I think Willow is a really fun and good game if you like action-RPG games. -
The HARDEST games for the NES
erotic_suicide replied to eyg2181's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I will say that to me the most difficult game on the NES was always Bayou Billy followed closely by Ghosts and Goblins. I actually got pretty good at Contra, not good enough to beat it on one life but good enough to beat it without the 30 man code. But Bayou Billy and Ghosts and Goblins, those I could almost never make it past the first couple of levels and never came close to beating (except I did beat Ghosts and Goblins by using a warp cheat to go directly to the last boss twice, but that doesn't really count of course). I hate Bayou Billy maybe more than any other game on any system because I was so excited to get it when I was a kid (due to the commercials which I thought were awesome) and then it was sooo unfair, cheap, and terrible in my opinion. Castlevania 1 is pretty dang hard to me, too, but at least it's fun. Ninja Gaiden III is also tremendously hard (even moreso than I and II) because there is supposedly an error in the code in the English version that makes you take more damage from everything than you did in the Japanese version. I don't know if that is true or not but it's what I've heard. The game is super-hard regardless of why it happened, though. -
For me, the problem is that I am not at all mechanically or electronically inclined, in fact I destroy anything that I try to fix, especially when it has small parts. I once tried to disassemble an NES that I bought at a thrift store so I could tighten the pins or push them up or whatever to make it work more reliably. I broke the first little pin-thing and then I couldn't even figure out how to put the thing back together, so I basically ruined it. I did find a garbage pail kids card in there when I took it apart, and that brought back some memories, so it wasn't a total waste. But, I'm just not any good at that kind of stuff, and I never had been, so for me it's a lot easier to just buy a clone. I can deal with what I view as the minor graphical / sound discrepancies that the Yobo has in exchange for it working on the first try with the far majority of my games. And it's relatively cheap, so if it were to break I could buy another one without it being a big deal. If I were the type of person who could easily disassemble, repair, and reassemble an NES, I would probably do that. Unfortunately, though, I'm not.

I had the same thing happen with one I bought at an estate sale. I emailed the guy who runs the biggest O2 website (can't remember his name) and told him what was wrong. He said that it usually means the system is beyond repair But there may be someone else who knows how to fix it, I don't know.

Hi everyone, I have a working Colecovision with the AC adapter, Donkey Kong, and Super Action Controllers (2) that I am willing to trade. I do not have the original controllers, only the Super Action ones. One of them works perfectly, and the other one works but seems jittery, like it needs to be tightened up or something. What I would really like in trade is a working Atari 5200 with at least one working controller (I know this is worth more than a Colecovision, and we can negotiate a cash payment to work out the difference). I would also be willing to trade (or pay the difference) for one / a combination (depending on the game(s)) of the following 2600 games: Montezuma's Revenge Frankenstein's Monster He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Smurf Rescue in Gargamel's Castle River Raid II Snoopy and the Red Baron Spy Hunter Dragonfire Custer's Revenge Double Dragon I also have an Odyssey 2 that DOES NOT WORK, but it does have the original box. When it's turned on, the screen displays a series of equidistant dots in square-shaped patterns. I emailed the guy who runs the biggest O2 fansite (I can't remember his name), and he said that this usually indicated the machine was beyond repair. But if someone wants it for parts or whatever, it's available. I know that I have not been around for very long, and from what I read in one of the topics pinned at the top, some newbies on here have been known to be untrustworthy. Before any transaction is completed, I will give you the following: 1) My real name, address, and phone number, 2) The name of the law school I am currently attending, and 3) In which states I am applying to take the Bar Exam (in Feb. 07). This information will be easy to verify once you have it, and I can assure you, the problems you could cause for me, once armed with it, are not worth trying to rip someone off for retro gaming merchandise. PM me if interested (or, if you have any questions, post them and I will answer) and we can work something out. Thanks!

You're absolutely right! I just looked it up, Michael Hutchence was the INXS singer. Sorry to any R.E.M. fans out there, didn't mean to offend. I knew I had heard that name somewhere.

