  1. Common sense says: If it's so rare.....why a BIN price of $.99?
  2. I've never used MAME. I did check out that parts site, and there is some really neat stuff there. I'll keep that in mind for when I start buying parts.
  3. Ok....here it comes. During the spring/summer/fall, I have lots of out-door projects. Lots of gardening, and that kind of thing. I also work long hours in the spring and fall. I've decided on my project for this coming winter. I'm going to build a MAME cabinet. My problem(especially right now, with Rose's deteriorating condition) is that I have no clue where to start. Well, not much of a clue, anyway. I'm not really worried about constructing the cabinet...while I'm not good with power tools, I think I can manage that. The main thing, is exactly how do you set MAME up, attach/assign controls/controllers, and what are the best system requirements for the computer? I've got several older systems around here(Windows 98 and ME for the basic OS). Where can I get the parts that I don't have, and is there a way to get them cheaply? Can a computer monitor(I have many, of many different resolution levels) be used? Is it difficult to change the axis of the display? I have the Paddle Battle cabinet, but I really don't want to do anything to it(I've got another idea for it, but it doesn't require modifying the cabinet, just placing some easily removable parts that don't actually alter the cab), and the cabinet would have to modified to fit a larger controller panel. I'd prefer to just build one from scratch. Since I'll probably be alone and stuck in the house when I'm not at work....I'd like to plan this out now, so that I'll have something to do with myself. I know I won't have a lot of money to play with....so if anyone knows how I can modify any parts I have(particularly joysticks(DB-9 connectors) and the monitor) to work with this, I'd really appreciate the info. Thanks a lot for any and all help/suggestions!
  4. Actually, I *DO* drive an SUV. It sucks too, because I didn't buy it, I inheritted it. I can't sell it, because it needs some work(and is 9 years old) that I can't afford, and can't do myself. I won't get crap for a trade in, and can't afford payments on something else anyway. Unless I can find someone willing to sell me a hybrid for about $100 a month....................I'm screwed.
  5. I remember that.....the owner claimed he raised the prices like that so he wouldn't run out..........
  6. Exactly how does one, "MAME" a cabinet? If I didn't have to actually mod the cabinet....and make everything to fit the existing machine, I wouldn't mind doing it to my Paddle Battle. It would depend on what all needs to be done, though.
  7. I asked a guy at work, semi-jokingly, if he wanted to come over and play Atari. He got this weird look on his face, and asked me if that was some "code" for wanting to have gay sex with him. I laughed at that, because he knows I'm straight, and so is he. I told him that no, I was actually serious, and invited him to bring any of his games that he has over. I know he does still have a 2600...but it's missing joysticks. I recommended he go buy a FB2, and use those. I do have a young friend(mid 20's) who gets into playing on it...he sucks at most of those old games. It's funny watching a "button masher" trying to adjust to a single button stick.
  8. More like I can't float buying ANYTHING these days....that last lot I won was even a little beyond my means....but I did it anyway. But yeah.....that's about the stone-straight skinny of it.
  9. I should report you to e-bay.... Imagine it......finally being able to get back at the IRS by reporting the Taxman for a change.
  10. I wouldn't mind getting that lot....but on top of the cost of the units, it'll cost about $65 to ship it(I contacted the seller, he was quite informative.) 3 boxes weighing 30-45 lbs each..... My mailman/UPS/FedEx guy would SHIT.
  11. Partially, so you won't waste money on a new power supply, if it's the main unit that's bad. The battery hook-up was very easy to do. No modding to the case was needed. This was how I found out it was my PS that was bad. Less than $2.00 in parts, and a few minutes hooking it up...and I found out that my Atari was still alive. At that point, I had no problem buying a new PS. You could also have the unit become a portable, should you have a small portable TV to hook it into. The battery only lasts about 4 hours, but aside from just having your games available...it'll freak out anyone that doesn't know it could be done.
  12. Hey, CPUWIZ, good idea here! Nice work on the site, as well. I do have a product concept for ya....it's something that I gave a half-hearted attempt at before my fiance' was listed as terminal. PM me if you're interested. I'm sure we could work out a deal.
