  1. Yes, you are right. I just do not wanted to open a flame war between C and assembly (if you know what I mean)
  2. On the contrary, Doom was programmed in C and wow. Whatever the language, if you code bad algorithms, the program will be slow. Back on topic, I believe the main problem of Checkered Flag is the poor gameplay.
  3. I guess people were saying the same thing when the JagCD was released. Actually, you are right, JagCD was a total failure If Jag fans wanted a X32 they would had got a SEGA, from what I can see the JagCD is the best thing going on for the Jag. Didn't you all put a game out on the JagCD? ATOMIC Things that make you go Hmm? Listen, I am a Jag fan and I am very interested in the JagCF. Do you concede me this right? I am pretty sure that SCPCD would finish his project, even if nobody was interested in this device (which happens to not be the case). Do you know the meaning of the word "passion" ? A true Jag fan doesn't need a JagCF to play Jag games, he all ready has every cart/CD that was made for the system and that same Jag fan wouldn't want a add on to play games that makes the Jag into a other games system, its not a Jag after that. I have every cart/CD that was release in the Jag's life time plus the games that were release after the fall of Atari now that is passion! Perfect. Fine for you. It happens that it is also my case. And yet, I am excited about this new device. As a developper, I am mainly interested in the storage capabilities. I am planning to port one my famous Falcon software for the Jaguar. The JagCD, and the "development" kit Atari released, is just a bad joke.

  5. I guess people were saying the same thing when the JagCD was released. Actually, you are right, JagCD was a total failure The Jaguar itself was a failure...how can the CD drive not be? I do not remember ANYONE ever complaining about the Jag CD in such a manner. Exagerate much? I DO remember Jagware fans saying it was dead....maybe that is a wish of Jagware? You know, the percentage of people complaining about the JagCF is really negligible. Maybe, say 20 persons for more than 6 billions of people. Almost 0.

  7. Now I am quite confused, as you're insinuating that Gorf is the one making talk about the JagCF, when he didn't bring it up in the first place, only responded when others brought it up. Well, don't try to remake history. Someone said that JagCF was missing in the list and then come post 32 and the followings where things began to degenerate. Not remaking history, just presenting my viewpoint on how it went down, and your point validates mine. From his viewpoint, Gorf was doing an education. From others, he was trolling. I think he has points, but I feel that JagCF has a purpose as well, so I still maintain that a balance can be made to de-fang his attacks and make the JagCF a unifying force in the community rather than a dividing. Incidentally, you did just as much as Gorf to degenerate the topic, so do not proclaim innocense. Nobody on either side of this arguement I'd call innocent. You all should be ashamed of yourselves for behaving like children! I remember I had a rude answer to one of your posts because I believed you were trying to troll also (remember this vaporware thing). You then changed of behaviour and I changed my mind about you. If I were a child, I would say "let's do a list of my posts in this thread to see if I have really contributed to make this topic degenerate" You would be surprised of the result
  8. LOL! Well, there are other ways of keeping score. But if you want to make one with a High Score counter, that would be awesome. Actually, I was wondering of making a new version much more polished of the game (keep in mind that I coded this game in a hurry just to gain confidence in Jaguar development) Maybe one day, who knows...

  10. Agree! (and I WILL definitely participate to the HSC... thanks for your invitation ) Sweet!! And maybe we can have an Atomic contest somewhere in there. *cough* maybe I should add a High Score counter before

  12. You're a few people short... but most of them aren't Atari-folk. of course, I should have added "at least" so you are working together with Gorf?
  13. So, when re-reading carefully this thread, we learn that TWO people are working (together?) on Jaguar 2: Gorf and downix? Have I correctly understood?
  14. I have not really investigated the blitter yet but is it true that blitter commands are double buffered? Which registers are concerned? Thanks The entire register bank of the blitter is double buffered in the Oberon and it is also 64 bit wider that TOM....yes 128 bits. Also keep in mind there are new registers in the blitter for one command triangle and bi-linear filtering. Ok. You are talking about the Jaguar 2, not the Jaguar, aren't you?

  16. I don't think so. I believe that if is was the case, the ROMs would already have been dumped and distributed.
  17. Your arguement falls flat on it's face. That is akin to the arguements that because it is easy to duplicate a piano roll (ancient device used by player pianos) makes illegal mp3 filesharing ok. Piano Rolls are difficult to replicate accurately, taking skill. While yes, one could roll it out, and duplicate it, that takes time, and skill, to do, and if you mess up, you can easily destroy the original roll. If you try and mod your jag to BJL w/ an Alpine, you can easily destroy the whole unit. You mess up with the Alpine, poof. Again, there is a difference between a key grinder, and an autolockpicker. Anyone can own a key grinder, very few people an auto lockpicker. So, if you consider that dumping is difficult (and I agree with you there since it requires some skills in soldering/electronics), there won't be any problems with future releases on cartridge. (and especially if you consider that the only people that would buy them are Jaguar fans that DO NOT want to pirate those titles).
  18. If developpers are really concerned about piracy, then definitely JagCF will be the way to go. Clearly JagCD offers no protection at all. Cartridges are not sure since it is possible to dump them (eg with a BJL modded console) and burn them on EPROMs or run them under emulators/Flashcards/Alpine boards.
  19. Talk about a paper tiger. Nobody's discussed hammering down on ROM sites or bashing ROM traders or what have you. I happen to have a few ROM's to games I own so i can play them on MAME, and a lot of people do not have the same kind of ROM reading capability I do, so I can see the point to this kind of service. To have distributors have to check every person for legality is insane. It is far simpler, and more effective, to make the products so as to minimize piracy convenience while not hindering consumer use. My idea above, about remapping the memory while the CF card is in place for new homebrew or even commercial apps, while remapping it to normal ROM space using a USB link with the CF removed is a prime example. Sure, someone could grab a ROM, download it over USB, and have to repeat it every time he wanted to play the game. Not going to prevent piracy, but will make it a mild enough discomfort so as to encourage the purchasing of a legal copy, correct? It is not up to a web site to police inside peoples homes. And if JagCF does not do the remap as I have suggested, I wouldn't blame them, nor be mad at them, I just would be dissapointed in that a perfect opportunity, one to encourage a regrowth of commercial applications, not just homebrews, for the Jaguar was missed. and heck, I'd still probably buy it. Are you aware that the JagCF will include a protection mechanism for any future game released on the CF medium; thus providing better security than any other medium before?
  20. Yeah, a vaporware nearly 150 or 200 people have seen in real at the Retro gaming Connexion and AC Connexion events. Litlle troll over 10,000 people saw the BoXeR prototype at various Amiga conventions. Hundreds of thousands have seen the Amiga Walker prototype at conventions. both still vaporware, and always will be so. Until the day it ships, it is vaporware. Same goes for any product. So please just ignore the JagCF existence and behave as if it was really vaporware.
  21. It seems I have to kick your butt
