I thought exactly the same

would be cool indeed! maybe Google maps can help do that?
-
It would be nice to have a world map indicating the density of Jaguar fans by regions, no?
-
Well right now NO ONE has a CF, so for now its the CD that's available. You HAVE to know not everyone will buy a CF either, so I still dont see the difference. The difference is at the level of potential availability and price (you know, it is an argument against the JagCF by the way )
-
I think a good distribution scheme would be (at least for the games I am involved in): - binary file freely available, people pay what they want (a bit like Radiohead last album) - a more luxurious CF version with a box/manual is sold at a fixed (low) price.

JagCF last news before the before the launch of final proto.
SebRmv replied to GT Turbo's topic in Atari Jaguar
Just to clear things up: I am in favor of the ability to play ROMs on the JagCF, but 1-it has been offered to developpers to discuss on a case by case basis about mechanisms to prevent from playing their (cartridge) games on the JagCF. 2-the JagCF will allow to play new games distributed on Compact Flash; for those new CF games, an anticopy protection mechanism is planned. Hope I did not make a mistake. In case I did, please could you correct me Zero^2? Seb edit: changed the presentation in order to make a distinction between my own opinion and general facts -

I understand this, but anyone with the same FPGA dev board can develop a flash for it of there own. It would not be hard. The CF would need some external, custom circuit to defend against this and that would further add to the cost and still would not guarantee a crack free product. I don't think that "anybody" will be able to do that. Moreover, as far as I know, SCPCD planned to protect the FPGA itself from curious people... do not ask me details because I am not really an expert at this. Why has not SCPCD approached Myself or T-Bird directly? I few talks with him and what he plans to do to protect other developers may sway us. It's not like he can't PM us or anything. Every developer has been invited to subscribe on the Jagware forum to discuss about the JagCF. You did not want to do it, that is your choice. -

Exactly and we are trying to help you out by telling you what would make us trust this device. Unfortunately after some of the posts i've read here that will not be much anymore. I fear it is not the truth. Your only solution is "remap the base address of the extra RAM" (I do not agree with this statement but well, this is not my point here). But after that you say: "even if you do that, since it will be possible to flash upgrade the JagCF, we won't trust you". -

They may want to release it on Compact Flash medium since there will be an anti-copy protection mechanism. It will be cheaper to produce and cheaper for the Jag lovers. Some of us do not buy the protection. We have no idea how it works or if it is good enough. As long as the CF is flash upgradable, it can be altered to counteract the original protections in it. The flash upgradability is an important aspect of the JagCF because it allows to fix potential bugs even after the release of the hardware. So, there is a part of trust here. Otherwise, it is a dead-end. -

I figure the statement in bold is at least partly directed at me. To which I will reply: What part of "just because I disagree with it philosophically doesn't mean I'll avoid buying it, especially if good games are made for it" isn't understandable? Because, y'know, I've stated that several times already. Seriously. Stop replying with "if you don't agree with it 100%, don't buy it", as I've already answered that, philosophy aside, I'm looking forward to the product. But looking forward to it doesn't mean I have to agree with the philosophy behind it 100% and doesn't mean I shouldn't, on a forum for opinions no less, avoid voicing my opinions. So, please, everyone replying with that nonsensical answer, stop already. Jeez. Since when has voicing an opinion, stating a disagreement in philosophy, amounting to a personal attack? Some are acting as if voicing my differing philosophy on an add-on to a video game console on a forum for such things is akin to a personal attack. Get a grip. Sorry, I did not want to be rude. Actually, I have made a wrong shortcut. I should have split in two parts: 1-Discussing about the technical features is great but won't change anything (obviously, it will not be redesigned to have slower performance). 2-For people who do not like the JagCF (and apparently there are some strong opponents), just don't buy it instead of bashing it. -

No problem Seb. I'd actually be interested in the CF if it turned out to be a relatively inexpensive full featured Alpine replacement. It was not against you, it is just my general feeling about this thread and how it got polluted by sterile debates. Anyway, then consider yourself happy because as far as I know, it can be considered as a viable and cheap Alpine replacement -

Firstly, I think this "Jag-Ware vs Jagware" debate is of no interest at all. You may open another thread about this topic if you **really** want to "discuss" about that. Secondly, this debate about the performance of the JagCF is purely sterile because it won't change anything. If you are not interested in this device or don't like its spirit, then just don't buy it. And thirdly, of course, the JagCF can be seen as just a new development kit for a stock Jaguar (but this is very restrictive). PS: these remarks engage only me. -

Keep the faith SCPCD and Zero, a silent majority of Jaguar fans is supporting you. And the famous slogan "Power without the price" is about to revive, thanks! -
Thanks for your feedback Maybe one day I will make an improved version (not coded in 5 days)
-
Thanks happy to hear that you enjoy it Cheers

I am wondering which music you are talking about?? As far as I know the FrogFeast preview does not have the flies or sound and music. I guess there has been a new new preview during the time The version I was talking about is the pre-release. It has one more step to go before being released to the public. Lucky guy!

Does the title screen Show ''Press A Button"? If so. this is the older version. You need to redownload the file. Yes it shows the ''Press A Button" , where's the new version? You have to download again the file (which has changed on the server).

Personnally, I have always used Mathias'howto described on his website http://www.mdgames.de/jaguarcd/CreatingJaguarCDs.html It is really strange that you have such problems with the CD version, hope you will find a workaround...

I am surprised that nobody answered Myst. It is certainly the game with the best graphics on Jaguar. The technically more impressive ones are probably Tempest 2000 and Iron Soldier 2. Tempest 2000 is of great fun too. For Iron Soldier 2, I have not really played it yet so I reserve my judgment. Finally, the "not to miss" game on Jaguar is surely Rayman: cute graphics, great playability and long liveness. My top three favorite games are: Rayman Tempest 2000 Super Burn Out
