  1. I'm always playing the surfing on California Games. Robotron is fantastic for quick blasts. I've really been enjoying Zaku and Rampart, S.T.U.N. Runner and Roadblasters are amazing as well. Damn, now I want to buy more Lynx games.
  2. I've been doing a bit of research (ie just playing games) and Dave Dies is credited with creating the excellent version of Robotron, while Roland Knight did joust. At the moment the profiles just list the programmer as staff in the Lynx section. Who has the ability to change this information and update it?
  3. Wow people still have axes to grind. How sad. I hear you about the Atari coverage and we're rectifying this immediately. I've spent most of my personal time tracking down coders who turned out cracking Lynx conversions for an article in issue 77 and Marty Goldberg is putting together an Atari 7800 piece for the issue after. Retro Gamer is put together based on the knowledge of the staff writing for it. As it stands, noone hardly ever shows any interest in pitching ideas about Atari or its consoles, which is why it has so little coverage in the magazine. As for Stuart. I've no idea why you'd just bring him up, but if you don't want to read the magazine because he occassionally appears in it then that's entirely your choice. Sales have been continually increasing in the US over the last few months which is why I'm obviously keen on attracting freelancers who know the market place. If any of you think you can do a better job than what's in the magazine (and I still think we have far better coverage than you can get on the net in terms of developer interviews) then feel free to email me. Kindest regards, Darran
  4. Hi guys I'm putting together a feature on why the Lynx had so many cracking arcade ports and I'm having difficulty tracking the above down. Any ideas where they might be?
  5. Sadly none of the people I spoke to where able to supply me with free copies of the games (hardly surprising really) I wanted to feature and there was no budget to buy the games in so it never actually happened I guess there won't be any feature story about Battlesphere then. It's a tricky situation mate. At the end of the day you can't really expect people to hand you out games for free - especially when they're working from limited resources - but RG's budget doesn't extend to cover purchases for review. Therefore any purchases like that would come out of my own pocket. Now I do love playing on the Lynx, but I often don't have the spare cash to pay out for the prices these homebrew titles typically go for. The Zaku review came about because the team were kind enough to send us a copy so we could review it. If this never happened it wouldn't have received any coverage at all.
  6. That's fair enough, but we're not making this magazine for one person, we're writing it for thousands of readers, all of which have their own special idea of what is and isn't retro. Therefore it's a nightmare keeping everyone happy every month. So we just concentrate on trying to do the past job we can. Plus you have to work with the tools available to you. For example. I contacted loads of Atari homebrew programmers a good year ago now because I wanted to do a big feature on the Lynx homebrew scene. Sadly none of the people I spoke to where able to supply me with free copies of the games (hardly surprising really) I wanted to feature and there was no budget to buy the games in so it never actually happened
  7. If you had made a fair and valid point you would have had everyone here and on the RG forum agreeing with you, but you don't. I'm sorry we've not been to past events, but it's not due to not liking Atari and I'm sorry that you lost money, but again that isn't my fault. So far though you've offered no proof that giving Zaku a page coverage in one issue and a 70 word review and decent score in another issue has pissed off a lot of would be readers and subscribers. You've just proven that you can't let this go, which is just a little sad. Still some good has come out of this, I'm playing Robotron on my Lynx tonight.
  8. You're talking absolute tosh and you know it. I've always given plenty of notice when i've not been able to go to events. I have a family and they take priority at weekends. Sorry about that. I've also been on my own when you've invited me to most events, meaning getting cover has been impossible. Again ive always explained this in the past. And how have we cost you money at these events? I was quite looking forward to going to the next jagfest, mainly as a lot of lynx owners have been watching my lynx videos on my youtube channel recently and telling me how much fun they had at the last event. Your childish comments however have been so petty over this weekend that I now have no interest at all in ever going to any of your future events or indeed supporting them in the magazine. So well done, you've done your precious community proud due to constantly whining about a brand new game (not a retro game) not getting enough coverage in the magazine. You constantly say that you're not a fanboy, but you're certainly coming off as one.
  9. Retro Gamer is 114 pages, 5 pages of which is to review retro/retro styled games on newer systems). Hardly a massive amount of non retro gaming content.
  10. It was simply a lack of space i'm afriad. What The Laird has failed to mention is that we gave it a page article in the news the previous month. Typcially we wouldn't even cover a game like Zaku in the non homebrew section of the magazine, but because we'd recently put Rush, Rush, Rally Racing (a new DC game) in the commercial reviews section we gave Zaku the same privalidge.
  11. Oh do get over yourself. Zaku got the score it deserved. It's a fun little shooter, but massively flawed in quite a few areas and we're not going to ignore that just because it's a new commercial game on a dead system. To suggest that we're a joke because a game on the Lynx didn't get the score you feel it deserved is rather childish to be honest. I love the Lynx and have posted on these very forums and taking part in high scores competitions when I've had the time, so please don't insult myself or the mag because you haven't got your own way.
  12. Glad to hear some of you are enjoying the article As someone has pointed out it's currently available for $80 for 13 issues or you can buy it on the iPhone for $1.99
  13. Just a heads up to let you know that a huge eight page hardware interview with Eric Bromley is in the latest issue of Retro Gamer magazine. It's full of amazing anecdotes like his discovery of Donkey Kong and is supplemented by an interesting interview with Dave Johnson. The issue is available now and should be available in Barnes and Noble. Alternatively you can buy a digital iPhone version for $1.99
  14. It's coming. postage deals are completely different, which is why Canada is counted as rest of world. This is changing though and if you read my last link, you'll see that our subs manager is going to be rectifying it very soon.
  15. Can you explain what you mean by this? Type in YOUTUBE in big letters... where? Thank you! Michael hmmm, I don't seem to be able to edit my original post anyway the actual link is www.imaginesubs.co.uk/RET you'll then be asked to submit a code the code is YOUTUBE once you've done this you'll be giving payment options etc
  16. Apologies, it appears that it's still showing £80 (i'd imagine that they've put £80 instead of $80). I'm on holiday, but have notified the subs department. Oh and you should get your issues sent immediately.
  17. Apologies for the nature of this post, but I know a lot of US readers of RG don't like its high price tag. It's now possible to get a 13 issue subscription for just $80, which is a pretty good deal. You can get this by going to www.imaginesubs.co.uk?RET and typing in YOUTUBE in big letters.
  18. Hi guys, I'm writing a feature on Gauntlet, but want to make sure that Dandy gets fair credit. Can anyone remember if it allows you to choose from multiple exits like Gauntlet? My memory is a bit rusty and I'm having trouble trying to sort out an emulator for my mac.
  19. Nice, one of my favourtie lynx games. Will start posting scores early nxt week.
  20. Please include me and I'll cover the final product in Retro Gamer magazine
  21. Weren't you planning to stick to the recommended titles? yeah, it was umm. cheap
