Thanks! Right now, one definitely has some Atari ties, but it's not strictly Atari-focused. Sorry that's a tease, but it's all I can say for now...

I really like the 8bit computers too. We've talked a lot about the potential for Atari sequels, but I don't think there's a large enough market for that focused of a follow up, at least for a big publisher. It could be great for some Kickstarter efforts or something along those lines. But I'm continuing on with other projects. Here's our latest: https://www.amazon.com/Undisputed-Street-Fighter-Anniversary-Retrospective/dp/1524104663/ I'm also working on something else video game related, but it's still in the negotiations stage. Thanks again, all!

Thanks. Why yes, I just edited and art directed the next book in the series we're doing. It's called Undisputed Street Fighter: https://www.amazon.com/Undisputed-Street-Fighter-Anniversary-Retrospective/dp/1524104663 Working on negotiations for some other books too. Some video game related, some not.

Thanks so much for the kind words. Glad you are digging it. And to those who wish there were more arcade art in it, some of that was a function of practicality and space. The current incarnation of Atari has no archives so everything--and I mean every single piece of art--was personally sourced by me. Some of it came down to what was practical to find. It's a lot harder to find beautiful arcade art examples and then photograph them. And I also wanted a book that would appeal to a wide audience. The 2600 is such a touchstone for many, many people and the source of most of the best art.

The original Atari also shut down pirates and people using their intellectual property without asking, and were pretty litigious too. Activision, anyone?
-
Thanks! Would love it if people leave positive Amazon reviews, if you're willing. That is a huge help in getting more books made.

Actually, the followup book, Art of Atari Poster Collection: https://www.amazon.com/Art-Atari-Poster-Collection-Lapetino/dp/1524103020

Cool. Well, I finally got a good look at the final books and I'm really happy with them. I think you all will be too.

So I just heard from Dynamite. Apparently there was some issue with books getting shipped from Diamond distribution to Amazon. They seemed to be sitting on them for some unknown reason. But they are now going to be shipped to them so they will be available beginning July 4. Sorry for the delay -- it's pretty annoying. Any Chicagoans who don't want to wait for those to ship can come buy a copy and have me sign it tomorrow night, June 22, at Logan Arcade in Chicago. https://www.facebook.com/events/216057835573744/?ti=icl

So just got a message from Dynamite. They are perplexed by this too as the books are being shipped from Diamond, the distributor. Not sure what Amazon's issue is. But at least we know books are moving.

Hey, all. This is a complete surprise to me. I checked in with Dynamite, my publisher, and they are looking into it. I'm not sure what's going on but I will update here and on Facebook as soon as I know more. I'm honestly pretty frustrated. Thanks for the patience.

That would be cool, but it's also a tricky thing because some of the games sold on AA aren't totally licensed versions of their respective intellectual property. I would understand if a company like Hyperkin might not want to step into that gray and muddy IP area.

Thanks for connecting with the community, Andrew. This all sounds very promising and we appreciate the lengths you're going through to make this happen. I'm not a tech guy, but I hope you're also considering Trak-Ball controller support, and maybe the 2600/7800 Atari DPads too: https://i.warosu.org/data/vr/img/0015/79/1398689880452.jpg The proposed price point is solid and I think this will be a great thing for the community too, if people can get in and tinker with it. Thanks!

Tempest can probably answer that better than I. -
Atari 5200 Kids Controller Prototype -- I have another one!

It looks like Alpha Beam is the same as the 2600 overlay, but this Cookie Monster one says Cookie Monster's Garden, which is different than the final release. I believe that was its original title. -
So, in my research for Art of Atari, I was able to acquire this prototype Atari 5200 Kids Controller from a former Atari employee who had it stored away. It even has some of the overlays, as you can see. I don't think anyone else actually has the 5200 KC overlays that I'm aware of. I know the one seen at CGE (supposedly the only one at that point) was reportedly non-functional. I'm not sure about this one, as I haven't yet opened it up, and also have my 5200 in storage for the moment, so I can't test it at the moment. But I will take a look at some point soon. It's a super cool piece of Atari history, and I'm excited to share it now with all of you!
