  1. My apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I find myself in the same boat at the OP. Thought I do have access to a Windows XP system and both a real serial port and a USB to serial adapter.
  2. Does anyone sell replacement membranes for the buttons? I’ve had to salvage one off a working unit, to fix my daily driver.
  3. Playing Frogger and managed to get 1136, which is an all time best for me, but i'm sure i can do better
  4. McWill I've sent you a PM as I couldn't find an email address. Found out about this kit today and have to say I'm blown away by the quality of the screen. My Lynx II developed a horizontal line across the lower half of the screen, doesn't stop me from using my Lynx II. But I decided to look in to getting it repaired, only to discovered you can now get new screens! Woohoo!
  5. I've seen these consoles and I've thought about buying one, because I'd like to own a NES and having a SNES and a NES in one box would be great. However what has put me off is the look of the thing. Lord could they have made it look more ughly? They had a vast library of past consoles for inspiration, the original Mastersystem, 2600, NES, Megadrive..and that is what they came up with? Far from being cheap, it looks cheap...They should have taken a leaf from the Flashback consoles and made it look like a hybrid NES/SNES or something. The only one I can say looks ok, is the Retron 2, because it has a blocky early 90's look to it.
  6. Just bought Burgertime for my Atari...Would love to see one of the programmers on here give it some love and attention. I'm sure the end product would be something amazing
  7. Thanks guys for your help, it's cost me $15 in the end. Shipping was twice the cost of the cart, but I like the original arcade Burgertime and wanted to have this in my game collection. The 2600 port might not look pretty, but if the game review I watched it anything to go by, then the gameplay is still pretty good.
  8. Yep the same, I added burgertime to my cart, went to pay and Firefox had a fit. Telling me the site wasn't secure. Because I've never been to the site before, i just wanted to check to see if it was ok
  9. Hi guys My VCS has a Purevideo video module installed, so everything goes through the AV. My flat screen TV refused to work with the aerial lead, so I had to mod it. I've been on that website that is selling burgertime but Firefox reports its not a safe site. Has anyone bought from them?
  10. Hi guys I was watching an episode of Starcade and they had Burgertime as one of the games on the show. I've played the game before but through emulation, I discovered there had been release for the VCS. But for the life of me, I can't seem to find a copy of the game. Is it rare? or am I just not looking in the right places?
  11. Hi there I recently bought a new 27" tv for the living room, retiring the old 22" CRT. Last night was the first time I came to use the VCS since buying the TV and I have to say the RF picture quality was less then amazing. So I've been looking online for a guide to modifying my 2600 to use composite output. My plan would be to replace the RF lead coming out the back of the console, with a single AV cable. My search however has not being going well, I keep reading contraditing reports as to what actually works. So I was wondering if anyone could give me a clear answer. I'm not scared to use a soldering iron, so long as the instructions are reasonable clear to follow. Many thanks James
  12. Well i found a replacement mosfet and installed it. Removing the old one wasn't easy, desoldered the pins and tried wiggling the chip off the board, I must have applied to much force as the damn think broke in two.. Anyways, the new MOSFET was installed and the Lynx still doesn't work. I've tried the wire trick and where as before fitting the MOSFET, the console would work. I now get a blank black screen. The back light IS working, just i'm not getting a picture.
  13. Hi there Need some advice my Lynx has stopped powering on. Was using it a few days ago not a problem, game to turn it on this morning and it's dead as a door nail. Any help would be appreciated.. James
  14. Hi there I've finally branched out from lurking in the 2600 section and bought myself a Lynx. It was listed as faulty along with a copy of scrapyard dog. However i put some freshly charged rechargables in it's powered up and working fine. Just one initial question..my batteries lasted all of about 15 minutes before the Lynx's screen slowly began to go dark. I kept upping the contrast until it just went black/green. Now i remember owning an old LCD TV from the 90's and it would usually do this when it went flat. The power LED didn't blink like on my game gear, it did look like it was flickering tho, very quickly. I tried turning it back on again and the screen would be find, then slowly go black/green again and finally the power LED would fade. Also the sound would go. Now i know people might be laughing at me. But having not owned a Lynx and reading some of the hardware issues with the screen. I'm a right in thinking this isn't a screen fault, just that my rechargable batteries are not up to the job of powering the console? Many thanks James
  15. Im beginning to think your right. Luckily we do have a DVD/VCR combo at her flat, so i'm going to try passing the 2600 through there Thanks for all the help, been very handy! James
  16. The picture seems to stablise after 5-10 minutes of the fresh cart being inserted, but there still remains a 1 inch barely visible bar scrolling up the screen. I'm just wondering if this is something to do with the TV and not the 2600. I've had it apart, i've pressed all the chips down, just in case that was the cause. I've twiddled the screw on the RF modulator which doesn't seem to do a lot aside from move it off channel. I dont think the power switch is actually causing the problem now.. :-/
  17. Bowling is another game that suffers. Q-bert is one game that is perfectly fine. No i've not got one of those cartridges yet, i only read up on them a few nights ago. My gf moved in to a new place and the Atari has been sitting in a box in the bedroom waiting to be used, as we both love playing on the thing. I'm currently looking at Pressure cooker and the picture is fine, but if i start playing it, i'm pretty sure i can bet that 10 minutes in to a game the picture will start to flick, scroll at random..oh and i get a slight buzzing noise through the speakers. P.s I dont have an home brew games
  18. Hi everyone Not been on here for a while, but i've unboxed the Atari six switcher and got back in to playing my favourites Though i seem to be having a slight issue with the picture. I'll do my best to discribe the problem. If insert Keystone Capers, Pressure cooker i get the following picture which will settle down to a very faint bar scrolling up the screen. Uploaded with ImageShack.us At it's worst it takes the form of two 2" bars of static noise, top and bottom of the screen with the picture pulling and scrolling. At first i thought it was the power switch on it's way out. I've taken the console apart, used switch cleaner and tested the lines on the board with a volt meter. The circuit seems fine. I have also tried the atari on a Vega 1970's B/W portable, which gives me a perfect picture and also a more modern flat screen LCD TV, which also gives a nice picture. However my girlfriends TV seems to have a beef with the old atari and i have to fiddle with the power switch till i can get a stable picture and it doesn't always last. I can be 5 minutes in to a game and the screen will start to scroll a little. However the behaviour seems to also be effected by the game i insert in the Atari. One cart will give a perfect picture and another will give the scrolling. Any thoughts?