1. Sir Lancelot (maybe it's weird but it's true, I absolutely LOVE this game) 2. Warlords 3. Pitfall! (I like the second one, too, but it's a bit short IMO) 4. Turmoil 5. H.E.R.O. 6. Solaris (possibly the only game in history with an ending that I will never be talented enough to see, but that I still love to play) 7. Berzerk 8. Montezuma's Revenge (this is the only game on my list that I don't actually own a cart of--if that's not OK, then skip it and count my vote for #11 instead) 9. Moon Patrol 10. Yar's Revenge 11. Realsports Volleyball I only own three homebrews, so I don't know if you want to count my votes, but here goes: 1. Fall Down 2. Go Fish 3. Reindeer Rescue The other two I enjoy the most and will hopefully get for Christmas are: 4. Hunchy II 5. Ladybug

I certainly didn't mean to imply that there weren't other Atari collectors in Alabama (sorry if it came across that way), what I meant was that I don't know if there are very many who would go into a collectibles store and pay what is essentially the Ebay price for uncleaned, dirty cartridges that the guy picked up right across the street for 39 cents (and it appears there aren't as the guy had hundreds of games he had to pull out from behind the counter). I knew there had to be other collectors there so it appears you are one of those who keeps beating me to all the good finds .Like I said, I can't put my finger on exactly what bothers me about what this guy is doing, it just bothers me for some reason (maybe because I think what will happen is he will keep buying up everything and then eventually sell it all online, and as much as I recognize the right of Ebay resellers to do what they do, it still angers me). My nickname: there was a glam rock band in the 80s called 'Erotic Suicide' and I always really liked the name (I never heard any of their music, I just saw the name sometimes in a magazine I used to read). It's usually available on message boards so it's what I usually use. I don't have a problem with it being viewed as a tribute to the INXS guy though (what was his name, is Michael Stipe right?). That was tragic (and, sadly, amusing at the same time).

OK, so I'm in school in Mississippi, and my fiancee is a kindergarten teacher in Alabama. Almost every weekend (for the past year-and-a-half or so), I drive to her place, and the highlight of the drive is a HUGE thrift store that's on the way which occasionally (once out of every 4-5 trips) has 2600 games (for $0.39 each, awesome!). This weekend I found Crystal Castles and Venture, both of which I had always wanted but never wanted to buy off Ebay. Anyways, when I was checking out, the cashier said, "You should check the collectibles place across the street; they have Atari games there." I had seen the place in question before, but it appears to be a comic book place, so I had never stopped there. I went in, and asked the guy, "Do you have any Atari games?" He then pulled out several plastic crates with literally hundreds of games. None of them were rarer than a 6, or at least if there were any they didn't have names I recognized. They all had price tags on them, and almost every game was priced maybe slightly lower than it would typically go for on Ebay (i.e. Pitfall II was $12). So here's the point: Is this good or bad? I can't decide. The owner obviously checks the thrift store across the street fairly often, buys whatever Atari games they have for 39 cents, and checks Ebay to set the prices at which he will sell the games. I know he has a perfect right to do this--it's capitalism, after all--but it really bothers me for some reason. I think the biggest thing is I doubt there's a huge enough demand for Atari games in small-town Alabama that people are always walking in and willing to shell out several dollars for games. Then again, I guess he may be the only person buying them at the thrift store (or would have been until I came along ). Anyways, sorry this post is so long, I was just wondering what other collectors think about this sort of thing.

Question about Yobo Compatibility
erotic_suicide replied to erotic_suicide's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I know it's a NoaC; I've googled but mostly what I find are either people who sell it who say "Works great with all your NES games!!!" which I know isn't true. I know the Generation Nex is a NoaC also, and it has a compatibility list, but I don't want to go by that because I've read it's missing info (it says it will work with Zelda I, which as you pointed out, isn't entirely true). I guess it doesn't really matter for the games I already have, but some of them I want to get (Wizards and Warriors 3, Ninja Gaiden 3) I don't want to pay for without knowing whether it will work. I guess what I'd really like to know is whether there is an emulator I can use to test where if a game works with the emulator, it will work with the Yobo? Thanks for confirming the Mario games and Castlevania 1-2 work, I appreciate it. -
OK, so I have decided to get a Yobo because I'm tired of dealing with my toaster NES, and I'm not at all mechanically inclined (if I open it up to clean it I WILL break it, trust me). Maybe one day I'll be able to get it working right, but until then I'll go with a famiclone. So, what I am wondering is if anyone can tell me whether it will work with the following games (I know it won't be as good of quality, but are they playable/enjoyable): Wizards and Warriors 1-3 River City Ransom Super Mario 1-3 Ninja Gaiden 1-3 Castlevania 1-2 (I know it doesn't work with 3) Zelda 1-2 Also, is there a particular emulator that I can use to check compatibility? An older one that doesn't support the Castlevania 3 mapper like Nester or Nesticle maybe? Thanks! Gabe

I'm pretty sure that the remake of Solaris (the movie) used sound effects from Swordquest Earthworld (specifically, the room where all the waterfalls or whatever are coming down and you have to run through them) towards the end when the ship's breaking up. Maybe I'm just crazy though.
