  1. Why Taito? I would think it would be Namco who would be asking for a piece due to the Galaxians stage, but what ownership does Taito have?
  2. That's good news. I don't have one of these units yet, but my set is ready for when I do. I guess I'll find out then which ROMs work and which ones won't. My biggest concern was whether region coding was going to apply.
  3. This may come across as a stupid question, but am I correct to assume that only US roms will work on the AT unit? I have Sailor Moon, which is a Japan only release, and I could only get it to work on my Retro Freak by setting the system to automatically detect the cartridge's region.

  6. I found a heavy sixer at the local flea market a week ago today! I paid $50 for it, console only. NTSC/PAL/Sears/Special: NTSC Serial # (Ex: #54035V or #007649): 22142 MFG Location (Sunnyvale, Taiwan): Taiwan (Owner/AA Member), (Location= City, State, Country): Kentucky A/B Channel Slot (Yes/No): Yes A/B Channel Switch (Yes/No): Yes Functional (Yes/No): Yes
  7. There is also red, but that's a handful of Donkey Kong cabinets. I looked up Nintendo Vs. cabinets on arcade-museum.com and it showed a blue cabinet for the unisystem model, but the only game I have seen that has orange cabinets is Donkey Kong Jr.
  8. Years ago, I remember seeing a Mini Golf arcade game in a gas station near me. I wasn't able to play it, but I remember watching the demo and seeing the screen with the two missing boys pop up. That was the only time I have ever seen that done in an arcade game, although I have read suggestions that other Bally Sente games, perhaps Gimme A Break being of them, also did this. I always wondered what became of the two boys shows in Mini Golf and recently decided to look into the cases. Downloading and playing set 2 of Mini Golf in MAME, I took a screenshot of that particular screen and took down information on the two boys. Tahj Allen Merriman's fate was easily found. It seems his was a family abduction and he was found safe about July 12, 1985 in Georgia. That was the date the mother was arrested for the abduction according to the Beaver County Times. I haven't been able to find anything on the other boy, though. His name is Steven Phillip Curtis, and according to the screen in the game showing the two boys, he was born March 3, 1977 (thus being 7 or 8 when the game was released), had brown hair and green eyes, and was last seen in Hoquiam, WA 10-81. I'm curious if anyone knows of another other Bally Sente games that posted missing children ads or if anyone is able to find anything out about Steven Phillip Curtis.
  9. While I'm not an expert on value, it looks to have been a Donkey Kong Jr. cabinet originally. It may have been another game, but most Nintendo cabinets are blue, and the only one I have seen that seems to be orange and never blue is Donkey Kong Jr.
  10. I really hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting again directly after my own post, but anyone who is interested in finding answers to this should read this article I found on Twin Galaxies' website. Since it's on their site, I would say it's safe to put stock in the account. It gives a pretty detailed account of Peter Bukowski (that's the spelling they go with), and it further asserts that Jeff Dailey is just a rumor started 6 months after Peter's death, and that the name comes from the Jeffrey Allen Dailey who died in Virginia in May 1981. The article even says that according to the story, which apparently appeared in a short lived magazine called Video Ace, Jeff Dailey died in Virginia on January 12, 1981 (so there is the answer to the question this thread asked). As for the obesity bit, the article on Twin Galaxies' website suggests that it was said about Peter Bukowski due to the fact that his heart was surrounded by a layer of fat thanks to the rare heart condition he had. He was not obese of course. In fact, a coroner's report said that Peter Bukowski was 5'10" tall and weighed 172 lbs when he died. It's very interesting that they had all this information that I never heard prior. I would be pretty skeptical about it if it wasn't for the fact that it's at Twin Galaxies' site. Here's where it gets really freaky - this article goes on to tell about a third Berzerk related death that happened on March 21, 1988, once again in Calumet City, IL, and once again at Friar Tuck's! And once again, the same Berzerk machine that Peter played while he was dying is involved in this incident! Edward Clark Jr., age 17, went to Friar Tuck's on March 21, 1988, and was murdered by Pedro Roberts, age 16, over a quarter that Edward used to play Berzerk that Pedro claimed was his. Pedro was kicked out first, and 10 minutes later Edward and his friends were allowed to leave and advised to go a different way, but they didn't listen. Pedro waited for Edward in an alley around the corner from Friar Tuck's and stabbed him when he came near. You can read the whole article that addresses all 3 deaths here. http://www.twingalaxies.com/article/30/dying-to-play-the-berzerk-death-legends/ I looked into the Edward Clark/Pedro Roberts story, and there is an article in the Chicago Tribune dated March 22, 1988 that mentions the killing, so the Twin Galaxies article's claim that it is a true story has some backing. The Chicago Tribune article even gives the addresses where the two boys lived. Here is a link to that article. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1988-03-22/news/8803020534_1_stabbing-stab-wound-clark
  11. According to the Golden Age Arcade Historian, the Jeffrey Allen Dailey who died in Virginia in May 1981 was in an automobile accident. The obituary from May 30 is quoted as the source of that information. http://allincolorforaquarter.blogspot.com/2013/01/video-game-related-deaths.html
  12. By the way, the seller told me if I ever lose the keys, twistedquarter.com can supply me with new ones. Just in case anyone else encounters that with a Megatouch, I thought I would pass it along.
