I'm really surprised to hear this. To get the right colours through an RF connection is something I thought didn't happen on UK TV's. I thought only through S-Video or AV, not via RF. Makes me wonder whether I should go out and get one myself if it's as simple as that. I've got an NTSC compatible TV, but I never considered that RF would take an NTSC picture without changing the colours. An 'NTSC compatible' TV may not be the same as a 'multi-system' TV. A multi-system TV has a NTSC US (& Jap) TV tuner built in alongside the PAL one. They aren't that common in the UK and it's unlikely you have one by chance because of the rarity and also it would have cost considerably more than one with just a PAL tuner. They pop up on Ebay UK every now and then. A Sony 21" just sold for £62. They aren't as in demand now because most things have AV plugs now. Only real use is if you travel say a lot and want to take your TV with you.

My 7800 hasn't been modded yet. I'm waiting for 8bitdomain to get their supply in order and then I'll get one and get someone more technically minded than me to fit it! I do however have a multi-system TV as Bruce says and it plays fine through the RF. On my PAL only set, it plays in black and white with no sound (as to be expected). Cheers Steve

Hey folks, Eurocon 2006 - 27-29th October 2006, near Blackpool UK. Eurocon returns for 2006 to Blackpool in the North West of England. Eurocon is a chance for classic gamers from all over Europe to tell stories, play games, trade games and drink beer! Rather than the more-usual day format that many events and conventions follow, Eurocon is a three day event where we live and breathe classic games 24/7. There is also a public trade session on the Saturday much like previous Eurocons. Check out the web site: Eurocon 2006 web site Look forward to seeing you there! Steve

It emits a high pitched whine and turns itself off after 30 seconds. So I had to get a US 7800 power supply and use it with a stepdown here. Of course it might just be the 7800 I bought. I can't say for sure. Received my NTSC 7800 today and it works great with my UK 7800 power supply. Never knew the NTSC model had a red power LED. Cool!
-
Ugh, damn I just won a NTSC 7800 (to S-vid mod) with all hookups on Ebay NL for $14.50 and was hoping to use my PAL power supply. I'll have to get a converter then to go with the US PS. What exactly do you mean when you say your 7800 doesn't like it? Cheers, Steve.

I have a Centipede cartridge, still sealed in a baggie: http://www.sincil.co.uk/files/baggy.JPG Its the only one I've ever seen. It's Australian (it's a PAL cart) and has a price sticker for Fitzgeralds for AU$19.99. Has anyone else seen/got any of these? I'm curious as to what titles were released like this. Thanks!

Who wants to help build the elusive PAL rarity list then?
Jobf replied to Spirantho's topic in Rarity Guide
Yes, New Zealand is PAL. Michael Davidson lives over there. He's got some nice info on NZ VCS stuff: http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~pinwhiz/2600.htm -

Do we know where these other copies were found? In the UK, Pengo saw a very limited release through Silica Shop (thought to be only a few hundred). This information came from Chris Hind, who used to buy all the games as they were released at the time. When he visited the shop, they had sold out. Maybe Atari sent Silica a test run of Pengos or something? At the time, Silica were well into the VCS. Frogger II, Gyruss and Star Wars Arcade Game were imported exclusively by Silica Shop when Parker pulled out of the video game business in the UK. Anyway, all that said, it deserves a 10! -
