^^ I agree about the Star Wars "Expanded Universe" stuff, which reads like a really crappy Space Silmarillion.  Nothing there worth mining for stories, although Disney's own Star Wars stories haven't been that great either (at least in the movies).  Star Trek has had similar problems telling good stories in the last ~10 years, but it has better ancillary material to draw from; in retrospect, they should have just adapted some of the better Star Trek novels.  Unfortunately, in terms of their influence and relevance, I think both franchises are just about dead.

@Flojomojo  If I was born 20 years before you that would make you 8 years old... and I'm pretty sure you aren't. I'm 28, born in 1990...

@jaybird3rd I took a long break from Star Trek and have yet to watch some of TNG and most of DS9 and Voyager. I wonder how that colors one's view of the franchise? 

@GoldLeader Star Wars borrowed heavily from Flash Gordon and WWII movies (I gotta watch The Dam Busters someday), and the big clone fights are supposed to evoke the Vietnam war. I feel like the bomber run in The Last Jedi is also homage to a WWII film, but don't know the genre well enough to say which one. 

Maybe they'll remake some Disney films in anime style next, that always brings out such warm feelings in everyone. ?

A Pizza Hut near me also moved to one of those small areas.  And the lady employee was a real snot.  The pizzas at Kwik Trip (Wisconsin) are becoming a bit better than Pizza Hut's. 

FWIW,  After being Great,  then experiencing a quality drop for a few years, The Godfather's here in town is Excellent once again!  I don't know if this is true nationwide, but if ya got a Godfather's, give it a shot...

Thanks, everyone. I still have my little black cat, Spook, but Calvin was a neat little cat. He was a good lap and shoulder cat and also liked to snuggle with my mom at night in bed. (My allergies kept him from my bedroom.) Spook was always at odds with Calvin, but the past few weeks he made up with Calvin, which might have been an indicator there was much more wrong than we initially thought.

My grandma used to say Nanu Nanu to me during our saying goodnight routine when I was a little kid.

He will be missed.

I'll have to catch a show or movie with him in it later to honor his passing. Was just thinking of Toys the other day. I actually got to see a few episodes of Mork and Mindy when I was very little and that stayed with me.

It's a pity, but the range that they (and the big boxes) stocked has really dwindled over the years to the point where there wasn't much of a point in going. At least the surviving independents (Playmatters, Land of Make Believe, Sir Troy's) are wonderful if you're looking for non-franchise (or minor franchise) stuff, European-type board games, or construction toys.

We really didn't want to upgrade from 7 here, but found out Verizon was shutting down our current Jetpack (Only way to get internet for us) and the new one would not work with Mom's computer as it had a slightly older wireless card. Also, the monitor on my HP laptop was getting flaky and for some reason the computer was suddenly like a furnace all the time. You could cook with the air coming out the cooling vents!

Older computers start running hot when the CPU has to use hundreds of old instructions to "make up" for those high-level languages that are geared toward new CPUs that have new instruction sets which do the job in less cycles. Fucking java shit and overbloated APIs.

That explains a few things for sure. Got to the point where I had to be careful on certain sites or it would shut down from getting too hot, yet airflow was fine.

I am both glad for you & annoyed that I have more competition for the next Video Whizball to turn up for sale.

Oh I know all about the football thing, living less than a half hour drive from the Hall of Fame. It's not the games I mind so much as the seemingly endless pre and post-game shows. They can stretch any game out to last almost all day!

Don't use RF. The Vic-20 has the DIN for video/audio. I'd get (or make) a cable for that...

They are easy to make. Just open up the rectangular box in the middle of your RF cable. Clip the wires and solder them to RCA connectors. Note the labels on the board before clipping.

Well, the system *did* last until 1983 under Zircon, but only six new carts came out in the 3 or 4 years since they took over. It might have been more popular if it simply had more games, even as a niche platform. (By then we also had the Atari, Odyssey 2, Bally, MP1000, and Intellivision just came out...doesn't leave much room for the Channel F.)

Of those systems, the Odyssey 2 is definitely the oddity. In spite of its limitations, it sold ok and several games were made in spite of Magnavox's occasional blunders. That's why I think that if Fairchild had tried harder and listened to the market, the Fairchild could have done at least as well.

I think at that point it has to do with the "shareholders" more than anything. "But Bob, who's looking out for our shareholders!??"

Nope. Guy was putting those on CL and eBay when he saw my want ad and contacted me. An hour and half drive later and I owned them.

Nice! On eBay, you'd have to pay a minimum of $12-15 per cart, since they pretty much only ever come up individually. $20+ for "A-list" carts like Poltergeist, Dragonfire, or Daggorath. When lots come up, there's a feeding frenzy for them.

Providing the weather was cooperative, that could have been a pretty nice drive, too!

I got the whole lot, computer and all for $175. No controllers, but I got the RF cord with one of those straight to coax adaptors with it. Everything seems to work so far.

Ho hum deals to me. There was an okay Switch bundle for those that don't have one. I could use a USB-C dock, but everything they had up... too many 1-2 star reviews.

If you need a tablet, the Kindle Fire HD 8 at 50 bucks is a great deal or 30 for the Fire 7 though it's screen is not good. Good for kids though since they're rough on them anyway.

I tried to watch some Marvel films, but like others here, I've found I have different movie interests as I've grown older. I am a happy Disney shareholder, though, and think the company's acquisition strategy will add value over time. Next up I see Sony Pictures perhaps being acquired (for the "Spider-Man" license).

I'd probably still be going to the movies if our local theater here wasn't retarded...No ramps for my disabled friend and they insist we sit right next to each other even if there's only 6 people in the place.

@AAA177 seems like they're OK with the Spider-Man licensing deal for now.

Maybe it's cos I live with an 11yo girl, but I like Disney's output since they gobbled up Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars. Quality is good and there aren't a zillion different subscriptions to juggle.

We had simpler tastes back then. If The Phantom Menace had come out back then, we'd have been amazed by the incredibly well thought-out storyline and dialogue.

One little nitpick with my unit. It seems the plug for the light up marquee is either loose or doesn't plug in all the way as it jiggles a lot. Not a problem when playing, but I noticed if I move the unit it sometimes loses contact and I have to go in and wiggle it a bit to get the marquee back on. Might use a mirror later and check for anything down in the socket.

I have one of these. The controller is fast and accurate, and the sound and colors are quite faithful. I with it were just a little bit taller, but I'm happy with my purchase. I always wanted this arcade game, and this is a nice compromise without having to deal with expensive, bulky, unreliable vintage electronics. 

I'm very happy with the purchase.

99% of pickups are owned by people who never use more than 1% of the cargo capacity. I just made that up, but it's probably pretty close to the actual numbers.

At the restaurant I work at, it's narrow diagonal spaces, and lots of big diesel, 4X4, and 4 door trucks...close to each other.

However, I do see plenty of small FWD cars on the road....Ford Focus, Dodge Dart, Chevy Watchamacallit...

Starship 1 was a good game. I had a Kee Games Tank that I donated to another collector since I could never get it to work right.
