In my quest to use as much original hardware as possible when playing all of the games I now have access to from the web, I pose the question - Is there any way of loading TI99/4A ROM files from PC to the TI? I am using one of my PCs as a file server for my C64 and Apple II's, to load flash carts for my CV and Vectrex, plan to start experimenting with downloading cassette images into my Speccy using the soundcard and am building the interface for my XEGS and would love to be able to do something similar with one of my all-time favourite machines. Any ideas out there?

did smurfs appeal to you as a kid? (the vcs game)
AussieAtari replied to super_dos_man's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Another one who was not aware of the VCS version until many years later. I still have my CV Smurfs game from when I bought it "back in the day", it was a game you could relax with as it was not too challenging and really had great graphics. I did prefer the Cabbage Patch Kids CV platformer for game play. I never actually got into the Smurfs though. -
That is exactly what my "gaming" hobby has been turning into of late, I'm really enjoying getting old hardware connected to my PC's and basically using the PCs as file servers. For consoles and computers that cannot be directly connected I'm buying flash carts and the like. MAME is the only emulator I've run in quite a while, and MESS for TI99/4A emulation, but only because I cannot locate a flash drive and as far as I know you cannot load cartridge images into the machine through the cassette interface. Gaming and playing with hardware = true geek happiness (according to my wife anyway)

Oh, and actually on topic, can anyone recommend a PC wheel to use with Mame? -

I am surprised the "Joy of Home Brewing" is so thin!!! Is that a bookmark indicating how far into the book you got before discovering the joy after a few pints and not having to read any further? -

Sega Master System Popularity?
AussieAtari replied to Curt Vendel's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Very nice collection indeed. I have two orginal SMS consoles and one SMS Mark 2. They are not my favourite consoles, but the games are so plentiful and cheap over here that it is my "budget" system for whenever I just need a quick, cheap gaming fix. I found the SMS had games closer to what was around in the arcades at the time compared to the NES and that was the appeal to me. Sure it had a heap of pretty lame sports titles (a lot of which really were relevant to North America and not Oz) but there was/is enough to warrant it being fired up from time to time. I actually own and like the SMS arcade stick and am always on the hunt for the lightgun as I love gun games and don't have one for that system yet. Curiosity is bugging me though, I would love to know the reason behind Curt's question. -
Colecovision VCS Expansion Module - format specific?
AussieAtari replied to AussieAtari's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Maybe that is why River Raid is one of my all-time favourite games - because it is slow! Mind you, the fact that some PAL games are slower just makes the fact that I am a crap gamer even worse -
Colecovision VCS Expansion Module - format specific?
AussieAtari replied to AussieAtari's topic in Classic Console Discussion
That might be the way I have to go in order to get my last "holy Grail" - a 5200, as I have not seen one come up for sale on eBay Oz for over a year now. I've been trying to get a NTSC Flashback 2 for some time now, I've had a couple of AA members offer to arrange one for me but they have baulked when it came to actually arranging it and I cannot find a vendor who ships new units to Oz who does not want over USD$50 in postage! I like PAL format, the picture always seems clearer than the NTSC format movies I have. -
Colecovision VCS Expansion Module - format specific?
AussieAtari replied to AussieAtari's topic in Classic Console Discussion
PAL modules were available in Oz, they just don't seem to come up for sale. Most TV's sold in Oz support both PAL and NTSC playback, which is handy for DVD's, NTSC consoles and the like. Given what JB has said, it should all work fine. I might give it another month or so of looking locally before I import one from the States. -
I've just got to say that yours is a great and funny idea, and you will get fit whilst enjoying the joke - bonus!

My wife and daughter have compelled me to add the following votes for best pack-in: Wife - Mario Kart DS Daughter - Nintendogs Both have been/are genuine pack-in games with the "heavy" DS in Oz.

Best Commodore 64 joystick/controller?
AussieAtari replied to zombiecraig's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
Impossible Mission is a C64 MUST HAVE, great game, I still love hearing that voice when the game starts - "Stay awhile - STAY FOREVER!" - fantastic stuff. -
Agree totally, the "show your games room" is a good pinned topic as are any polls but only pinned for the duration of the poll.
-
This is a tough poll to contribute to if you only have a dozen or so games (like me) and cannot really fill out a Top 10, so here is my Top 5 which can be discounted if it screws with the tallying: 1. Lemmings 2. Klax 3. Scrapyard Dog 4. California Games 5. Blue Lightning

Best Commodore 64 joystick/controller?
AussieAtari replied to zombiecraig's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
You're right, but I'm such a completist that printing out disk file listings on a dot matrix brings me perverse pleasure - I've even got spare rolls of thermal paper for my tiny Co-Co printer that simply fades in next to no time but is great to bore people with "how it was when I was a lad" stories. -
Supporting homebrew games is a good thing, and you can pick up loose, common Vectrex carts for reasonable prices on eBay etc.
-
Not to forget things such as Vectrex emulators where the games have been released into the public domain and the actual units are getting so expensive that emulation may be the only way some can still experience/enjoy that system. The same goes for many homebrew games where the code is realeased for free or for sale to be used in emulators as the developers cannot afford to offer carts.

Go for the Wico bat handle or the Slik-Stick, both are great and you can use them on your VCS. They are nice and solid, really take a pounding and just seem to play better than any of the many Quickshot sticks. BTW, does anyone know where you can still get Commodore printer ribbons? -
Now you are just showing off!!!!!!

VecFlash is definitely the way to go.

The Great Galaga Multi-Cade Project
AussieAtari replied to Crazy Climber's topic in Arcade and Pinball
The TARDIS (stands for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space) is Dr. Who's time travel machine (his Police Box) where the outside is small but the interior almost infinite in size.
