  1. I'm looking for white Coleco Atari 2600 cartridge shells. I'm looking for shells in good condition, without scratches or stains, and not horribly dirty. If you can help out, please send me a PM. I know you have 20 copies of Donkey Kong that you can't play all at once, so now's your chance to unload them for a good cause! I can't tell you what the good cause is just yet, but feel free to speculate all you want. :D

    I'll pay cash 50 cents each or 75 cents in store credit, plus shipping costs to get them to me. If you have picture/text label 2600 carts you'd like to send in as well (for 50 cents store credit each) and/or 5200 common carts ($1.50 store credit) I'm also looking for those.

    Thanks,

    ..Al

    Al, would you prefer a pic of the carts I have before shipping them, just to be sure they are acceptable? I have 2 Coleco carts, and 15 regular carts that I can send in... but I don't want to if they won't be of use to you.

  2. As some of you know, I had an original Commodore 64 which I have missed after it broke.

    Well, I really didnt feel like buying another for the price people demand.

    Anyways, yesterday around noon a friend showed up at my house with a box of things he no longer wanted, and in that box to my amazement was a very good condition "Commodore 64 Direct-to-TV" unit which is basically like Commodores version of the Atari Flashback 2. C64DTV is very easily modified since its not a clone but instead an actual Commodore 64 all built into a Pro 5000 controller.

    Possible mods for C64DTV:

    * port for the floppy disk drive

    * second controller port

    * port for a ps/2 keyboard

    * VGA output

    * external dongle for cartridges

    Anyways, I absolutely love the C64DTV; I would recommend it to anyone whom wants to have instant gameplay of 30 classic games. It shows the real Commodore computer text entering screen and is preprogrammed to enter the code for gameplay.

    But when you hit all 4 lower buttons with the reset you enter a screen which will allow for your own coding.

    Just out of curosity, what price are people demanding? I have several units I'd part with, and not demand your children. :D

  3. I ordered Beef Drop VE a few years from AA and it was one of the best transactions ever. Thank you for giving us 7800 fans wonderful products!

    I agree... Beef Drop is one of the best games out there! Quite difficult, but damned fun!

    Can you detail this cheat? I've never heard of it before.

    I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Galaga. I never was. I'm not saying it's a bad game, and I have come to like it more in the past few years than I ever did in my youth. I just had more fun with games like: Gorf, Battlezone, Scramble(one of my alltime favs!), Time Pilot, Berzerk, Super Pac-Man, and a bunch of others.

    Actually, I do the cheat on Level 1. It involves letting all the aliens formate without shooting them. Then destroy them all EXCEPT the bottom 2 bees in the far left column. Then you let them fly around for 15 minutes or so, avoiding their shots. Careful, the shots can warp through one side of the screen to the other, so make note of this. Eventually the bees will no longer shoot at you. When they make a pass 3 times or so without shooting, kill them. From now on no enemies will shoot at you.

    Wow! I'm going to try that on the PnP stick and see if it works. If not, then it'll be off to find a machine to do it on. Thank you!

  5. You know, part of the reason we collect, is to "show off" a bit. Not in the "nyah nyah, I have it and you don't!" way, but in the "hey, check this out... isn't it cool?" way. I was quite surprised at alot of the BS posts in this thread. I'm fairly disappointed in you guys. No one is looking for someone to be jealous of, and anyone who REALLY thinks someone on this forum will break into their house to steal a R-8/9/10 needs to lay off the drugs.

    Take some pride in your collections, and show off a little. If you want to be secretive, then just don't post.... there's no reason to be a douche about it. :roll:

    Of my rarities, I think Crazy Climber has to be my favorite. It's an 8, and while I do have one 9(Swordquest:Waterworld), I prefer playability above just "I gotta have it". I may end up selling that Waterworld, in the near future... but you ain't getting my CC. :P

    Also, we should allow Homebrews to be included. Not repros, or even hacks(where the name and visuals are changed)... but something coded from scratch should be included.

  6. Myself and a mate used the Level 4 cheat to stop the enemies shooting, then played through the whole game.

    The Level 256 crash is a bug, from memory the machine says "STAGE 0", then crashes and goes to the powerup self-test sequence.

    Probably takes a good 80 minutes or more to get that far... but you could get huge variation depending on if you're just playing to quickly get through, or trying to maximise your score.

    Can you detail this cheat? I've never heard of it before.

  7. Here's today's update.

    - Ball added

    - Ball collision with Vaus detection exists-- failure loses ball and you must press reset

    - Ball speeds up over time

    Not yet added:

    - collisions with blocks

    - multiple lives

    - collision with the vaus at different locations changing vector of hit

    This is the first "playable" version, although there isn't much gameplay.

    Pretty much it's empty breakout without a paddle-- count how many times in a row you can hit the ball without pressing reset.

    But, this should show a good proof-of-concept for the ball routine I've coded up.

    Enjoy!

    -John

    P.S. Thanks to all those who have offered to send me extra hardware for this project-- I appreciate it, and may take one of you up on it a bit later. Right now, I want to get a little bit more gameplay finished first, and then I'll consider diving in. But, definitely many thanks for your generous offers. :) It's fun to keep being reminded of why this community rocks!

    Hey, you just remember, YOU are part of why this community rocks! Because you are willing to put the time and effort into making a game the rest of us will enjoy!!

  8.

    Perhaps if the fb3 project is revived, perhaps curt and whoever is working the project with him might consider something like a gpx2 or dingoo a320 but only covering all the atari gaming and computing platforms (i.e an all in one atari hardware emulator)

    A 2600/5200/7800 box with a(non user accessible)SD card would be neat.

    If it's not user accessible, how would you add games to it? USB cable?

    I think the ability to add your choice of games(via service like iTunes) would be fantastic, since it would allow people to buy the games they want. Of course, a small group of built in "stock" games would be appropriate.

    Curt, can you give us any clue as to what kinds of games we can look forward to? I mean, any chance of some kick-ass Activision, or other 3rd party games?

  9. That has to be shady business on Atari's part if they really did sue Sega. Commodore 64 used a similar pinout to the Atari 2600 as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Sega Master System and Amiga, among others, also did.

    Not similar pinout, identical. From the Vic-20(possibly even the PET line), C=64, all other C= 8-bit models, and every Amiga computer had the same ports as the Atari 2600. I don't know if they liscensed the technology, or not... but they all can use the same sticks.

  10. That gives me an idea.....

    I have the glass marquee from an old pinball/video game shooter called "Rapid Fire".... I actually searched all over KLOV to find that name, I couldn't remember it.

    I originally had the entire upper portion of the cabinet, but it was heavily damaged in the fire that killed my favorite spot. :'( I saved the glass, although I believe I had to tape a portion of the picture down. I now need to locate that thing, and do what you did. That's awesome! Thanks for that idea!!

  11. These newer games are such a hassle to play. To many buttons needed to do one simple action. Maybe I'm getting old but I'm going to stick with my 2600 over my PS3.

    That's part of it. I also think that the games have a lower level of replayability these days. I still play games on my N64, and my SNES(my two newest/youngest) consoles, but I still get a thrill when I fire up my Atari's. :lust:
