  1. No, they won't. Original JagLinks aren't designed to be used that way, and all you would achieve is short-circuiting outputs together.

  3. First, I still recommend returning it if you can, as it's the easiest solution. As I said above, it's probably not the cartridge connections. If I'd have to venture a guess, I'd say that something is wrong with the reset circuitry. C42 (a capacitor) sets the length of the reset pulse ; while it is active, the screen stays black, afterwards it starts booting. Check if there are no bad solder joints or bad components in the vicinity. You can find a complete schematic of the Jaguar here, and the location of the reset circuit on that page explaining how to add a reset switch.
  4. Not really It uses X/Y encoding scheme, which is common when there are a lot of buttons. Otherwise, the joypad connector would have needed a lot more wires. Oh boy. A piece of advice : don't even talk about duplicating commercial games, especially Battlesphere. You've got no idea of what you're getting into. (Search older topics to see what I mean).
  5. If the LED does light up, then the cartridge and the connector aren't the problem. Even with bad contacts, you should see the Jaguar logo on a red background, not a completely black screen. If you have the option of returning it to the seller, I think you should do it.
  6. There are two pins on the cartridge connector that have to be connected together (by the cartridge), otherwise the Jaguar won't boot at all : you'll get a black screen and the power LED won't light. It's possible that those two pins are flaky on your connector. In that case, if you know how to use a soldering iron, you can connect them permanently ; there is no ill effect. It might also be a problem with the power supply, but it's not something I've seen before.
  7. Same thing here : English/German/French manual, J9010E on the cart, but J9010 on the box (but I bought it used, so there's a slight possibility that the box doesn't match the cart). Maybe Atari never made a "E" version of the box ?
  8. The auction says that it was bought in a garage sale and not tested. You should know that some used Jags, especially the ones sold for cheap, have one of the faults mentioned above. It's up to you to decide if you want to take the risk of buying a potentially non-working console. Do you have the skills and motivation to fix it if it's the case (or lose $35 + shipping) ?
  9. Moeroshop has been known to sell used stuff as new, and there have been several reports of poort customer service. Beware.
  10. Most common issues I've seen : - internal voltage regulators blown because someone mistakenly used the power supply from another console. Fixable, but you need to be able to solder small parts. - bad contacts on the cartridge port. Sometime they just need a good cleaning, but they may also be bent.
  11. Yup, they're good looking
  12. Basically, if you're comfortable with mac and aln, there is no real reason to switch right now.
  13. Thanks, ovalbugmann. Intresting stuff, anyways !
  14. I'm a bit confused... is this related to the Atari Mega ST & TT computers that were used by testers and currently on sale on eBay ? Did Willard and BuddyBuddies buy one or more of them ? Or is it something unrelated ?
  15. Can you elaborate on the differences between this beta and the released version ? Is it possible to use it in a network with either variant of the released version ? I'm not an Aircars fan, but I'm curious
  16. This post has been moved from the Jaguar general forum to the Auction Central forum, with a "moved" link left in the original forum. In Auction Central, the "last post info" column correctly displays the last post (currently, it's post #8 ), but the same column in the Jaguar general forum is wrong (it shows post #5). Not a big deal, just wanted to let you know
  17. A very interesting artifact of Atari's history. I, too, hope whoevers wins this auction is going to make the contents of the hard drive available to the Jaguar and Lynx communities.
  18. There's a homebrew MOD player made by Sinister Developments, and another one made by SebRmv in his C library. MIDI is supported by the Atari sound synthesizer, but AFAIK no homebrew has been written using it. MP3 is not supported ; there just isn't enough CPU power to decode it in realtime.
  19. Well, I know of at least one development team which has started coding for the Jaguar precisely because of the Skunkboard. And they have even released several games already
  20. Some VGA extensions cables work fine, indeed ; but not all, since some pins are unused for VGA (and thus not connected in some cables) but are required for the pads to work.
  21. It's probably doable, but I'm not sure it would be worth it... I've never found the controllers wires to be disturbing, and extension cables are pretty easy to find if you need additional length.
