  1. I've just come from reading the GG LED thread, I agree that would work but I do not have anywhere near the electronics capability to figure out how to do it.

When I get my new games room sorted out (later in the year) I might dissect one of my Lynx units on the workbench and see what can be done.

Of course, any pointers in the meantime would be GREATLY appreciated :D

  2. Well, did some research, i don't want to buy a Jag in the L.D.U. Wow, what prices.

    Wasn't videopac sold in Australia?

They were but in quite limited numbers as they never really took off. One went on eBay.com.au before Christmas for around AUD$60.

Prices are way too high at the moment, seemingly fuelled by a few rabid collectors/on line stores who seem intent on buying up anything at stupid prices. Two years ago people were almost giving systems and games away now it is quite the reverse. I'm buying games for all systems back to SNES from local gaming stores now for less than on eBay and without all of the hassles.

  3. I'm lucky in that I've never had a console fail, in fact my Dreamcast was recently subjected to a really bad shock when I moved the cupboard it was in down a flight of stairs and forgot the unit was still in there - lucky it does not seem to have had any ill-effects - I'm a twit!!!

However, I have had a couple of Lynx II backlights fail and a couple of Game Gear sound issues. The latter is a really simple fix but I am yet to find a solution for the backlights.

All this talk about the Colecovisions really get me nervous, mine is pretty bashed about but still works fine. I do baby my Vectrex though as I would hate anything to go wrong with it as I reckon fixing it would be bloody near impossible!

  4. Hello all,

I am wanting to set up a Xbox in a MAME cabinet and am having difficulty finding a simple and complete MAME solution for it on the web. Can anyone advise what to use, how to install and any tips/tricks that are needed to be known.

As this has no doubt been covered some time ago, even pointers to previous threads would be appreciated.

  5. Follow up on 1st post:

Having played the unit for some weeks now I am beginning to agree with the thought that the Wii might be heading to where the N64 and GC were in regards to 3rd party software, the controllers really lend themselves to specialty titles as the cross platform titles do not seem to play as well as on the Xbox due to the controller.

But that said, we have been having a blast playing GC games on our Wii, we never bought a GC and the games are all on clearance around here so we have been getting into some exclusive titles and really enjoying them. As with the N64, 4 player games are great on the Wii/GC.

  6. Monopoly/Yahtzee/Boggle/Battleship

She Who Must Be Obeyed bought a copy of this on the weekend, I was surprised to see it was a US version as all local releases are normally through Nintendo Australia. So maybe that's why they seem to be rare, they were all bundled up and shipped over here!

If you really cannot find a copy and want one, I can get you one for AUD$50 plus postage, PM me if you want.

  7. System: It has exceeded my expectations in build quality and the controls are superb. Ok, so every now and then you can confuse the motion detectors but overall they completely support the game play and do become an extension of your arm - very impressive.

Games: We only have Sports and Play (which came with our second Wiimote). Sports is excellent. We have had people who have almost never played video games spend hours playing sports. The graphics are fine and the controls excellent. It is being played at least one hour a night since Xmas in our house.

WiiPlay came out once, was looked at and went back in the box. It just does not seem to really add any value. It may be a good title for young kids to get used to the controls and that may be all.

We've been holding off getting any more games at the moment due to cost and waiting to see what you guys recommend. We will definitely be heading off to get Super Swing Golf as I reckon Sports Golf is pretty good and She Who Must Be Obeyed loves the game.

I'll be out shopping for some GC games and a controller and memory card this week as well as it has already been said, but getting two systems in one is pretty cool and we never got a GC and there are some games we had missed out on that we will now add to the collection.

Overall, a great addition to our gaming room and we are looking forward to spending a lot of time Wii'ing in the corner.

  8. Coleco was big but everyone must have them buried in their garages as they are relatively rare.

You are right about the Vectrex though, I'm lucky enough to have mint system but they are going for ridiculously high prices at the moment.

XEGS were almost given away a few years ago, now the prices are higher.

  9. KEEP IT AND BRING IT WITH YOU! eBay.com.au is where you will get most of your stuff in Oz and a quick look will show that prices here are very variable but mostly are going up, up, up.

Jag and 5200 stuff is very hard to find but 2600 hardware and games are very easy to pick up. Bricks and mortar stores that sell "retro" stuff are few and expensive, if you will have the time to trawl garage sales you should do okay for Nintendo and Sony stuff.

So come on over to God's own country and enjoy :D

Remember that many wonderful days and nights will start with beer and barbies and finish with beer and gaming ;)

  10. As I was reading this I was also discussing the whole Wii and VC thing with one of our IT guys and he handed me a D-Link Wireless G54 Access Point to try with my ADSL modem (which has one ethernet point) and Wii - will this work?

I am a complete wireless newbie adn would appreciate any pointers.

    Cheers.

  11. and if LucasArts get off their asses to make a lightsaber game the damn system will be just as hard to find next Xmas.

OMG, I didn't even think about the posibility. That would be the best game ever!!!

I'm lucky enough to have received my Wii straight after Christmas by the virtue of a Target Rain check (Nintendo in Oz are allocating complete shipments to stores at the moment and we were lucky enough to register with Target who were the next in line with Nintendo Oz), even got $10 off.

I completely agree with Nova, the pack in sports games are fantastic (four of us playing all New Years eve, it is so immersive we even forgot to check the time and missed out on midnight - but who cares, our resolution is to do better at Wii Sports :D) and a light sabre game would be brilliant. The controllers are so responsive and the system just begs for a well-designed Star Wars game.
