  1. I'm as happy as can be. A taco stand in my neighborhood (2 blocks from my apartment) now as the arcade version of Burgertime! I have an emulated version of the game on my computer at home, but it's just not the same.

The game control isn't the same. The way the ball of the joystick feels in your hand. Standing to play makes it more exciting because it gets your blood pumping as you crouch in a battle stance.

I can play it for free at home, but know I'll be in the taco stand as often as I have free time. No substitute for the real thing.

  2. Crazy Climber is the Holy Grail for me as far as 2600 games go. I should have ordered it from the Atari Club magazine when I had the chance. I have a bootleg emulation of the arcade version of CC, but the control use is rather awkward. I envy you man. Enjoy your game. Please report back and tells us all about it.

  3. I bought Activision Game Vault #3 which has

Action Pack 1-3. I have WindowsMe and (I thought) a fairly high grade Gateway computer, but apparently I didn't have an soundcard that is compatable with GV #3 so I don't have sound at all. This sucks becaue I was jonesing for the Pressure Cooker theme music and I can't hear it now. Also, the games are nearly impossible to play on the keyboard. JOYSTICK required. Does anyone know what joysticks/gamepads are compatable with this game when played on the WindowsME?

BTW the custome service at Activison is great. They were very helpful in solving my no sound problem.

  4. If it makes any difference, I gave it to a dear friend who loved video games as much as I do. You miss my point about the squeaky noise that joy sticks make. Does anyone else like that sound too?

  5. Yes, the cutesy graphics are awful and. The pewtrid pastel colors of Japanese animation make me gag. I do feel that the gameplay is in the spirit of the original.

The jumping on the burger parts 3 times added a cool twist. What did you think of the trapped princess saying "Burgertime" in that baby voice every 30 seconds? I actually thought that was kind of fun - in an annoying kind of way. I've heard of Peter

Pepper's Ice Cream Factory, but have never played it. Do you think I could find an emulation of it?

  6. I would like to try Peter Peter's Ice Cream Factory, but the original Burgertime is my first true love. Bragging Rights: has one else finished all 6 levels of Burgertime playing a coin-op version of the game?

  7. I just played a bootleg (don't ask me where I got it -- I don't want to get anyone in trouble) of the 1990 game, Super BurgerTime.

It's Japanese and was never released in the US. The game is structured like Super Mario Bros. Five worlds, 4 lands in each world, land 4 you fight a boss villian.

I LOVE BurgerTime (hence my name) and was very excited to play an upgrade of my favorite arcade game. The graphics are too "Hello Kitty" for me, but the gameplay is great! They sure did super-size Peter Peppers adventures. More baddies, weapons, and this time Peter can also jump.

I did make it through the whole game the second time I played it, but only thanks to the continue-from-where-you-last-die option. If I was playing this in the arcade, I would have spent a year's salary to complete the game.

Has anyone else out there in Atari-land played Super BurgerTime? Maybe we can compare notes.

  8. My unit does not work either. The color is all washed out and pale and there is no contrast, so you cannot tell one object from the other on the screen. I didn't even get 15 min. of entertainment out of it. It appears that I got a defective game. I sent an email to ToyMax customer service weeks ago and STILL have not heard back from them. Not only is their product crappy, so is their customer service.

  9. I didn't know that. I've been so focused on 2600, I never noticed. I'll stock up on my quarters and check it out. I'll check that out.

  10. Of the various upgrades of classic games I've heard about (Asteroids, Space Invaders, Dig Dug, Pac-Man) the one I've heard the best reviews about is "Ms. Pac-Man and the Golden Maze" for the PC. I have "Galaga Destination Earth" for the PC and enjoy that.

The frustrating thing (just like the arcade version) is you cannot save your game. You always have to start at the beginning. At least you don't have to keep feed it quarters.

I totally agree. Moon Patrol has to be the best 2600 arcade adaptation ever. I would have been happy if they just got the music down, but all the elements of gameplay are there and faithfully rendered. Even though I have a bootleg copy of the arcade version of Moon Patrol, I would consider getting the 2600 game again just because I played it more than in the arcade it's just such a damned good game!
