Damn, that was quick. Put me down for one, if you go past #20.

Yeah, and the crap just keeps hitting the fan around here. She spent the past 2 days in the hospital, and I got pretty much nothing done around here. A nice 4 1/2 day weekend, shot to hell. Ah well. I've still got today, and barring any major problems, I'll get those pics to ya.

The Atari Flashback 3 Petition
[d2f]Iggy*SJB replied to gamer1682's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
If the stock isn't listed, where can you buy it at? -
I found it at K-Mart for $20. Given the cost of gas, it would have been just slightly cheaper to run all the way out to Target, but not worth the time to do so. I'm happy with the games, they are all pretty decent to play. I love the high score's being kept, and the pause-ability. The stick is a little noisy, though. I'm thinking of putting a drop of 3in1 down it, but I'm not sure that's a good idea. The last time I played Super Pac-Man, was on my Commodore 64(the real computer)...but the disk is getting quite old, and I haven't tested it in years. I think it plays a little faster than the home computer version, but it's not that big of a problem, I'll just have to adjust. Pac-Man Plus was a wild ride, as it plays very fast and had features I've never seen before(the disappearing ghosts and maze), and I'm finding it a thrill to play, because it's much more difficult than regular Pac-Man. Pac N Pal was a real treat, though. I actually had to read the instructions to figure this one out. Quite an interesting experience playing that one. Overall, I'd give it 4 out 5 dots. Definitely worth the money, if the stick itself holds out for many hours. Maybe the noisyness will work itself out. If you look at it as $5 per game, it's definitely a decent price. I'm not sweating the game key issue, as per my previous post. If they come out with a game-key version, that comes with some neat keys...I'll consider buying it. If it just comes key ready....I won't be tossing money out the window. I'm pleased with what I have, and keys are only good IF they actually come out with them.

Just thought I'd post an update. I haven't found a pot yet, and haven't had time to look for one for the past few months. My wife has been dealing with a recurrance of Ovarian cancer for the past 2 years, she was diagnosed with it originally in Nov of '03. She was given a complete hystorectomy, and went through a round of Chemo. She was in remission for about 6 months, when it started up again. I've lost count of how many chemo's they've tried on her since then. A little over 2 weeks ago, a fluid build-up was drained from her, and sent to a lab. There, they grew her specific tumor, and hit it with everything they had, to see what might work. Nothing. The cancer has become very agressive, and she's been given only a few months to live. She's been placed on home hospice, and is receiving a steady dose of pain meds intraveinously. Needless to say, she's under my care(with help from the hospice nurses)...and pretty much every project I had going is put on hold. Her name is Rose, and she'll be 44 next month.

Good idea. I used the cheap way at the pool hall I was "working" at back in '83 on a Pole Position machine. Knocked me 5 feet back....probably would have been more than that, had that wall not jumped out and caught me.

I could send you pics of my Lunar Lander and Paddle Battle machines, if they would help.

60,000 Rev C's on the water...
[d2f]Iggy*SJB replied to Curt Vendel's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Not to sidetrack things here.... but Curt, you remind me a lot of Jay Minor, the man who created the Amiga line of computers. He put his home on the line to make that happen. You have been going above and beyond on this project, and I have nothing but respect for ya! Atari would be foolish to not jump on this offer. Thanks for all the time, effort, and commitment you've put into the retro community. You deserve a medal for it! Good luck, and keep letting us know, as you can, how things work out. -
Back to the gamekey issue....does it REALLY matter if it is game-key capable, if they aren't coming out with any game-keys? The only keys I've seen sold separately from the sticks, are "Spongebob-Squarepants" and "Dora The Explorer". I'm not saying they might not be fun for someone....but they just aren't for an old gamer like me.

