I'd argue that the comments on any news story on any given day brings out the worst in people

I mainly use Twitter "indirectly" via Nuzzel -- when something gets shared a bunch of times, it rises to my attention

I just follow soccer pundits and a few other things that interest me, so I haven't seen stuff that was that bad. The religious and political rumblings on Facebook are another matter, which is why I don't go there.

Probably because blonde hair and caucasian skin are very close in overall tonal value. By darkening their roots, it helps to increase contrast and "frame" their face better. Otherwise, to get their facial features to stand out, they would have to put on more makeup (heavier eye shadow, brighter lipstick, etc).
