perhaps it's random coincidence, but most people i know who had an NES played Blaster Master. I was under the impression that it was a fairly common game, and I recall most mags of the era had articles and even maps and strategies for it.

Hardcore Gaming Magazine just reminded me of one, North and South. Blaster Master is hardly underrated. It appears on most people's "good nes games" lists.

Favorite Mortal Kombat Game?

how dare you leave off Trilogy, Sub Zero, and Special Forces? -
Found the following, and highlighted the important part. __________________________________________________________________ From Multimedia Wire 1-18-95 Atari exiting video game business, liquidating gaming assets. Atari Corp. is throwing in the video game towel. Company sources tell MMWIRE Atari is liquidating all its video game assets, including the Jaguar, Jaguar CD and Atari Interactive, the company's recently launched PC software division. It would appear that the Tramiel family, the largest Atari shareholders (with approx. 47%), have decided to apply Atari's $50 mill. cash reserves in a business other than video games — or any consumer product for that matter. The sudden move comes on the heels of the recently launched Atari Interactive. Just last week Atari told MMWIRE it expected to use a portion of that $50 mill. to invest in video game software companies. The closed video game division leaves behind an installed based of 150,000 Jaguar game systems and outstanding title development contracts amounting an estimated $6 to $8 mill. Approx. 20 employees have been laid off, leaving 30 remaining. These too are expected to depart shortly. Layoffs include the entire Interactive division including management, accounting and legal personnel. The Tramiels intend to exit the video game business, liquidating those assets. MMWIRE believes the Tramiels intend to merge the resulting company with a computer components manufacturer. While it is not known who Atari intends to merge with, the combined companies are expected to trade under the current Atari stock symbol . Founded in June 1994, Bethesda, Md.-based Multimedia Wire is the leading new service dedicated to interactive entertainment and new media business. An archive of Multimedia Wire stories, including stories on Atari and other interactive entertainment companies, can be found on MMWIRE Online on the Internet at http://www.mmwire.com SUNNYVALE, Calif. — May 20, 1996 — Atari Corporation today reported its financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 1996. Net sales for the first quarter of 1996 were $1.3 million as compared to $4.9 million for the first quarter of 1995. As previously reported, the Company sold the remaining balance of its holdings in a publicly traded security during the first quarter of 1996 and realized a gain of $6.3 million. Sales of the Jaguar continue to be disappointing and the Company made substantial writedowns of inventory in the first quarter of 1996. The Net Loss for the first quarter of 1996 was $.8 million compared to a net loss of $4.4 million for the first quarter of 1995. The Company is pursuing sales of its inventory of Jaguar product in Europe and North America. ____________________________________________________________________ Based on the the time frame of the two above articles and compared sales figures, I highly doubt there were 350,000 Jag systems sold, let alone individual units of a game.

I thought so, but wasn't sure.

well, that would be the obvious answer I was refering to. I suppose it's cheaper than using some kind of cardboard or styrofoam insert, but it just seems cheesy. Not a complaint per se, just a personal preference. -
perhaps I should ammend my original statement. When I said decent, I wasn't refering to quality of craftmanship, as that is impossible to tell from a picture. I meant decent as in ease of use. I'm sure that stick is of the highest of quality (btw, who made it?), but as I stated right below the decent comment, the layout looks awful. The button arrangement is awkward and based on the size comparison to the jag controller, it seems as though it would be very cramped.

hmm, I wish I knew of a site that had sales records. Sega and nintendo used to post sales records. Atari did not? I find it hard to believe AvP sold that many copies, pretty much for the same reasons as Starcat. If it sold so well, why is it one of the more uncommon games to find? (all the Alien and Predator collectors bought up the cartridges and never bought a Jag?- I know it happens with Star Wars stuff). Those numbers were ridiculous for 1993 as well. Snes and Genesis were selling millions and millions of units a year.

You are arguing semantics. Yes, it's an exageration that there was zero consumer interest, but not by much. What was the total sales figures? I believe I've read 250,000. Pretty pathetic. You can bash a system if most of the games are junk. If GM released twenty different cars a year, and all of them sucked except two, it'd be safe to say that GM sucked as a car manufacturer. Two flukes do not change the status quo. I agree that bits do not matter at this point, but it did matter then. Atari made the mistake of pushing the bit argument forward. (remember the elephant behind the tree ad?) Just about every ad extolled the greatness of Atari's 64 bit machine; however, the games revealed did not deliver on hat Atari was promising. really, this whole thing is incredibly childish. If I stopped reading a mag simply because I liked something and they didn't, i wouldn't read any mags at all. The persecution complex has to go.

