  1. Nope. Only available in US/Canada. No. Use the supplied US adaptor and use a transformer. Make sure you get a two port machine (as opposed to a 4 port) as the 4 port uses a bizarre power/rf lead that makes it very tricky to get working here. With the two port, you'll need to hack off the RF cable as it won't fit in the back of your telly, open up the 5200 and attach a UK compatible RF lead. - It will jsut slide on. Note you'll also need a TV capable of accepting an NTSC signal via RF (an NTSC compatible VCRwill not do), unless you want to play in B+W with no sound. You could always do the video mod, but that (seemingly) doesn't always guarantee colour. Sound seems to work though. I nearly got a 5200 but in the end I thought it just wasn't worth it for all the hassles. Note also the machine is MASSIVE. Shipping will be expensive. HTH Steve
  2. Just a bit more info... I recall the console compatibility FAQ: http://www.gyruss.demon.co.uk/ccnuk/compat.html Quite old now, but I remember speaking to Ian Pleasance saying the PAL 5200 and 3 PAL carts mentioned in this document were owned by someone in the UK. Also interesting is the point that the machine didn't play NTSC carts. Steve/Jobf
  3. Heh.. taking THE piss. Not a piss! 'Taking the piss' is basically just making fun of or teasing someone....sometimes used as an expression of amazement at someones behaviour.. (eg..someone says to a friend..'can I borrow £10,000 please? ...answer..'You're taking the piss!!) Jobf
  4. PAL Boings are definitely not as hard to find as their NTSC counterparts. Nevertheless, a PAL Boing has just sold for £50 ($80) on Ebay UK, though thats at the highest end. Two that were auctioned a few months back went for £30 each ($50), which is a fair price imo. A lot of carts have also been found without any label whatsoever, and no goo to indicate that their ever was a label. Jobf.
  5. Ah my bad.. I thought he'd already covered ground in 7800 conversions. It seems not. Seems like I need someone to find a PAL proto of Robotron then
  6. I really want to play Robotron on my 7800, but as most of you know it wasn't released in PAL format and the NTSC version doesn't work at all in a PAL 7800. I know people such as Thomas have been converting games to PAL for the 2600 (but leaving the framerate at 60hz, as most modern PAL TV's can handle this anyway), and I remember Tizoc converted PAL Sentinel to NTSC, but could someone have a go at Robotron if its possible, that would make me a happy man So... is it possible? Jobf.
  7. Wow! Almost as good as finding one in the wild!
  8. It isn't too bad, but plenty of sellers selling cheaper on Ebay. Eg, this auction - 15 MIB games for $39.95 Buy-It-Now. Only $2.66 each! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=1389906989 Steve.
  9. I'm also looking for a PAL Dark Chambers if someone has a spare. I also want a PAL Centipede which seems to be a bit of sod to find. (Telegames UK had PAL Centipede on their website for £14.99. I phoned them up and they told me the price had gone up to £39.99!! ) Steve

    5200 Jr

Curt, Does the 5200jr motherboard work? The auction says that it's complete but it doesn't say if it works or not... Steve/Jobf
  11. Hmm, well that zip file works fine for me out of the box. Not wanting to sound patronising, but I assume you unzipped using folder names? Inky: It doesn't *need* to be a7800.rom. 7800.rom should be fine. See the enclosed attachment showing the folder setup. Steve.
  12. Get it here http://www.cs.stir.ac.uk/~sjr/MESS.zip (Only available for a very short time so grab it now and let me know when you got it) Cheers Steve/Jobf
  13. I had a similar problem when I used MESS on my old P166. In the end, I changed the default ROM directory from Options -> Directory, but even then, it used to be a bit flakey: work one minute, and not the next. However on this computer with Win XP I have no problems with it. I can send you the zip file of MESS061 with most of the ROMs (4.8mb), but I don't have any Activision roms. Maybe someone could also help me out with them? Steve

    BROKEN 7800 FOR SALE

What are you looking for mate? Do you have any idea what the problem is with it? Let me know Steve
  16. At first I thought I'd found some really cool alternative boxes - a bit like you can find in Australia. Then I noticed, infact, the plastic cases are all the same. The original owner has cut the front of the box up and stuck it in the plastic sleeve... shame. Still looks pretty cool though. http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...item=1384520508 Steve

    7800 & 3D

Xybots would have been nice... a great game in the arcade (not played it on the Lynx) Would that have been possible?? Cheers Steve
  18. Are you sure? An awful lot of Atari releases do........... - particularly the picture and silver label ones.. If not that, then a P after the product number on the front of the cart in the small text - eg CX26123P, or a P sticker on the back of the cart (more common on red label carts)
  19. These Activision games with S stickers for SECAM pop up quite regularly on Ebay.fr. Theres a bunch of boxed games on Ebay fr at the moment, with 2 activision games that have "S" stickers. Also in that lot is a boxed Schtroumpfs. Also, see the finished auction http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...item=1377778368 Incidentally, this Smurf variation pops up in the UK quite a bit. There's no way that the french version is more than an uncommon cart. Its certainly not very rare. I notice Khrysun you got yours for e5.50
  20. Woah, the Sorcerors Apprentice differences are quite major. I've got the PAL cart, but I'll admit to not playing the game much Why the differences? Was it just laziness when converting from NTSC to PAL, or what? Steve/Jobf
  21. Indeed. I treasure my original Ms Pac Man cart, because, back in the day, for no reason whatsoever, I coloured in part of the label with a biro. Don't ask me why I did it, but now this is one of my favourite games in my collection. And its a really good game to boot! Having said that, I also treasure my PAL Qbert proto/loaner: http://freespace.virgin.net/john.rich/Old/qbert.JPG Cheers Steve/Jobf

  23. Hey great job! Just to let you know that these games are available in PAL - I have them. However, I don't think the ROMs are available, so this is great for someone with a Cuttle cart or similar device. Now if someone would convert Crazy Climber (hint hint)
  24. Oh wait. I suppose its a problem if all your carts are PAL, though of my 360+ carts, I'd say that a third are NTSC, so I'd still get a handheld if they were ever produced. Steve/Jobf