  19. Just a real quickie as i've only been able to see threads about PAL games on NSTC systems. Will a NSTC game work on my British Pal 2600? I read something about timing.. Cheers James
  20. Hi there I wasn't 100% certain on where i should put this but as i spend 99% of my time in the 2600 section i thought i would post my question to the fellow 2600 users. I'm a UK gamer and i've been looking at the games in the store and i'm really interested in getting atleast one NEW homebrew game. I've been looking at "This planet sucks" which seems like a nice fun game to play and the price is within my budget. That was until i made an account and discovered that shipping was only a couple of dollars short of what i'd be paying for the game. Surely there has to be some cheaper alternatives for shipping? i've bought things off ebay before now that have been heavier but also cheaper to ship then the $16-ish dollars i got quoted in the store. I'd really like to buy a new homebrew game once in a while, but unless shipping comes down i sadly don't see me being able to afford it. Thanks all P.S i hope nobody takes this as a moan and groan. It's just i'd really like to buy a new game and support the 2600 scene, it's just the cost to get the game over to the uk is a killer for me on my crappy income
  21. 1) How old are you? 24 2) What sex are you? Male 3) When did you get an Atari? About 1987 i think 4) When did you become involved with the Atari? (i.e. you wanted to play this over newer systems at the time or today). Erm October of 2005, i'd seen a flashback unit for sale in the supermarket and resisted buying it. Basically because my propery 2600 was up in the loft with all the games i liked already. So the Flashback console reminded me of the old games and made me dig the old system out. Ended up buying a new six switcher 2600 has i only found a buggered Junior in the loft. 5) Why the 2600? What does it offer to YOU that other systems, whether old or new, don't? Fond memories of being 8 years old at my grandparents and playing pitfall in their living room. The games are also straight forward but also challenging. I like new games but they are in a totally different class to those from the 80's or 90's everything is about eye candy and nothings left to the imagination. Oh in addition i can AFFORD the games!! Since when did spending £30+ on a game become acceptable?? There's nothing quite like unwrapping a cartridge you just bought off ebay for £3. Makes me feel like i'm 12 again! hehehe 6) What drink keeps you going? (in case you spend long hours on the 2600). Tea, Cola and possibly coffee 7) How many hours a day or at a time do you play the Atari? When i can usually about 2 hours a day. How many days a week do you spend on it? Erm would it be a bad sign if i said i try to get on it every night? It's a break from using the PC 9) Your top 3-5 games. WHY these choices? Galaxia - it's addictive as hell and i got it for my birthday Miss Pac-man - Again this is a brillient game and totally addictive Bowling - It's great as a two player and loads of fun Asteroids - People bought VCS' for this game alone!! I can easily spend an hour on this 10) Do you play any other systems besides the 2600? Game cube, Sega master system, Game gear, Spectrum +2 11) How do you view gaming of today as compared to the 70's/80's? As i said earlier the gaming we have today is not like it was 10 or 15 years go. Perhaps it because i'm older now. But it just doesn't hold the same grip on me as it did when i was 13 and round at my mates house at 2am playing Batman on his Spectrum. Older games encourage us to fill the gap that is left by the systems limitations. I guess in a way its like comparing comic books to movies, x-men comics to the x-men films. All about perception and using your creative side.. 12) Do you usually just play the 2600 alone or have someone play with you? (If so, is it a relative or friend?) Normally it's on my own, but my girlfriend is growing to such games as miss pac-man. 13) Finally, do you or have you ever tried to turn someone to the "Atari side"? YES all the time Mwuahahahaha!!
  22. After looking at the pictures posted on this list. Concluded mines a light sixer. But hell is it great fr games. I've been buying games on and off since i got it a couple of weeks ago. Miss Pac-man rules!!
