1. WalMart has an adapter that works. It's got 8 different tips, and different voltage settings. It is capable of doing 1300ma(IIRC), but of course, doesn't slam that through...it only puts out what is needed. It ran me about $15, but there isn't much I couldn't use it on, should I need to.
2. Sorry to revive a relatively dead thread......but I really need to toss my $.02 into this... Thanks for the link to that video and website.....the site is kinda neat, but that video was horrid! I have all of the original songs downloaded onto my iPod(except for the instrumental version of PMF)....because I bought it on both Album AND Cassette. I also have the 45 version of PMF(and yes, it has the instrumental version on the B side).... I had read the reviews of the "new" CD....and honestly, I'm disappointed in what I read. I was hoping against all hope that the CD would be a "re-release" of the originals.....alas, it was not to be(and a damned shame it is). No matter what they pull, NOTHING will beat the originals! "Goin' Berzerk" is, IMHO, the best track on the album. I can listen to that repeatedly. "Do The Donkey Kong", only has one sound drop(as I call it, it wasn't a fade out as someone else put it....the sound dropped to near-inaudible levels, then came back up as fast as it dropped)...toward the end. I had thought it was a flaw in my record, until I DL'd the whole album from Grokster. I really enjoy listening to those old songs, and it really blows peoples minds when I play them....most young people have never even heard of them. Oh, and before anyone goes off on a tangent about downloading music that way, I look at it this way: I paid for it once. If someone made a conversion of the original record, and I own a copy of said record....then I am within my rights of copies for personal use. Metallica can kiss my ass.
3. Most modded modern consoles are chipped in order to allow them to play pirated games. It is against federal law to circumvent any form of copy protection on any consumer electronics device. So having, selling, or buying a modded XBox, PS1 or PS2 is breaking federal law. Honestly. Welcome to the land of the free... With the Flashback 2, the system is *designed* by the manufacturer to be modded, and that specific mod does NOT circumvent DMCA laws. Which is what makes it a different case. As for how to word it on eBay... just sell it here. Heh. Really... I suppose you could call it a "Atari Flashback 2 enhanced with Cartridge Port". If I was searching for a modded FB2, I'd search for the term "Hacked", too... being that this is how they're refered to within the community. 1017423 Are you so sure about that? After all, couldn't people make pirated 2600 carts? I mean, granted, the 2600 is over 20 years old, and no new OFFICIAL carts are being manufactured for it.....but we can't be allowing people to pirate out of print games, either! Sorry, just being a "devils advocate asshole" for a minute. I kinda understand the logic there....but I still think it's rather stupid. For example, what is to stop someone from e-bay'ing whatever materials are needed to make such a hack? I'd almost be willing to bet they do. Let me guess....it isn't the parts that are illegal, just the use of them....... I'm not picking on you, I appreciate being informed that this kind of stupidity has even permiated e-bay. How about "Cartidge Enabled" FB2?
4. Oh joy.....specific to the machine......lovely. Thanks for the info!
5. It looks quite easy...if time consuming. Curt posted a link to some pictures that really give a nicely detailed guide to doing it. I believe the thread is sticky'd... Actually, it's inside a sticky'd thread...here's a direct link: Curts hack Good luck, and post pics if you do it.
6. I remember the "dead spot" in the Pac-Man tunnels. If you go through either side for the wrap-a-round, there is a spot(and a fairly large one, actually) that the ghosts will run right past you. Lunar Lander had some interesting "features"...if you could pull it off, you don't have to land on level surfaces. I've landed on nearly sideways pieces of territory. Landing on "Peaks" is also a nifty little trick. Damn shame you don't get any bonus points for doing it.
7. I've had this arcade classic for about 22 years. The cabinet is in very good shape, and it does work. A few of the LEDs are dead, but those should be easy to replace. However, the throttle control sticks very badly(the handle moves freely, but it doesn't register the movements properly). I'm guessing it's a pot in there, I haven't opened it for years. Does anyone know where I can find a parts list online? I don't want to operate on it without the spare part onhand. I have the manual around here somewhere, but I'm not sure where I put it(should have left it in the cabinet)....
8. Well, like I said, it wasn't outrageous, the total cost was a good deal(for something I enjoy playing)....and his service was fast. I have no complaints at all. I also realize that anyone selling something on EBay is looking to make a little money, no problems with that either. I'm happy, he's happy.....everybody's happy.
9. I hope those are the special edition gold plated versions.......
10. Shawn, if I had a way to put it on a cart and play it, I'd say go for it! Sadly, I don't. but if you want to take the idea and run with it, be my guest. I think it's a funny twist on a cool game.
11. He's probably still pissed about not being able to buy the Amiga. Personally, I'd like for anyone BUT Gates to get it.......I can't stand that egocentric SOB!
