East Central Ohio sucks if you like old buildings. One actual historic building I used to pass all the time in Massillon, Ohio bit the dust this past week. The reason? Land owners said it was torn down for 'Possible future development' with no actual stated plans. I should have checked it out when I had the chance.

You might know the building then as it was one of the few old industrial buildings left by Erie Street and route 21. It had housed a Building 9 construction materials for as long as I can remember and they moved to their new Medina location late last November. I don't live overly far from Massillon and pass through it fairly often and have noticed that the land owners and developers are constantly whittling away at the older areas. Bland, modern retail structures have appeared like a slowly growing cancer. The main core is still intact, though one building burnt due to an electrical fire a few or so years back.

I was born there, but my family moved around a lot, so I never got a chance to get a good look at the area. Short visits here and there. For example, in the early 1980s, my mother took us to an old burger place she used to go to. I think the name was Watts, but she said everyone called it Watsies (watt seas).

Looks like it's on to Amazon for the CD I want. The music selection at our stores around here sucks now and I am noticing more and more bare shelves at the Walmarts and Target stores that pushed the little guys out around here.

I've been happily using Discogs for years. Reasonable prices, trusted sellers... they've definitely been my go-to place. You should check them out.

It's a lock! I definitely need to get a copy of Dennis DeYoung's new '26 East Vol.1' album! Now, if I can find anyplace around here that still carries physical copies of music.
-
Is it wrong that I really like Dennis DeYoung's new song: With All Due Respect ? Probably not, I love hearing it on the radio and am probably going to get his new album this week if I can find a copy.

Finally got the valve spring I needed for my 1952, former Air Force tug. It has been a battle trying to get parts for the Chrysler flathead in the thing, even though the one I have was the most produced of the line. Friend helped me get the final part, but the USPS got it stuck out in California for nearly a month!

I used to look forward to the future, now I just dread it.

Went through Downtown for the first time in a while and noticed another one of the old buildings had to be demolished due to an absentee land owner. My old High School is being demolished as well to make a parking lot for the horrid looking new school. We are now averaging roughly one downtown building demolition a year here.

I just found out that Disney is now planning to do a 'live' action/CGI remake of the 1973 Robin Hood film next. 2020 just keeps the misery coming.

Their stock has gone mad! Wish I still had some from when it was $107! Yet...Seems like a fractured company at times to me...On one side, you have Marvel and Star Wars,...but then, This other half rears its ugly head...What next? A CGI Apple Dumpling Gang? Hot Lead and Cold Feet the series? How 'bout a show where Goofy & Pluto team up and "find themselves", call it "Who let the Dogs out?" or maybe, Freaky Friday Again, This time with Dudes?

While some 'experts' claim otherwise, this is really all about easy money for Disney. They take a beloved classic, remake it with a few tweaks to make the foreign markets and such happy, and they can rake in the money with fairly low risk. That's the key. It doesn't have to be great, just okay enough to get those overseas dollars and play on gullible, nostalgic viewers.

Ohioans are so desperate in my region that they are now playing repeats of old Cleveland Indians games on the radio every night! What in the...

Swedish TV spent the last three weekends reliving the soccer WC 1994 (which was held in the USA) by broadcasting the full games. Sports radio has picked up nuggets of old matches in combination with reports from all kinds of lesser covered sports that still are going on in some scale. I think one of the low points was in the end of March when they had live Saturday afternoon coverage of a training game between two teams in division 3 and 4 and even the chairman of the national soccer federation was there to watch.
For a while the betting addicts were so out of games to bet on that everyone in Europe would be betting on training games (!) between division 6 teams, including bribes and threats to players in those teams who have no professional help to deal with it, but after a lot of media coverage most of the betting companies shut down betting on such unqualified games and I think most addicts moved to e-sports or the Belarus football league which for a while was the only one running.

