Cases for the Mini-ITX based Atari 8-Bit Motherboards
MEtalGuy66 replied to mytek's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
When you apostraphize a plural, it really looks dumb. That's a 3rd grade level grammar mistake. -
Vic, all the upgrades you have mentioned so far are from this guy: http://www.nleaudio.com/css/

Yeah. Jump on that deal before someone else does.. The 130xe has switches on the back.. probably a ram expansion.. The chips in the bag look like 1050 stuff.. maybe some spare roms/eproms, etc.. Theres also an ApeFace (or clone) SIO to centronics parallel printer interface.. The $250 is more than fair..

Interesting.. As Kheller points out above, one keyboard variation has both the initial and terminal/independant forms of the letter Lam. The second variation (which he purports to be more rare) only has the terminal/independent form of Lam on the G keycap. Mine is the latter version, and the box (which matches the serial number) was marked SA which is presumably Saudi Arabia...

I think my old Hayes Smartmodem 300 is working but...
MEtalGuy66 replied to DavidMil's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I could help you by sending you a box of 56k external modems... -
These work well: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Scrw-Sm-Phl-Fh-4X3-8Cd25-By-Hillman-Mfrpartno-5397-/162248342637 Hillman pan head sheet metal screws. Size 4 x 3/8 Item#5397 I think I bought these at a hardware store.. They match the MIO screws almost identically..

WE BEAT HAPPY TO DEATH (dedication found on original disk)
MEtalGuy66 replied to ijor's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I hate that.. What thread is it in? I will come join the flame war on your side.. I want a shirt that says "You made me a PIRATE when you tried to CHARGE MONEY for INFORMATION!" fuck all IPR.. -
I bet you are a millennial.. You'd have had a nervous breakdown in the 80s when you paid your money via postal mail and then had to "allow 6-8 weeks for delivery"..

1200XL: good idea! There are at least three different "spring design" 800XL keyboards. Some are MUCH BETTER than others. The "spring design" xe keyboard sucks only marginally less than the "cup design".. The XE just needs a new keyboard altogether, or its always gonna feel like cheap trash compared to the XLs..

Atari 600xl monitor mod by jeff popp
MEtalGuy66 replied to Syfo-Dyas's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Syfo-Dyas was killed by the Pyke Syndicate under orders from Count Dooku. He won't be responding.. Unless you can somehow summon his Force-Ghost. Unfortunately, I don't believe he was learned enough in the ways of the force to maintain his conciousness after death.. Very few Jedi from his time were.. -
Those 2 printers are very close to the same size.. The only real difference is height. The FX-980 is not wide carriage.. And, as I said, if you know where to look, you can find them cheap. Oh, and as a bonus, the electrolytic caps inside the Fx-980 have about 15-20 years less age on them.. It's like comparing an 1983 model truck to a 2000 model. I'm afraid it's just a better option in every possible way.

One thing that is also worth noting is that if your 4-port 5200 has an A/V upgrade board (such as the one sold my electronic sentimentalities), the VCS adaptor is not going to work since the video output of the GTIA is being completely rerouted through the A/V upgrade board. Someone should do a revised mod for those wanting to use the VCS adaptor with a 5200 that has on of the various A/V upgrade boards that have been sold in the last couple of decades.

Yeah, thats a 1983 model consumer grade EPSON printer that does 9pin print quality at 100cps draft.. The FX980 is a commercial grade printer from the late 90s that does like 580cps.. Huge difference..
-
At this stage, my friend, no Dot Matrix printer is easy to find and cheap.. Panasonic dot matrix printers were more of a consumer grade product, sold as a cheaper alternative to Epson/IBM, back when Dot matrix printers were still largely used with home PCs. The Epson FX-980 was definitely a business/commercial grade product, sold long after the consumer market had moved to ink jet and desktop laser.. While most of the panasonics ended up in the land fills long ago, there are quite a few Epsons still floating around (or even still in use) from businesses that are still required to support impact-printed forms for one reason or another.. Just about any dot matrix printer made in the last 35 years supports epson FX/MX and IBM emulation modes as a minimum.. I picked up two FX-980s for free in a surplus lot from a rental company that had closed down a few years back.. They are still relatively common, as are the Okidata, TI-880, IBM infoprint series, AMT/DataSouth, etc... Yeah, they cost an ass-load new... But like always, second hand and surplus deals can be had if you know where to look..

The FX-980 is a tractor feed printer. If fact, it can tractor feed from front, rear, bottom, or top.. It also has a sheet-feeder attachment for single sheet operation.. And its way better than any PANASONIC junk..

There is a difference in the EXTSEL circuit (pin 3 of Freddie) on various XE generation machines.. Some, there is a +5v pullup here, others, it is left floating, and still others, it is hard-wired to +5v (eg. machines that do not have an ECI interface). Do both boards treat this signal exactly the same?

This is an excellent game. Best to come out in a long time. Please continue the development. The game play mechanics are fine, as far as I'm concerned. With a comfortable controller, I can make it through several repetitions of all 5 time periods. It is challenging, but not at all unplayable. There is definitely room for increased enemy action and difficulty.

Ok. Just confirmed it.. The 8bit version does run from the DOS 2.5 menu on a bone-stock 800xl. Guess I need to find a better loader menu for my floppy...
-
What loader works? It doesnt work using X TPILOT.EX_ from the SDX command line..
-
I cant get TPILOT.EX_ to run on a real NTSC machine. TPILOT16.EXE runs great on my NTSC Rapidus 130xe...
-
f*cking awesome.. Any chance of a 5200 version of Time Pilot?

wanna sell it?

Latest disk-based version of SpartaDOS?
MEtalGuy66 replied to squonk's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
4.48 is the latest version of SpartaDOS X.. It doesnt run from disk. It has to run from Cartridge (or other hardware such as Ultimate1meg, IDE plus 2.0, SIDE/SIDE2, etc. that has a dedicated flashrom space for it.) They do have ATRs designed to flash those various devices. Yes, SDX in the last decade has become by far the most advanced OS ever run on an Atari 8-bit computer. -
Latest disk-based version of SpartaDOS?
MEtalGuy66 replied to squonk's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Thats not true.. SpartaDOS 3.3a/b/cPro is based on old spartdos 2.x source that Steve Carden and Ken Ames got from Mike Gustafson. They were actually made for the specific purpose of running BBS Express Pro with various hardware configs. 3.2G is the latest (newest/most up to date) disk based version of SpartaDOS.. Mike Hohman of Fte released SpartaDOS into the public domain at the same time of this version release. REALDOS is Steve Carden's sole creation and he maintains it. -
