  1. This is very sad news. Condolences to his family and friends. A huge loss. Rest in peace.
  2. I'll always enjoy my Atari. It was the first computer I ever owned. A solid, dependable old friend, a line retired far, far too early.
  3. You raise a good point. I have an 800XL just sitting around not doing anything. I'd have to pick up the sio2usb and a cable since I don't have the time or proclivity (10 cent word for an 8-bit machine..HA) to get a disk drive. I don't really know, I thought the Hydra looked interesting.
  4. @jayoK I'm toying with the idea of getting a Hydra and I'm thinking that it might be a fun project to start with. It would be something with a clear end result and give me something to work for. As I've said before, I haven't really done any programming in years so it may well be over my head. I suppose the plan would be to learn and do it in SPIN. I don't have a lot of faith that I'd be able to pick up assembly all that quickly.
  5. Perhaps I should better explain what I'm hoping to do. There is a game console on the market called the Hydra that is based on Parallax's Propeller chip. I would like to port the game over to that console. This is mostly just out of curiosity to determine if it's something I can do. I haven't touched any programming in a long long time. But, seeing as I'm somewhat familiar with Atari Basic, if I can review the listings I would have a better idea of how to implement things. It's a pipe dream, yes I know, but it's going to be a very long, cold winter here in New England. Hydra Console As always, comments/suggestions welcomed. Thanks
  6. Hello all. I'm thinking once again of doing a port of the venerable classic Star Trek. I know there are a couple of places that have BASIC listings (noted below) but I have been unable to find a listing for Atari BASIC. Since I'm most familiar with my old 800XL I'd like to work off a listing for that flavor of BASIC. Does anyone have any ideas? Any info would be much appreciated. Places I've found info/listings: http://www.atarimagazines.com/software/software.html (Super Trek ST) http://www.dunnington.u-net.com/public/startrek/ http://www3.sympatico.ca/maury/games/space/star_trek.html The third link is a good history of the game itself. It has a rich history. Many Thanks
  7. Has anyone toyed around with the Parallax Hydra Game Console yet? I'm interested in picking one up, but I'm a little worried the learning curve is going to be beyond me. It looks like a pretty good system but I've not been able to find much feedback on it. Anyone? Anyone?
  8. Thanks. Until I order the sio2pc and find a cable, I'm using an emulator. I'm assuming APE will only work if I'm using real hardware?
  9. I did a quick search through the forum and did not find anything fitting this description so here we go. Recently I got around to picking up the $2 adapter to hook the RF out of my 800XL to my TV. Now that I've confirmed that it works I think I'm going to take it to the next level and pick up the SIO2PC. Of course my head is filled with memories of running to Waldenbooks or Boolkand and picking up the new issue of Antic. At first, I could only use the type-in programs because we couldn't afford a disk drive. After a spell a second cousin gave me a Rana drive and my world was changed. I could now use the disks that came with the magazine! Are there any .atr images of the Antic disks or do I need to make my own image somehow with the files offered on the Antic archive site? Please forgive me if this is a foolish question. Is there a way I can roll my own image and inject the files into that image? Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out. PS- Should I just assume that the Flashback 3 is dead? The thought of my precious 8-bit available freshly on printed silicon is a very happy thought. The Flashback 3 thread seems pretty quiet these days. Thanks!
  10. This sounds facinating. I am certainly going to watch this thread. I've got zero engineering skills, but I've been working with PCs and IT for several years now so if there is something I could do...let me know.
