I love watching wannabe urban cowboys try to maneuver their over-sized pickups in parking lots! Fact is: Americans are driving bigger vehicles, yet stores and companies are trying to cram more parking spaces into the same area. So, each time the lines are repainted the spaces get a bit narrower along with the aisles in between.

I don't drive super large vehicles, but I have noticed the worthless parking lot trend you describe. It's also a byproduct of the obligatory strip mall being crammed into spaces nobody asked for them to be. What's going on retail and restaurant wise is all very odd. Mall owners are compounding the situation by driving businesses away from them too.