Trading "tapes" - Old schoolers need only apply
[d2f]Iggy*SJB replied to Curt Vendel's topic in Atari 2600
OMFG!!! Curt, you just opened up Pandora's Box.... Not only did we call them "tapes" back then....and yeah, I woulnd't have minded trading for a weekend with friends....BUT, none of my friends HAD Atari's! Their parents were of the "Anti-Video Game" crowd. I thought they were fascinating, and a possible way into the (then budding) Computer Industry. I did know that our "Silicone Wafer'd friend" was in there, I pretty much knew how they worked. Yeah, I was the biggest nerd in school. As time went on, I got into computing at an early age(for the time)....the tender age of 13. A friend of mine bought a Texas Instruments "touchpad" computer. For the life of me, I can't remember which one, but it cost $99.99 at E.B. My first computer, was a Commodore 64. I remember doing all kinds of stuff on it. To this day, I still have it, and it still works. Much later, I got into the Amiga line, and eventually had to jump to Windoze machines. Anyhow, I still have my Atari 2600, it works again, I also have most game systems from the time period, up to my latest system, the Nintendo 64. I still play them all(when I can), and I couldn't tell you how many hours of enjoyement(even during the darkest of times), these games have given me. I don't need all the bells and whistles on a game...as long as I enjoy them, who cares what kind of graphix they have? -
Probably some grime causing a short, and thus making it fail it's power-on self test.

Maybe in a few years....shipping would be a bitch though. I live in Baltimore, MD. Might be cheaper for ya to rent a "U-Haul". AtariBuff - The S/N(which I believe is on that silver sticker on the back) is: "169XX DD-665" There is actually a story behind how I got it(and the Paddle Battle that sits next to it). Would you believe, looking at those pics, that those machines were in a pool hall that burned down?

I've taken a close look at the POT in question, and I might be able to rig something. I won't be able to afford a replacement for a couple of weeks, and then it'll be finding time to modify it. Without going after more pics, a normal POT should look like this: || ||----- || (sideways view, of course) The Atari one looks like this: || ||----+- || They put a pin through the turnable part, which sits inside the of the throttle mech. I understand the how, but the "why" leaves me kind of befuddled. I guess it doesn't really matter, though...as long as I can figure a way to replicate it with the rather limited tools I have.

Call me a purist, but I think the ONLY remake worthy of being considered a GOOD remake, was the 1990(or 91....can't remember now) of "Night of the Living Dead". That one, while a little different from the original, was very close story-wise. I still enjoy the original, and I do mean the BLACK AND WHITE version, not that rediculous "colorized" version(if you haven't seen it, DON'T!!!!). Dawn of the Dead was a classic! The director's cut even more so, because it actually explained a few things the theatrical version left out. Day of the Dead was also a classic! I refuse to see the remake of Dawn.....because from what I understand, much of the original storyline was changed. The only thing left in was the shopping mall.....IMO the mall wasn't the whole of the story. I don't think I will go see a remake of "Day" either....because they will probably change a bunch of stuff, and quite probably rip out a scene from the original that I absolutely LOVE! At the begining, that one military guy is plucking a marijuana plant. Gotta be PC, and get rid of the drug reference. Bag that....gimme the originals ANY day of the week!

Not yet, but I'm diligently working on a solution. A friend of mine might be able to find a compatable pot that will either work, or that I can modify to work. I'll certainly reply to this thread with updates, pro or con.

A few pics, for anyone interested.

How do I tell which Rev. I'm buying?
[d2f]Iggy*SJB replied to rorysl's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I would assume that you could use the cart slot from the JR...I'm not very familiar with them, but the carts are all the same size(otherwise, there would be a sub-set of JR games). The cable from the cart port to the motherboard would probably be best done with a spare ribbon cable. If you don't have a spare(from an old dead computer), you can probably pick one up at the local Radio Shack. Good luck with the project, and post pics when you get it done! -
I didn't make any, 4 people asked for one, so I am making 4 of them for now. Take your time, I can make one whenever. One thing is for sure, this is gonna be a rare cart down the line. Cheers. 1021715[/snapback] Cool deal, I'm making a note about this, and I'll get back to you when I have the cash.
-
How many did you make? I'm interested, but it'll be a couple weeks before I can afford it.
-
Ok...I asked because I saw one of these on eBay a week or two ago. So now we know of 2 of them out there....
-
Did you get that from EBay a week or so ago?
-
Well, I don't have one of those machines....but the best thing I can offer up is to test the power supply, and all relevant connections. You might also want to check and make sure all the wires are in good shape, and are firmly connected to the connectors(use a multi-meter and to a pin-by-pin check). I know it's a lot of work, but that's about all I can think of. Oh, you might also check the PCB, and make sure any/all socketed chips are seated well.

Probably lurked here and found the rarity guide.

Did you notice this: It's in BRITAIN for crying out loud....they DO speak English, right?
