attaching a zip drive to the ST/STE
geosteve replied to Gunstar's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I though that too, pretty sure I read that in an Atari magazine from the ST days. on a website I found this info though so now I guess it doesn't work ____________________________________________________________ "George Iken posts this about using a parallel port hard drive or other storage device on the ST: "The parallel port version of most any of the removable drives will work ONLY on a PC. It will NOT work (even if someone tried to make a driver) on an ST because the ST paralell port does not support bidirectional data (unfortunately, even for the most simple disk writes, the computer really needs to ask a few questions of the hard drive .. otherwise you might be able to cobble up a write many, read never drive interface through the ST parallell port). The SCSI version of virtually all of these removable drives DOES work with the ST (or Mac even). On the ST or MegaST you need a DMA to SCSI host adapter (an ICD or other host adapter). On a TT or Falcon, just plug in to the SCSI port. The ZIP drive is a little unique in that it needs to pull power off the SCSI bus. Not all DMA to SCSI host adapters have power at the pin the Zip is looking for it. If you have the right adapter though, the Zip works fine. I personally prefer the faster and more adaptable (you can use any SCSI ID versus only #5 or #6 on a Zip) Syquest drives. I especially love the EZ135 (I have 3) and EZ230 (I have 2) drives for transferring data between ST and PC." also, IMO, zip disks are too expensive to be practical nowadays. -
On TV - Flashback 2
geosteve replied to Curt Vendel's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I haven't watched QVC for in years, but this is my reason to . I hope the people demostrating it are Atari historians. -
I always had trouble with Zarlor Mercenary, you get so overwhealmed with dozens of those tiny enemies you don't have a chance unless you have the perfect spot to fire the pefect weapon, otherwise... you're dead!

Atari "Sweet-16" Project update on atarimuseum.com
geosteve replied to Curt Vendel's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
great updates Curt! thanks -
While on the mention of differences between 5200 and 8-bit cartridge games, I'm sure you noticed that 'Space Invaders' also has noticable changes. Unlike the 8-bit game, the 5200 version restores the bunkers and has changing invader graphics, and removed the spaceship on the left of the screen.

I don't see why cart size would limit having intermissions, the Ms Pac-Man cart has all 4 mazes and all the intermissions of the coin-op, and sound perfectly.

tried a quick look at KLOV and found this, worth a peek... Gold Bug http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=G&game_id=7963

I'm answering this based on this scenarial... It's 1989 and the first 2 16-bit systems (TG-16 and Genesis, although the TG has been selling in Japan for some 18 months already) are being released and I'm only allowed 1 of them, there's a 3'rd system - the Nintendo SNES, due another year but considering all the problems my friends are having with thier aging NES systems "just blow in the cartridges" I again chose to skip Nintendo hardware. Anyway, I got the TG16 for it's better colors and sounds than the Genesis, I also quickly recognized the Genesis's specs are almost the same as the Atari ST I already owned
-
No contest I have to give my vote to Blazin Lazers, I put far more hours into that than any other TG game I had [that's about 15 total including the sequel "Super Star Soldier", but even that didn't live up blasting the bosses in BL.)

Buying a Falcon.... Back in 1992
geosteve replied to Tempest's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
There was 3 places in MA that sold the Falcon, guess I was lucky As for the topic, I knew a local Atari dealer who managed to get a Falcon030 in mid-1993, after several unanswered or un-helpful calls to Atari's offices regarding a whole shipment of them, he got a whopping 4 delivered. I was somewhat impressed with TOS 4 but not enough to cover the $1200 price tag per feature when I already had a STE system. -
Do you have a super rare Pro-Controller T-Shirt to sell, I'll buy one of those.
-
I believe the TOS & GEM were about 220K, still too large to fit in the 192K ROMs, something near that Anyway, thanks to all the replies here Here's another pic of the original, this scan is from a cover of ANALOG magazine I have, one of many, from early 1985. This one covers the "first look" of the 520ST shortly after it debuted in the winter CES show. trivia about Analog Magazine: hq was located in Leicester, MA - about a 10 min. ride from me

I enjoyed many hours of both this and [later] artillery duel on the 800XL, simple and challenging exactly as Nolan pictuted Atari games should be and yes I admit I sacrificed a few guys for amusement.
-
Here's a pic of that large box. this is also the type I had for my 5200 system I bought new in '82, the only one I ever owned.
-
I have that catalog, honestly I thought that one was already in the catalog archives already so I didn't give it a second thought anyway... the scans came out great, thanx!
-
Has this one been done yet? sorry if I'm copying the idea I just whipped this up using Paint Shop Pro 9
-
Mostly Unboxed. With the exception of my Jag collection, a few Lynx games but with damaged corners, and a dozen or so flattened boxes from various ST games I bought over the years.

Imagitec's techno beat behind Jeff Minter's Tempest games, especially T3K

Sounds cool, I'll be looking for the 8-bit cart check out this pic I found on my hard drive from a couple years ago...

I only have 2 and they both say "game"

Does anyone know the release date of the original 520ST, with the disk based OS? I remember it's summer 1985 but I'm not sure exactly. I haven't seen much "20th Aniiversary" yet ?? Anyone own one of the first ones? I didn't get one then, too young, but I finally saved for a 520STFM in '87 (which was the most popular at the time).

This looks cool, Hey let me know about that NUON spinner for T3K :!: I'll get one! I'm even located in central New England so that's gotta be somewhere near Quaint

Flashback 2's flashy menu - sneak peak
geosteve replied to Curt Vendel's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I'm so excited about this one, can't wait to get it -
:!: Cool! I never heard of these before. It must be a licensed product limited to Europe or just France. Speaking of France, perhaps Infogrammes has something to do with it they have been involved with Atari since the 80s.
