Im an old timer - couldnt figure out C back in the early 90's.  When my son took a class in C about 5 years ago he needed my help.  I surprised myself by actually figuring it out and like C alot.  However, the pointer mgmt stuff gives me too much of a headache :)

i think it was the contacts, i cleaned them and it worked again and nudging the cartridge sideways caused a similar glitch before i cleaned it a second time, this is definitely an issue stemming from the processor being cut off from the controls, what a fun quirk to the design.

A good q-tip isopropyl alcohol bath followed by a good pencil erasure rub did the trick for me.  My dial was very twitchy and any slight movement of the cart made it worse.  Ive had to repeat the cleaning process a few times and its about 98% perfect now.  Sometimes on Connect 4 it will jump left or right.

  3. This is a game I wanted sooo badly - the premise at the time seemed so cool.  Im pretty sure my next door  neighbor with his ZX81 16k RAM had this and it was fun.  Getting the slow Atari version was such a let down :(  Not sure if the C64 version or another one which is better could be ported?

  4. The Mac had the System and Finder files that were loaded from disk on boot - I assume the 128K rom (64K originally) had the barebones OS and the disk files additional pieces.

    IIRC in the US - 1040ST w/Mono $999, w/color $1199.  First "Megabyte" computer under $1000.

  5. Commando and Beef Drop (RIP Ken) also worked - but my cart connector is flaky.  I was 3 levels into Beef Drop when it locked up on me :( - any reasonable fix for this?  If the cart isnt just right in the slot then it wont load or may lock up while playing.  A slight jiggle and best guess straightening of cart usually fixes it.

  6. ST was big in Europe - esp Germany.  So much so that inventory to the US was restricted so they could give Europe as many machines as they could produce.

Id imagine from 87-89 the STs sold in good numbers, but I dont have anything specific.

ST's were also the choice of many musicians across the globe.

    These are what I got:

    Battlemorph -  615.5 MB

    Hover Strike - 415 MB

    Vid Grid - 732.4 MB

    Blue Lightning - 546.1 MB

Mine are different - you just choose DataCD for CloneCD correct?  Any other settings?

    Battlemorph - 387kb

    Blue Lightening - 1523 kb

    Vid Grid - 2692 kb

  8. So I got Ballblazer to work - got the jazzy music so I assume my Pokey is working?

It seems maybe my cart connector is a little loose?  I moved my cart a tad and was able to get a few things going.

I ran the 7800 Test programs and one said No Pokey or no HSC found - this normal?

  9. I think Last V8 gets a special place in this list - IMHO its #1 by a long shot

I cant think of another game which I was not able to atleast get through some %% and enjoy to a degree.  Of course Shamus I and II I would curse after playing for a long time and not progressing.  Eastern Front and Legionairre also fit into this category, but again frustrations came after long sessions.

Last V8 is 20 seconds of "I cant believe a game with crappy control that penalizes you with never enough time to see the second stage"  rage.

  10. It’s a verified Pokey from Myatari.  I took out and out the okey back in - it’s seated level on the socket so I think it’s good.  BBlazer doesn’t run nor does centipede.  Commando gets to the mission briefing and hangs 1/2 way through.  Crossbow for the 7800 worked fine so it’s better than before.  Any suggestions on a known working pokey rom I can test?

  11. Since my Concerto seemed ot be working good with 7800 ROMs I decided to install my Pokey chip today and now no 7800 ROMs will start.  I attached a picture of what happens when I try to start NTSC Ballblazer from Trebors pack.  Ive also attached pictures of my Pokey installed just to make sure I did something wrong and also the serial # of my 7800 unit.

It def looks like one side of my pokey sits a tad lower than the other, but it will not go in any farther on the one side - maybe the one side is too low?  I didnt not use alot of force to push the pokey in.

Before I take the pokey out and back in and such I wanted to verify things look good and if theres anything else I should test before hand.

  12. After a few extra loops around the USPS block I got my Concerto today - thanks Batari!

I took it for a quick spin using a 4gb SDHC card formatted with FAT32.  No problems

I downloaded Trebors 7800 pack and everything I loaded worked.  I did not try any 2600 games at this point.

It also appears my firmware is 1.0 - Not sure if changes from .95 to 1.0 have been posted?  If so I missed it.

  13. Thanks for this Thread - I installed CloneCD and began to create "Data CD" backups.  Just so Im doing this right, some of the discs are 200k+ but many are <16k.  Battlemorph is a good example where it was 1 session and 9500KB.  That doesnt look right to me?  Hover Strike CD is 235K for comparison.

Am I missing something or are these correct?

Vidgrid is 2700KB and Blue Lightening 37000KB

  14. Fantastic conversion so far - whats frustrating is clearly the 7800 was much more capable than Atari utilized for their commercial releases.  I get the deadlines, etc.., but the colors and graphics on some of the arcade ports are terrible.  This looks and plays very close to the arcade.
