boot' capability???? If not, you must have a different kind of PC drive

Glenn was a personal favorite of mine I finally got a good version of Centipede on my Atari 800 thanks to Glenn - not to mention Space Dungeon, Xevious, etc.....

Thou not a big 7800 fan Id like to see the following (for any classic console ) S-Video, def - make life simplier to hookup/play Normal PS - YES labels for the 2600 dif switches (is left A or right A or is left B???) smaller package - 7800 jr ability to read a 3 1/2 floppy with rom files on it or CD True 2600 compat (all carts can fit into slot) There you go! -
Sean indicates on his page that the 2600 multi cart wont work on 7800 systems.
-
You can format 720K MSDOS disks and it will work fine with your ST. To format a disk on the ST that works on the PC requires a special program that puts the correct DOS header on the disk.

One I recently starting playing was H2O - kinda fun. Here goes some off the to pof my head: Dropzone Donkey Kong Drelbs Jumpman Slime (800 only) Any of the Ultima series (if you like RPG) Alternate Reality the City and Dungeon (another RPG) MULE Rescue on Fractulus Ball Blazer Bruce Lee Whistlers Brother Candy Factory Dandy Get Away Salmons Run Miner 2049'er If want more I can list them - hopefully you can get started on these

Funny, folkshated 2600 ET so much I think any ET game must be bad - I actually didnt mind this game and played it a few times on the various skill settings. Maybe it was the voice, Maybe it was the 'maze' look like Get Away, who knows but this one seemed average vs terrible to me.

I stand corrected! I remember playing Castle Hassle and the other program and enjoying them (though some of those puzzles were tough!) Ill have to boot up Journey to the PLanets to refresh my memory!
-
Check out www.twingalaxies.com to find some verified high Tempest 2000 scores (and other Jag games)
-
Yup, that was the other one. When your done with that one Journey to the PLanets is basically the same with new puzzles IIRC
