Captain Novolin Super Nintendo Game Rare?
ThunderFist replied to kidsconnection's topic in Classic Console Discussion
It would be awesome indeed if they could make it so that it wouldn't trigger seizures. Don't forget that lights in video games are known to trigger epileptic seizures. -
Help me identify this arcade game.
ThunderFist replied to burnambill333's topic in Arcade and Pinball
Aye, that it is. I never played the multiplayer version much, but it would be fun to get into pushing trees on each other. Steve Meyer said in an interview that that was one of the things about the game that made it so much fun. -
I voted Bart Vs. The Space Mutants as it's the only one I own from that list. I know what you mean about Jackal, though. It's funny that the home version got that title, while the arcade game didn't. Last year, there was a comic shop nearby with an arcade in the basement, and he had a Top Gunner machine! First time I'd seen one in nearly 20 years! As I understand, though, Jackal is the worldwide title of the arcade game outside the US and Japan, and then they decided to give us the real title when the NES release hit.

Captain Novolin Super Nintendo Game Rare?
ThunderFist replied to kidsconnection's topic in Classic Console Discussion
For novelty's sake, you might. That's the same reason Action 52 for NES is worth $100 boxed, and if you've ever experienced that game, then you know full well that sheer obscurity would be the only reason it would go for that. -

Thanks for the pics there! That was too cool not to save. That's pretty cool that you got one that hadn't been written on either. I might try to score one of those someday myself, and maybe give the extra copy to a diabetic kid who might benefit from it. I'd say my best friend, but for one thing he's no longer diabetic, and for another the last time I gave him a game that's purely for novelty, he sold it and lied about it. Some way to treat someone who spent over $50 getting you something, but I digress. -

I would guess that some carts didn't have that, since I believe some were given to diabetic children directly. I could be wrong and theirs might have had those, too, but that sounds like a pretty neat novelty item. How much did that cost you just out of curiosity? -

Awesome, thanks! I'll have to get this one back out and try to beat it then. No problem at all, man. You won't have any problems now that you know how to stomp. It's hard as heck if you don't know how to do it, but it's very easy once you learn the stomp. -
Must-Have games for PC Engine (HuCard or CDROM)?
ThunderFist replied to Epicenter's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Splatterhouse if it's the Japanese version, if not, forget about it, especially since the US version is up for download for the Wii. Anyhow, I personally want to get my hands on a PC Engine, and when I do, the games I'm going to jump on will be the Ys series. Only the third and sixth games got much of a release in the US, and one of those games, the third, while I like it, is considered to be quite inferior to the others. Plus, the SNES and Genesis can't do the animation sequences that the PC Engine version is supposed to have, so that's another reason I want their versions. There's no Ys 5 for it, though - that's SFC only, though I'd love to get my hands on it. And while we're on that topic, where the frig are our versions of the PS2 remakes?! Yeah, I know we're almost sure not to get them, but that's just because neither Konami (they released Ark Of Napishtim in the US) nor any other company is cool enough to bring them here. They have to know there's enough of a fan base that they'd make money with them. -

Oh, for those of you having trouble in Captain Novolin, you can stomp the enemies by pressing down while you're in midair. Bear in mind that you'll drop like a stone once you press down in the air, so try to be right over the enemy when you do it. I informed Wikipedia about that, and now its article reflects it. Apparently the instruction booklet didn't talk about the stomp, so it's no wonder so many people didn't know about it. For the record, yes, I did beat the game one time without stomping any enemies, so it can be done. It's a pain in the butt, but it's possible. It was after beating it that first time that I experimented with the down arrow and found out about the stomp move. -
Help me identify this arcade game.
ThunderFist replied to burnambill333's topic in Arcade and Pinball
I saw a Tapper machine back in the 80s at a bowling alley around Clarksville, TN, but never a Timber machine. The Tapper machine was a Budweiser, though, so it makes you wonder what it was doing in a bowling alley if it was still the 80s. -

I've had a copy since 1999, bought for the same price Scumdogg paid. As I understand thanks to ebay, it is a rare find and worth more than $10, especially if you found it shrinkwrapped! Great deal there! A video rental store in my area actually had this game for rent eons ago, so when I saw it, I knew what it was about. My best friend was diabetic at the time, though, so I bought it so he and I could play it and so I could learn more about the condition. One thing I never figured out, though, was the password system. I'd love to include that in my FAQ on the game at gamefaqs.com That was my first FAQ, so the format's not all that great, but get this! Someone contacted me sometime back looking for the game, claiming he was from Sculptured Software, who developed the game for Raya Systems, the distributor. I checked into it, and yes, Sculptured Software did develop the game, so this guy could be who he says he is. I doubt it, though, because when I asked him about the password feature, he told me he didn't know how it worked or how it affected the game. He said he always wanted a copy for himself, but I know no one else who has it nearby. It seems, though, that it affects the amount of Novolin's insulin dosage and stuff so that kids will be giving him a dose similar to the amount they themselves inject. Regardless, this game is a lot like Action 52 for the NES - not all that great a game, but due to its obscruity, it's worth more than most of the rest you'll come across for the SNES. -
Man, it's been a long time since I posted last! I'm having some problems getting my Action 52 cart (yes, I said cart - fear me! ) running for some reason and hoped someone here knows what to do with those. See, I had a broken pin on my connector set, and I replaced it last year, but Action 52 was one game that played nearly perfectly on my NES, and I think I played it a little after I replaced the connectors. It's not wanting to work now, though, and I don't have the sheet that came with the game, so I don't know if you're supposed to reset the system or turn the power off and back on until it works. Which is it?

