I'd like to see someone build an FPGA based 8-bit and/or 16-bit Atari along the lines of the Minimig or one-chip MSX. I think this would be more reasonable and doable. It would be great for it to have an SD card slot, VGA and joystick ports, etc. I'm a little surprised this hasn't already been done. If it has please send me a link. MetalGuy are you listening?

Man Ax, your wife is the best! Not only does she let you have all that but she helps you sell it as well. Wish mine was that understanding. Guess it would help if I got rid of something occasionally.

I wonder if the coupon was mainly targeted at sellers? I was surfing that day and didn't receive a coupon. Then again I'm always a buyer

Thanks for all the great information and links! It's nice to see that there's an active TI community.
As for a dev-type cart, I was hoping I could purchased a fully-assembled one as my hardware skills (or lack thereof) leave much to be desired.

I think that's the Xbox I bought from the Ax man
Seriously though, I think it's time for a new girlfriend. It's not so much that she demolished the Xbox that bothers me but I'm thinking that if she's capable of that, what else is she capable of? I'm not sure I could fall asleep before her. She was reasonably hot FWIW. I guess that would be her redeeming quality...tjb

I experienced this earlier as well. When the search did work, it didn't seem to return all the results. I was searching for a couple of specific items I browsed earlier and neither showed up. Once things were going again I was able to find them. This is a the first time I've ever seen this sort of behavior from Ebay. I've seen it slow but never unable to search.

Has anyone produced any homebrew cartridges for the TI-99? Are there resources available for cartridge building? That's one thing the Atari scene has a wealth of. It would be nice to be able to produce a ROM image using PC-based tools and then burn the image to an EPROM in order to run it on the real hardware.

It's definitely possible. I personally am not a hardware guy but there are people here that are capable of performing the necessary mods. At one point I was talking with Longhorn Engineer here at AA about converting a 4 port of mine to use a regular power supply as well as adding an A/V mod. You might want to contact him. He does great work. He has a web site:

Another interesting read...can't wait to read part two! I'm tempted to ask if TCS was profitable but I would imagine that's one of things discussed in the next installment.
Off topic, was the Solid States article/program what originally started you down the path to doing all the 3D programming you've done in the course of your career?

Any chance you might post a binary for Impossible Mission with the God mode flag enabled? It would be nice for people like me who can't get very far in the game. I'd just like to be able to look at some of the screens I wouldn't normally be able to get to.

get a USB multicart. The old sean kelly ones are so outdated compaired to the USB version.
Good call. Clearly I wasn't thinking or I wasn't thinking clearly.
The USB version is cheaper (as least if you look at 4-jays price). Their old site had it listed for $145 while AtariMax has the USB cart for $129. Not to mention the USB version it has a menu as opposed to dip switches for program selection and you can put whatever you want on it. I guess this is all null and void if you're a collector and simply want Sean's version just because.tjb

4-Jays may have it. I know they advertise Sean's 2600 Multicart and I know at one time they sold a 5200 Multicart (not sure if it was Sean's or not). Shoot them an e-mail. Here's a link to their web site:

Even if they don't have it listed, they can often get whatever you're looking for.

You can put me down for 10 sets. The only reason I haven't responded before now is that I simply didn't notice your post. I've been pretty busy with work but things are beginning to return to normal.

Do you still keep in touch with Kyle and the other guys? It would be nice to know what he and the others are up to these days.

As I said earlier, to each his own. There will always be people who will like what you've done and others that won't. It's just the way it is. Your tool could be perfect and there will still be people who disagree with it's implementation for whatever reason, right or wrong. If people say it sucks without any suggestions or constructive criticism I'd take those with a grain of salt. As for those who provide useful comments/suggestions, take that as a opportunity to improve your tool, not as a personal attack. Admittedly, often it's all in the delivery of the message. Some people tend to be more politically correct that others. Either way don't take it personally and definitely don't let it detract you from developing the tool.

To each his own. FWIW, I'm particularly interested in the MSX support...I recentedly picked up a one-chip MSX.
