  Sounds like the work of the "maker community." I've seen some of their meetings, and most of it seems to be about taking some sort of tech and stuffing it inside something else that is completely unrelated, usually destroying the "something else" in the process (making clocks out of hard drive platters, mounting Raspberry Pi boards inside football helmets, etc). Not my thing.