  13. I don't know about Berzerk, but all of the games I have experience with have a switch on the coin door that will allow the game to work with it open. You simply pull the little knob out, and the game powers back up. At this point, put a quarter in the coin slot, and look for a small trip at the bottom that registers the credits. Just flick this as often as you like.
  14. That's cool. I just uploaded them to our(mine and Rose's) personal site, so they will be up there for a while. I appreciate the info on the POT, and I'll be looking into it as soon as I can. Rose's family(mother and brother) will be coming over from Germany, probably the end of next week. So I'll be pretty busy around here making things ready for their visit. I may have a chance while they are here, but I can't guarentee it. In any case, those pics will be available to you for quite a while. Feel free to resize them as needed. I can provide pics of the insides of the cabinets, if you need them. I just can't swear as to when I'll be able to post them. I'm more than happy to take any pics you need of what I have, like I said though, I can't promice speed on them. Also, please provide me a web address, so that I can check the site out when I have the time. I'll be more than happy to provide the stories about those particular machines, time permitting, of course.
  15. I've got one of those. If anyone's interested, I'll sell mine for $50, and ship it free.
  16. I guess I'm a bit looser of a collector, than most people. I mostly want games I can play, and enjoy. I was watching a "stargate" auction, and considered getting it....but I'm not sure it's something I would get any use out of(plus, I'm low on cash). The last cart I won on e-bay, was Carnival(which I posted about)...and I absolutely love the game, even though it doesn't have the "bonus" levels. I'm going to try out all of the games, first to make sure they work, and secondly to see if any of the other ones are games I would enjoy. I guess being not only "old school", but kinda on the poor side, makes a difference. I would like to have a massive collection(as many of you do)...but I don't have the financial ability to do so. I'm content to have games I enjoy playing, and get some use out of. I'll let you all know what games don't fly with me, and maybe we can work something out. A game I would love to get my hands on, is "Elevator Action". I almost won this via e-bay earlier this year. I wasn't home when it ended, but such is life. Thanks for the input, all!
  17. It wasn't called an "arcade", per say....it was a combination arcade/pool hall. It was called, "Odyssey Game Center". I pretty much lived there in '82-84. It was owned by my then best friend's parents. I still have a mint-condition t-shirt from the place. I also have pictures that I took of it after it burned down. It's where I got my Lunar Lander and Paddle Battle machines from. I almost got my hands on Stargate, Donkey Kong, and Super Pac-Man.....but they changed their minds about them. The got rid of them a few years ago....which I found out about WAY too late. I wish I had known they were shit-canning them. They looked like hell(they were actually burned badly), but they still worked. Just for the hell of it, I'll mention another place. Across the shopping center from Odyssey, was a pizza shop called "Loppo's". They always had one or two games in there. Among my favorites from there, were Skramble, Time Pilot, Battle Zone, and Rally-X. Obviously, having burned down 22 years ago, Odyssey is no longer there...and I was devastated when the pizza shop changed hands(due to death of the owner). No other pizza place around here has ever come close to the quality they had. *SIGH*
  18. Hard to say it's value. I imagine to someone who's looking for one, it might be a good deal. I have a pretty extensive C= collection, but I don't have one of those. My oldest is the Vic-20.
  19. A front/side angle of Lunar Lander: A somewhat side-pannel shot: Paddle battle: The pot I need replaced: The coin door recently fell off. I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to reattach it. Everything else is how I described it. I tried to get pics of the marquees, but kept getting flash glare on the pics. Sorry I took so long. But I've been walking in front of the fan that the crap keeps hitting.
  20. Wizard of Wor was the one that caught my eye. Dig Dug is another one I wanted. I want to give Demons to Diamonds and Journey Escape a try, also. That leaves a bunch of commons left over, but someone might want/need them.
  21. I just won it. 23 carts, a couple of doubles. There are a couple of titles in there I want, and I'll probably resell the rest. Pretty common ones, so nothing special. I'm only wanting games I'll get some use out of. If I break even(pro-rated for the ones I'm keeping), I'll be happy. In any case, for less than $1 a game, I'd say it was decent.
  22. The "driving" controllers with the Indy 500 game.....standard paddles, correct? Or if not, are they compatable?
