  1. I've been contemplating about buying a new small HDTV for my room (the TV I have in there now was made in '93!) Would I be able to plug in my Atari 2600 in an HDTV, or do I have to keep the ancient TV I have now to play it?

I have heard some people say their atari's don't work on their hdtv's but I personally only own hdtv's and all of my systems work fine on all of them. They look a little weird in widescreen at first but you will get used to it. As for the tv's that come out after this year I'm not sure if any of them will still have ntsc tuners. We might all have to get a/v mods after that or go thru the vcr.

You mean the HDTV stretches the video, rather than put black bars on the sides?! WTF is that?!

  2. All,

I have lots of Boxed, Wrapped Atari 2600 and 7800 Carts free to anyone who want to pick these up before they get trashed. If you are available to stop by the south Austin, Tx area this Saturday (3/15), let me know.

I also have several things that are not so free, but I want to find a good home for including an Atari 600XL, 800XL, 2600 Jr, 520ST, etc.

If anyone is interested, let me know.

    Thanks,

    Chris

If you find anything else...keep us informed. I can't pick up, but I could make it worth your while to ship.

  3. Please add my name to the "potentially interested parties" list. :)

I've been collecting coins(mostly circulated...I'm not rich) for a long time. Beware of some coin shops, though. Some of them(the ones that look like junk-shops, with crap piled high and hardly anywhere to walk) will barely give you double the face value....if even that. Check your local newspapers, I often see large ads for "We buy coins, bills, jewelry"...and while they are usually at large store locations, chances are you will get a better price.

I have a nice load of silver pieces, mostly quarters and half-dollars. I also have a couple of Morgan Dollars that are in SWEET condition(uncirculated! WOOT!)...but I don't plan on parting with any of mine. ;)

I also have a nice collection of foreign money.

This information couldn't be more wrong. Those people that run ads in the paper will rip you off 100% guaranteed. I'm sure there are plenty of rip-off coin stores too but if you find one that has been in business for awhile they will probably treat you fairly.

I believe you misunderstood what I meant. The ones I am refering to are not "fly-by-night" rip off artists. I see a few reputable dealers doing this in my area. They do it twice a year, usually around the time coin collecting conventions are in town.

Always check the reputation of any dealer you do business with. It's simple common sense.

  4. At least the seller isn't lying:

Here up for bids is a rare "aftermarket" game cartridge made by an Atari enthusiast.

    I read "Homebrew".

It's getting alot of attention, though. I wonder how many were made, and how good the game is.

  6. This is one of those sales that I wish happened 2 months from now....when I have money for more.

I might as well explain the whole thing....since just the SJB doesn't make sense otherwise. I play an online game called Team Fortress Classic. I mainly play on a server called Drippy's 2Fort(D2F). My handle is Iggy(short for Ignorant Florist). A few years back, me and this other guy started a small group of people who played insanely. Meaning, rather unconventionally. We were dubbed, the "Straight Jacket Brigade", cuz everyone thought we were nuts. So, we created th *SJB tag to go with it.

  7. I'm curious, though, whether anyone would have come up with signature-bypass methods if the 7800 had been released earlier and with greater success.

I'd have to think that it would have happened sooner. If for no other reason than for lower budget companies(and fly-by-night companies) to exploit the power of the 7800, without paying for the priviledge. The term "Psuedo-Pirates" would have been coined in there, somewhere. :)

  8. Oddly enough, most forums prefer the revivification of an old thread, rather than the creation of a new one. There should be fixed rules throughout the entire interweb, that all must abide by.

    :D

  9. If you are somewhat competant with a soldering iron, you can probably do the hack yourself. There are several threads around here showing you detailed instructions on how to do it. I was going to attempt to do it myself, but I found out that the only thing wrong with my 2600 was a dead power supply. I found this out by doing the 9-volt battery hack I found on this website. I also did the "LED power light" hack....just because I could. ;)

But, as someone mentioned, you could probably find a real 2600 cheaply enough. Although, I'd recommend getting a 7800 and use your FB2 joysticks on it. There are some fantastic 7800 games out there(Donkey Kong Junior, and Food Fight are my personaly favorites, and I'm going to get a few Homebrews this year, too.) As a bonus, the 7800 also plays most 2600 carts with no problem at all. I have found a few that won't fit into the slot, but they are 3rd party carts.