well, I received it yesterday. I haven't had time to play it yet (so the deathwatch is still on), but what is up with the velcro on the back. I know the obvious answer, but it seems really cheesy. -

Snatcher, the Working Designs translations, Earthworm Jim SE, Mickey Mania, Third World War, Eternal Champions, Dark Wizard, Final Fight, Shining Force, Robo Aleste, Silpheed, Sonic CD, Flink, Keio Flying Squadron, Road Rash, and Dune aren't real games? -
1. I'd never try to use intellect to outsmart you, as it would be a waste of a resource. 2. Yes, I used google. Somehow, I doubt that you'd take my word for it when I tried to explain that the word you were using was the wrong one for the context. 3. If you want to avoid flame wars, don't bring my name up.

jar-gon: 1 a : confused unintelligible language b : a strange, outlandish, or barbarous language or dialect c : a hybrid language or dialect simplified in vocabulary and grammar and used for communication between peoples of different speech 2 : the technical terminology or characteristic idiom of a special activity or group 3 : obscure and often pretentious language marked by circumlocutions and long words hmm, your posts seem to reek of this more than mine. If you want to use spiffy new words, at least use the right ones. thank you and good night.

help decide which cheap xbox games to get
jesusc replied to ATARIeric's topic in Modern Console Discussion
splashdown $10 might be fun it is. Roadkill $15 looks like fun never played it myself. one of my buddies is a Twisted Metal-head, and loves this game GunGriffon: Allied Strike $10 is it multiplayer ? I really liked the Saturn and Ps2 games. It's not bad, but not great. You should be able to get a used Mechassault for about the same price, and it's more fun. Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel $15 I played this for a few hours one day. It's like a post apocalyptic Baldurs Gate (console versions) with a profuse amount of F-bombs. Didn't find it to be horrible, but not good enough to keep my attention. Drake $10 If a friend paid you $10 to take this game, you should no longer consider him a friend. It's that bad. 883051[/snapback] -
Who'd've thunk I'd ever USE my Dreamcast modem?
jesusc replied to JB's topic in Modern Console Discussion
3.0 wasn't released on the DC demo disks. For the longest time, you had to order it from the planetweb website for $30. Lately though, they have been selling it on eBay for $14 shipped. I just bought one for completeness sake. As an aside, it was the only one to support the DC broadband adapter. Have fun finding a cheap one of those though. -

wow, six years later, and you're still a cheap bastard. When having problems with my Roadrunner, I've had to resort to dial-up through the Dreamcast. Only to check email though, I'm become much too spoiled to actually surf anywhere without broadband. I've pretty much forgotten about how you could boil an egg waiting for a page to load, and i like it that way. -
hey, i can admit when I'm wrong. Sadly, that's not a sentiment shared on this board.

I'm sure there are a few jag fans who would like to sabotage my cart...but the trick will be on them, for much like most everything I buy, I will probably never play it anyway. Ah ha ha! -

just placed my order. Hopefully it's fun, as it will be my first homebrew (unless the Songbird Jag titles count, but I don't think they do). If it sucks, my outlook on life will be destroyed, and I will have to kill myself for wasting $30 on Breakout. Stay tuned for updates. -
well, I stand corrected. In comparison I found the 32X sprites to be larger and the animation smoother, and of course the lack of load times is nice; however, since the "videogamecritic" stated in his reviews that the Jag was the best console version he'd seen; then it must be true. It must also be true that Atari Karts, Blue Lightning, Brutal Sports Football, Bubsy, Checkered Flag, Club Drive, Cybermorph, Dragon, Fight For Life, Flip Out, Hoverstrike, I-War, Kasumi Ninja, Pitfall, Space Ace, Supercross 3D, Val D'isere, and White Men Can't Jump are all horrible. So any of you guys who have defended them in the past must surely stand up and announce that you were wrong. 'cause the videogame critic said so, and his voice is the final word.

Stolen from a post on another board, you have to see it to believe it. http://pizazz.info/pizazz.mov

are you really so asinine as to bring bits into it? I said decent stick. Whilst what you showed in the pic surely could be indentified as a stick it hardly looks decent. However, I'm sure you'll argue PR is just fantastic with a three button weirdo layout.

Any one getting the new bomberman for the ds?
jesusc replied to sega saturn x's topic in Modern Console Discussion
ideally, the actual thing will always be better than emulation. However, it's a lot easier carrying a PSP around than six different systems and a TV. Save states are nice too. BTW, we miss you in Cheektowaga. Rhindle was crying because he didn't get to say Happy Birthday to you. (though he didn't even remember mine...bastard). -
I do, I own it. It blows the Jag version away in every aspect, plus, you have the option of using a decent stick with it.
-
32X as well.