12. I thought of a cookey idea last night, and thought I'd toss it out there in case anyone is bored and wanted to play around with it..... "Beerzerk" Just a sprite hack/mod, I think.... The robots look like kegs or bottles of beer, and Otto looks like a beer mug. Or maybe the laser beams look like beer mugs...and Otto wears a frown because he's sober.
13. I've done this hack. It's very easy to do, and works very well. It proved, in my case, that my 2600 wasn't dead, the power supply was. I bought a new adapter yesterday, but I'm leaving the battery wire hooked up for future, or even travel use.
14. Anyone who wants will have to bid $200.01 1015399 Do you not want to win? 1015803 Maybe it's a new Ebay strategy? 1015805 Short answer: Beer Long Answer: I just picked up an Atari auction and some rare games, so I no longer need this one, so I don't want to win it. Plus I have no more room, I need to get a bigger room of Doom 1015813 Dude, if you won the Atari 7800 lot with 63 games + controllers......you had BETTER PM me........
15. It does seem kind of odd....but the best explaination I could come up with, is that he has family there, who have the ability to relay the items to him at a lesser cost. Seems a little radical for 2 locations this close, but I was thinking about having some European items shipped to my fiance's brother(in Germany), so he could hold onto them until we get back over there. Europe to Europe shipping is much cheaper than Europe to US rates.
16. Well, it was shipped from New York to Maryland.....not all that far away(realistially speaking). Only about 4-5 hours drive, by car. I'd say the time frame was good, but normal. Most letters put through the USPS get to their destination in 3 days, within state. I'm sorry to hear about the postal service in Canada.....but at least you have Universal Healthcare. Something the US will probably never have.
17. Just an update.....the cart arrived today, and is exactly as shown and described. I left him positive feedback...it arrived in 4 days(I'm not counting Sunday...ain't much open). The shipping charge was a little higher than actual....but to be honest about it, I still feel like I got a good deal. I'm happy with the game, and although it didn't come with instructions, I'll be printing them out from here.
18. I got my 2600 brand new, and went through dozens of joysticks(both Atari, and 3rd party ones). Then again, the DB-9 plug made them usable on most systems at the time(especially the C=64, my first real computer)...the games never got old, really. The fact that I still play them now is a testament to that fact. I bought my first 5200 at a computer show here in Baltimore...it didn't work, but I only paid $5 for it and a boatload of games. I happened to run across another one, with 3 or 4 carts, again for $5.....this one worked. Turned out that out of all the games I had, only 1 cart was dead(yeah, I did everything I could to revive it...it was just plain dead). All in all, these systems(along with all of my Commodore/Amiga computers) have provided me with much more enjoyment over the years than they cost. It's sad to say, that my newer computers may be faster, and provide a more realistic gameplay....but they simply won't last as long as those "ancient" consoles.
19. Actually, those were from the red ones.....I thought the green were the same, but they aren't. 2.1V, 25mA, 6.3mcd are the green ones. I didn't know there was a difference...but I think knowing that, that I will put one of the green ones in. I bought them just in case I decided to put the "expert" mod in later. May not be as bright, but it'll draw less power.
20. Ok...sorry I took so long to get back to ya. Of course, Radio Shack sells them in pairs, and I bought a set of red and a set of green. They are 2.6VDC, 28mA, 10mcd(no clue what the last of that means)... If you think a 1/4 watt resistor will work, I'll pick one up and wire it in the output line(I'm guessing this is where it goes?) I'm guessing, so correct me if I'm wrong, but it can go anywhere in the line(before the LED, of course)...or would it be best to just splice it early in the wire from the 7805? Thanks much for the help!
21. No, I didn't. It's been, oh, 15 years since my last electronic's class, and I haven't really kept up with it. I do my own repairs and whatnot.....but not really much with hacking hardware. I did unsolder one of the wires from the LED, and it worked for a minute or two....thent he battery crapped out. The one we got from "Good Stuff Cheap" didn't work at all. I think I'm going to just buy a new power supply....even on sale Duracell's are $6 for a pair(that's roughly 8 hours worth of playtime)....I'm sure the PS will probably run about the same, and last much longer. Oh, I only used the 18guage because I had just bought it, and don't really have anything else I can use. As for the resister.....what kind would work? I'm sure I can find one at Radio Shack. Thanks!
22. I did look at that...but I figured for $.99, and I actually want it to play, rather than just an "addition".....under $6 for a game I'm going to use, rather than just look at, was worth it. I did research it here, first. Just to see how good the graphix were. It looks good(very close to the arcade version)...if it lives up to what I'm thinking, I'll be happy. Thanks for the tip though.