While I love all my early systems, I am definitely becoming a Bally Astrocade fan. Shame it wasn't marketed and supported better by Bally when it came out.
-
Pulled out my Bally Astrocade yesterday and have been playing it to pass some time. Actually have two, but one needs an RF cord. I'm surprised how sharp and colorful the graphics look on my older Toshiba LCD 19 inch. Almost AV output quality!
-
I think the Astrocade was supposed to basically BE an arcade board in a console shell in many ways. One that unfortunately was never designed to be wrapped in an RF shield, but forced to wear a last-minute one anyways due to the new FCC rules at the time. Also doesn't help that Bally got ADD and suddenly lost interest in the gaming side of things barely a year or two later!

After dealing with the 2009 reboot and hearing what I have heard about Discovery and the Picard series, I think Star Trek should have been allowed to pass on quietly after Enterprise wrapped up. We have the memories and the old shows can be seen over and over.

Well, so much for the hopes of an animated Dragon's Lair feature: https://www.cartoonbrew.com/streaming/netflix-is-developing-a-dragons-lair-feature-but-its-a-live-action-film-with-ryan-reynolds-188557.html

We have one confirmed case of the virus in my county now. So, my travels will be limited to back and forth to work and none of my family will be going to the polls on Tuesday. With two older people and my own issues, we are all a bit more at risk from this crap.

I am recovering from my first (And hopefully last!) kidney stone I've ever had. Doing better today, but I'm going to take tomorrow off from work again to get myself back in order.

Our local radio station is just playing its fourth Styx song in a row, which is unusual. Not complaining, but it makes me wonder if there is a reason..
-
I swear, Sundays are horrible days. Nothing on TV to watch and forget the radio here. Ohio has to be one of the most worthless, sports-obsessed states in the union! Been basketball almost all day on the air.
-
After sitting for a year or more, my 1929 Philco 87 console radio is playing once more! Heck, it acted like I had just used it yesterday, which is good for a semi-restored radio with a patched together AC cord.

Got a great Christmas gift yesterday for both me and my dad. The complete boxed set of Red Green on DVD!
-
Scored a Tandy Hungry Monster handheld game for $2.15 (with the tax) at a thrift shop today. Has everything except the instructions and works well!
-
I saw a jumbled, dusty box with a Heavy Sixer and some common games (a few boxed) at an antique store today. Passed on it after seeing the $150 price tag. Looked like they just threw the stuff in the box and forgot it.

In late 1984 a little kid was amazing at the electronics at our local Radio Shack in the mall. He wandered over towards the radios, which were all set to the local radio station. At that moment, Mannheim Steamroller's 'Deck the Halls' came on for the first time and that kid was amazed at what he heard. Yep, I still feel that way about that version.

Looks like there is still selection in toys since Toys R Us is gone. Well, as long as you are buying a Disney owned property that is...
-
Just scored a 1up Star Wars at our local Walmart today! I'll get it put together after I am feeling better from this crap I have. They had two in stock and I stopped on my way around from voting.

One little nitpick with my unit. It seems the plug for the light up marquee is either loose or doesn't plug in all the way as it jiggles a lot. Not a problem when playing, but I noticed if I move the unit it sometimes loses contact and I have to go in and wiggle it a bit to get the marquee back on. Might use a mirror later and check for anything down in the socket.

I have one of these. The controller is fast and accurate, and the sound and colors are quite faithful. I with it were just a little bit taller, but I'm happy with my purchase. I always wanted this arcade game, and this is a nice compromise without having to deal with expensive, bulky, unreliable vintage electronics.
-
It appears that getting the new Star Wars and TMNT machines at Walmart is going to be a pain. It seems they are only getting in one unit at a time at my local stores and they are often sold by the time I get there after checking their site.
-
I don't know if it would do you any good, but maybe talk to their Electronics Dept. or customer service about reserving one; Or see if there's a way to get one from their website...IDK, Wal Mart in general is a PITA these days, but it just seems in this day and age there should be an easy way to do this...