  13. I got a different machine, but the same model, from someone else and got keys with it. It was likely originally a Megatouch 4, since it has a manufacture date of 11/96, but it has a Megatouch 6 board in it, which is what I was looking for.
  14. I may be getting a Megatouch Video soon. Those were made in either 1994 or 1996, and the model I'm look at doesn't come with a key. You can open the game up in back, but it would be nice to have a key. Does anyone happen to know where I can get one for that particular model?
  15. Yesterday, I received what I believe is a second model Lynx that I bought on ebay. The box was dented in badly, but the system still works except for one strange issue that I'm not sure could have been caused by the mishandling of the postal service. Although the system works, one of the d-pad buttons is active at all times and seems to override every other d-pad button. On games like Klax where you have to turn the system sideways since it uses the screen vertically, the button in question serves as the down button, while it serves as the right button for most other games. I took it apart hoping the pad corresponding to that button had just been mashed in, but no such luck. For right now, I put it back together and am hoping someone out there can help me in getting to what may need to be repaired. At least it's not working any worse than it was before, which is a plus.
  16. Has this been sold? The answer is probably yes, but I thought I'd check anyway.
  17. This game has worked great since I got it last month with one exception - when I plug it up, I am greeted with the error message "SOUND BOARD BOARD TIMEOUT". From what I've read, that requires a chip on the sound board to be either reseated or replaced, which would be simple enough except that I'm not sure of the best way to get to the boards. On the opposite side from the coin door, it looks like that whole side is supposed to open up, as it has hinges on the side, but I'm not certain of the best way to open that side without damaging the cabinet. If anyone has experience with Midway cocktail cabinets, they seem to be pretty much the same, so I would appreciate any help anyone can provide. It seems like it will be easy once I'm able to get to the boards.
  18. Well done! I remember Eugene Jarvis once saying that 1 million was his goal, but you, sir, have graduated to the elite.
  19. Yeah, it does look like Breakout. Possibly Super Breakout. There's very little difference between the two, though.
  20. Yesterday, I got a Budweiser Tapper in great condition, and it's playing great. Something puzzles me, though, and it's a message that pops up when I plug the game in. It does the usual color bar screen once it's plugged in, and then a message pops up that says: SOUND BOARD BOARD TIMEOUT That looks like an error message, but having played Root Beer Tapper as often as I have in arcade compilations, I know what the sounds are supposed to sound like, and I can't determine that there are any sound related problems as I play. Both during gameplay and in the attract mode, the sound works just fine. Does anyone know why this message may be displaying?
  21. I went ahead and went with the company that charged the $854.72 after reading some not so flattering feedback on NAVL. There were the ones here, plus elsewhere, so I decided a few extra hundred wouldn't hurt since I knew they were going to crate the game up. They did palletize the game and they crated it up, and they did do curbside delivery to my house. All things considered, it arrived in great shape, and the previous owner had installed a new monitor before I got the game, as well as a free play button on the coin door.
  22. Okay, sorry about that. I'll try it again. If it doesn't display properly this time, I'll come out in the next post and say the title.
  23. Here it is! It just came in today! http://image82.webshots.com/482/3/35/16/2421335160051820691wrpjUH_fs.jpg
  24. It may have just been my experience, but I would avoid NAVL at all costs. I bought a custom built machine a few years ago and had it shipped via NAVL. The machine arrived to my house literally broken in half! The entire side of the cabinet was split. I had them return it and waited for another few months to get a replacement machine and when it arrived, the base of the machine had a big crack in it. It was still functional so I didn't feel like waiting again and I kept it. They will never get any business from me again. Well, hopefully the amount of insurance they have to slap on it (The quote does include insurance, right?) will help deter this from happening in my case. For the record, their quote is $431, which is a lot more reasonable than the other company.
