  1. I'll install my scanner software later on today, and grab some scans of this varient I picked up an hour or so ago. It has that dual colour lable(text), and includes text not shown on the scans in the RG on here. The end lable is also slightly different from those shown. Also, the item number is different from the ones shown. I'm guessing it is still an R-3, like the others....but I thought I would share what I found.

  2. the games are going to be taken off of the other thread I have asking for the top 10 best games. emulation will also be allowed for any games that you do not have.

I'm interested, but I don't do emulation. :ponder: I'll be happy to play the games I have(I don't really have many, but I can list them...if that'll help).

  3. This is one of the big problems I have with Valve's "Steam" system. Any games you purchase online and download to your computer are tied to your account and you cannot resell them. The games connect to Valve's servers when you play them so if they go away at some point in the future, anything you've purchased is pretty much an electronic paperweight. They've done this with games you physically purchase at the store, also, such as Half-Life 2. You have to register the game online and it has to be authenticated by their server. This ties your physical game to their servers, which prevents you from reselling the game, or hell, even GIVING it to someone else. I will never buy another Steam game for this reason alone (plus, I got burned by not even being able to get HL2 to run properly on my two PCs, so I was out $50 and a game I could not enjoy). This is going to create a mess down the road when people want to play these games in 10 years should the original companies be gone or if their servers are offline or have changed significantly enough where "legacy" games no longer function.

Actually, once you have "activated" the game, you can make back-ups as needed. I do agree with you about the lack of resaleability. That part does suck.

Do you have any idea why HL2 wouldn't work on your PCs? I haven't had any problems with it on either of my newer machines.

  4. I've always loved "Thief" They had one at the small bowling alley down the road from my house back in the 80's, and after school, I would drop tons of quarters in it. I haven't seen one in about 20 years, until I discoved one in one of my insurance client's warehouses. He gave it to me, and after putting $500 into it to get it working, it sits proudly in my gameroom! If you like Pac-Man style games, you should try it.

Did that game have a cassette in it for some of the sound effects? Different voices calling in, "Dispatch!" this and that....

  5. Don't know if this counts, but if you can find one of the newer Ms Pacman/Galaga combo machines, there's a secret code that will let you play regular Pacman. Insert coins, tap the joystick UUU,DDD,LRLRL and you should hear the "bonus life" sound from Pacman. Then start the game. Impress your friends!

NICE! I happen to frequent a bar that has that machine. Gonna really mess with some people's heads now. ;) :D

I just want to take a second and confirm that this DOES WORK! I did it today, and managed to rack up some points. 8^)

Only thing I noticed, was that patterns didn't hold up for very long.

I have to wonder, how you discovered this....and how many more games are unlockable in that machine?

  6. I'm another one of the "Financially challenged", but I had to vote up to $50. I also know the time and effort put into a project, and how difficult it is to break even. I love Boulder Dash, and if this became a liscenced cart....I'd really like to have one. Of course, I have a seasonal job...so right now, I would be hard pressed to come up with the money....this spring, I'd probably be able to afford it.

  7. There is a local store that has Atari carts, sadly, they are cart only. Although, I did pick up an R5, some R4s, and lots of R3s....and haven't paid more than $3 per cart. Some of the lables aren't in pristene condition, but that's ok with me. I actually like to play with them. ;)

If there is something in particular you are looking for, I can check for it next time I go there. Like I said, nothing out of the ordinary...but you never know. They had some games I had never heard of.

  9. I was going through the rarity guide, pulling up all the games I have, and found that I have a Missile Command(2600) that isn't listed. I grant, it's probably not "rare", but for inclusivity, I felt I should mention it. It is identical to this one:

Missile Command Atari Picture - Upper Case end label

Except that most of the text is lower case, including the end label.

Are pictures needed? I can provide if so.

  10. The pricing is not yet known, Albert might know as he is handling all the publishing. The main problem is coming up with 300 cartridge cases.

Yup, that's why I grab them when I can.

    Allan

Now I feel like an idiot for throwing away 3 dead carts a few years ago.

    :x

  11. I have both versions, and play both versions. The voice does improve gameplay, though. I do find it amusing as hell that the 5200 version has a clearer speech than the arcade version. Hehehhe

  12. Q: Will you take $900 for this ? Will you ship to Canada? Dec-08-07

A: Sorry... that is not enough. I purchased this game for $1100.00 last year. I was hoping to get most of my money back. Thanks for your interest and good

That there was the part that got me.

  13. Commodore?

If it is then I hope they ditch microsoft. I remember firing up my old 128, and seeing "Copyright Microsoft" on the screen. It meant nothing then, but now.... I wanted to cry. At least the 64 mode was untainted (and that's where all the games resided)

    Well?

Biggest part is, it has NOTHING to do with Atari, it does however have to do with a video game company that was started back in the early 1980's and is making a comeback is a HUGE way.

    Stay tuned...

    Curt

Might want to look again, the OS in the C= 8-bit line was done by Microsoft. Back then, M$ had a hand in everything. I always thought it was weird, but whatever.

  14. I went in Gamestop yesterday, sorta looking for a SNES system to replace the one my kids heisted. The guy(heh, if a 14 year old can be called a "guy" hehehe) looked at me like I had 4 heads and a hairlip. Apparently anything not newer than 5 years is touchable to them anymore. There are several other Gamestops in the area, but I figured I'd probably get the same reaction at all of them. I ended up going to a place I hadn't been in a while(mainly because they had looked at me the same way a few years back....when Gamestop carried older stuff....), a Video Game Exchange. I had spotted an Arcade Space Invaders machine in there a while back, but didn't have the funds for it. :x Anyhow, they not only had the SNES I was looking for(although $40 was kinda pricy, I figured E-Pay would be about the same), but they had a whole shelf PACKED with Atari 2600 games. I picked up a couple of those, as well. :)

I go back today, picked up a couple of games for my SNES, my N-64, and saw a few games for the 5200, so as I perused them....I found a nice little trophy. Gorf, for the 5200. $2.99 and it was MINE!

  15. You know, bitness *alone*, very much like clock rates, means nothing, really.

We Amiga owners had a lot of fun explaining THAT one to people back in the day, as well. Imagine, a 25 mhz machine that could easily out-perform a 100mhz one..... It didn't work according to their logic, but in reality, worked better than they could comprehend.

  16. I don't know if I can stop at 5...... ;)

Berzerk, Skramble, Missile Command, Stargate(aka Defender II), Donkey Kong, Time Pilot, Super Pac-Man, Gauntlet, and APB.

I know, I know....but I spent SO much money in those games, each was great in it's own right, and I was very good at most of them.
