  1. Thanks for the notes, you all! It means a lot, as this has been a huge labor of love. I'm excited to share the whole thing with you all in October!
  2. Haha, yeah, I was waiting for someone here to see that and mention it. It went out with some press release images -- some from the WIP book, and apparently some from other sources. I'm not sure where it came from, honestly.
  3. Hey, Jag experts. This console is not my area of focus, but in finishing up the Art of Atari book, I found this great image. I *think* it's from an ad or brochure of some sort, but would love to be able to accurately nail it down. Does anyone recognize where this image came from? It looks like this kid (who frighteningly sort of looks like me at that age) is playing Cybermorph. Any help is totally appreciated! Thanks!
  4. Hi, all! If you didn't know, I'm an author of the upcoming book on Atari box art -- the Art of Atari. (http://amzn.to/1W5v3Jb) And also here: and over here http://atariage.com/forums/topic/220583-art-of-atari-book-in-progress-and-need-help/ I'm also a part of another project on Kickstarter right now, a bonafide documentary about video game box art itself. It's the vision of director Rob McCallum, who has done a bunch of other great work, including the documentary Nintendo Quest. I'm serving as a producer on the documentary, and hope to provide some context, connections with artists, and an overall look at art and design in the classic gaming era. It's shaping up to be supercool, but obviously, for it to happen we need to meet our Kickstarter goals, then go beyond them. We'd love your support and help to just get the word out. This will definitely include a serious look at Atari, but will also go far beyond into the bigger video game world. So, please check it out, and let me know if you have any questions. We're excited to make it happen! For more details: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pyreusa/box-art-a-gaming-documentary
  5. Thanks, all! We are wrapping it up and can't wait for it to get out there into the world, especially for all of you!
  6. Yep, Amazon is the only place you can pre-order at the moment.
  7. It will definitely be available through Amazon, as well as local comic book stores. Not sure what other bookstores it will be sold in. Thanks for the kudos! We are just as excited!
  8. Thanks, Nathan. For some reason I can't edit my post. In any case, here's another story with more detail: http://comicsalliance.com/dynamite-art-of-atari-hardcover-preview/
  9. Along with this USA TODAY article, I'm thrilled to finally make this official announcement -- finally. THE ART OF ATARI will be published this fall by Dynamite Entertainment. With co-writer Robert V. Conte I'll be showcasing the artwork, design, illustration and industrial design of Atari and its classic games. This book will be the definite look at the creative culture and work of Atari. Now that it's officially out there, I will share some more stuff here with the community as soon as work on it slows a bit. Much more soon! Here's the early version of their promo site for the book: http://artofatari.com/ Thanks to you all for the support and help!
  10. Will have an official announcement TOMORROW. For real!
  11. I'm looking to buy an Atari 800 in good condition with minimal case yellowing. Doesn't even need to work necessarily, but needs to be in really nice visual condition. Thanks!
  12. Thanks! Things are moving along, but I can't announce it all publicly. Waiting for the marketing folks to give the green light still. Hopefully soon.
  13. Hey, all. Things are pretty nailed down, but in the midst of working hard on the book, I'm just waiting for the OK from our publisher's marketing department to be able to talk about the details publicly. As soon as I can, I'll spill all the beans!
  14. I was shocked I was able to get one of the gloves on eBay recently for a really good price. They don't seem to come around often.
  15. Well said! Thanks for the note, and I'm excited to share details as soon as we are allowed.

    The Stacks

    Awesome. Looking forward to it!
  17. Not trying to start something, but do you have any evidence to support this reasoning? As well as that of the rectangle change? I am very curious.
  18. I'm just waiting on a final word from the publisher, and then I will give you all the info I have! Thanks!
  19. Ah congrats! This thread also just passed that mark too. Got it. Nice work!
  20. Yes, I dig the Activision art too. It's not part of the book I'm working on, but it's a great series of pieces. And that's cool that we're at 100+. I should be able to announce some really official news some time in January. I want to say more, but I'm not allowed to get specific until then. But it's great news.
  21. Yep, it was the 400/800 Football cover art. Donkey Kong was cool as was DK Jr. It's a great collection. The Strong just announced the acquisition, and it still needs to be processed and cataloged, etc before it goes into the ICHEG collection. It's not yet available for public viewing -- I was able to see it all in relation to MOVA and the Art of Atari book I've been working on.
  22. Yes -- besides Surround, there was one of the 2600 console, some Dig Dug manual illustrations, Nintendo-licensed game art (DK and DK Jr), some football illustrations, and lots of hand-drawn logos, mockups, and much more.
  23. Yep, Cliff Spohn's original Surround art was one of the pieces included, as well as some great spot illustrations of the 2600 console, Dig Dug, and color production art for some of the Nintendo licensed titles. A lot of in-progress production art too -- so, in all, a lot of great art and design in this huge lot.