This was last year, but check this out! I only had $5 to my name, sometime around April or May, I think April, but I decided to check out a thrift shop I hadn't been to in about 18 years or so (hey, it's an hour away and there was never anymore reason to go). They didn't have anything good, so I hit some pawn shops on the way back. It was near 6:00, so I decided to hit one more and then head home. It's a good thing I ended up where I did - I browsed his PS2 games, and he had a copy of Suikoden 3, in the case and with the book! I figured I was wasting my time, since I only had $5, but asked him how much he wanted anyway, figuring I'd come back and buy it. Can you believe he only had $2 on it?! Needless to say, my 5 came out of my pocket and the word "Sold!" came out of my mouth! To make things even better, I found a decent arcade on the way home with over 10 games! It was in the basement of a recently opened comic and hobby shop. Unfortunately, it wasn't long before he closed down, but I got to be really good friends with the owner. To think, all that came about thanks to a trip to a thrift store!

what do u guys think of this deal
ThunderFist replied to classicgamer24's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I snagged this a few years back, but an Intellivision 2 system, with the box and hookups, for $5! All it was missing were one controller insert for Burgertime and the Burgertime cartridge itself. -
Price check on some loose Colecovision carts
ThunderFist replied to ThunderFist's topic in Rarity Guide
I'll keep that in mind. I forgot to mention, btw, that the top label is missing on the Jukebox cart, though the front label is intact. It still seems to me, though, that I got a heck of a deal for $6 for all those games. -
I just got a great deal yesterday at the flea market! I know I got a good deal, but many price lists seem to be inconclusive as to how much these games generally go for on, say, ebay. These carts are all loose, but all have labels with the exception of Zaxxon. For $6, I got the following games: Jukebox Monkey Academy Tutankham Zaxxon (label missing) Any idea what those are worth combined?

Speaking of Adventure II, I need to get a power adaptor for my 5200, or I'll never get to play it, or any of the other 5200 games I've gotten since the adaptor went awol. I was told once that it takes a 12 volt, 1 amp adaptor. Is it true that I can get one someplace like, say, Radio Shack? By the way, the programmers here have inspired me to make my own homebrew sometime. I've just hoping at this point that someday someone will figure out how to program SNES roms - I figure I'll need at least SNES level power to make the type of game I have in mind.

I bought Reindeer Rescue, and am going to wait to buy some more, but I do plan to get more in the future. I got this one now since it won't be available anytime later. I wasn't sure what to expect from these homebrew games, but Reindeer Rescue I find to be thoroughly enjoyable! I'm still working on level 3, though at least I got the piece of the sleigh in level 2. I've only played it twice so far, btw. I'd play it more, but I must rest up for work. Anyhow, I gather by the flyer that making these games isn't illegal, as I thought they might be at first. I'll definitely get Adventure II sometime - the first one's pretty cool, so I can only imagine what a sequal would be like, done right!

My aunt is going to solder the wires for me as soon as I can get a service manual, and as I can see, there is a place where I can get one, luckily. In the future, btw, please be a little more polite, Dr Galaga.

Superman for NES plays "Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus" when you reenter the Daily Planet to get a password after you exit to begin the level. Either that, or it's "Tis Dawn, The Lark Is Singing", and since both use the same tune, it's impossible to tell which one. I like to think it's "Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus", for one because I'm a Christian, and for another because it seems to me to be the more well-known song of the two. Also, let's not forget the use of "Wipeout" in a few games, some of them being martial arts related (Kung Fu Master and Kung Fu, for arcade, etc. and NES respectively, and also Kung Fu Heroes for NES), and California Games, where it fit the surfing level really well. Oh, and who can forget the killer soundtrack of Rock N Roll Racing for SNES? In my book, anyone who has the class to use "Born To Be Wild" and "Bad To The Bone" has to be one of the coolest people alive! The Peter Gunn theme was also used in that game, and also in Spy Hunter, and I know I for one got introduced to the Peter Gunn theme through Spy Hunter, and I'm sure I'm far from alone on that. Beethoven songs were also used in Phoenix and Gyruss, and my grandmother recognized the song "Come Home" from the 1920s when I was playing Bill & Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure for NES. On a final note, Jeff Rovin noted that use of "I'm A Lumberjack" by Monty Python during the log rolling event in Winter Games. Jeff said most of the sounds were just okay, but he gave an A to that event for having the class to use "I'm A Lumberjack". I don't know about the rest of you, but I love Jeff Rovin's "How To Win At Nintendo Games" series. He's hillarious on top of being informative!

Sony Bashing and "Why would anyone buy a PSP?"
ThunderFist replied to Gabriel's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I have a PSP and I enjoy having it, though admittedly I watch cartoons and listen to music on mine more than I play games. I thought I would enjoy PSP's games more than those the DS put out, but I'm seeing that that's not the case so far. For long trips, if you can only have one, the PSP would be better to have, I have to say, with all that it can do, but if you don't care about all that extra stuff and just want to game, the DS is the way to go. -
I have the tape, though I'd like to get the CD since my tape is wearing out. Sure, "Pac-Man Fever" is the only song that went anywhere, but my personal favorites are "The Defender" and "Goin' Berzerk".

Okay, I just took some, and will post them when they're developed. In the meantime, I have the machine home now, and have confirmed that it works. The wires do not seem to affect the monitor or the game machanics, as the monitor came on and after a few times gave me no problems, but it does not detect the inserting of coins. I put in a quarter twice and flicked the switch, to no avail, and one of the wires is located in the coin door, so I have concluded that this wire tells the game when it can begin play.
-
I recently bought a Flim-Flam cocktail machine for the bargain price of $45. The machine supposedly works, but there's a wire that's cut or something that the owner says must be attatched to the service board to get it to work. Does anyone know how to do this, or do you need a picture to give a decisive answer?
