It looks fantastic! I'll definitely be buying a cart (or two) assuming a release is forthcoming. tjb

It never dawned on me to have a keyboard-only scheme until Mr. Fish pointed out that the original used only buttons. I would really like to leave it up to the user. Maybe allow use of any combination of joystick (regular or sega) + keyboard. That way you have the freedom to choose. I'd definitely like to try using the keyboard exclusively. tjb

True, but then you'd have to choose between from flipping 180 degrees, hyperspace, or engaging the shield for the joystick down/back function. The other two would have to be activated using the keyboard. There's also the EMP (Electro-Magnetic pulse) powerup that acts as sort of a smart bomb. With the 5200 you have access to all these at the same time. I'm hoping to support the Genesis game-pad so that A8 owners can use all these without having to fall back on the keyboard. tjb

Thanks for the sources and the info! I probably just needed to go into the "source" directory and go from there. The utility I was using had a plus (+) beside the "source" entry. I wasn't sure what this meant. I may have been using MakeATR. The utility was GUI-based and had options to extract text and binary files neither of which worked for the "source" entry for some strange reason tjb

It would be ideal if new games could take advantage of the controller. Did you by chance extract the Action! source file from the .atr file. I've been looking for a utility to do this and have tried a couple with no results. tjb

The Atari 8-bits have a whole keyboard to use. The original Asteroids doesn't use a joystick. It uses 5 buttons. Optionally, the 8-bit version could be programmed to use a sega gamepad. From what I understand, at least one extra button can be utilized on these controllers. Good points. Ideally I'd like to allow the user to customize the controls. It might be interesting to play using only the keyboard. When you say Sega gamepad, are you referring to the Genesis gamepad? Does it have to be modified? tjb

That was my initial reaction but I thought I get some opinions. tjb

So what do you think is a fair price for this lot? eBay Auction -- Item Number: 260532997069 It averages out to around $15.15 per cart. Certainly some of the carts of worth more but some are worth less. Thoughts? tjb

Was this released on the A8 or still a WIP? Not played it yet but found a traditional looking version on Atarionline.plAsteroids II I initally wrote it on the A8 then ported it to the 5200. Eventually there will be versions for both. I do have it setup for conditionally assembly but I haven't been good about updating the A8-specific code. I liked the 5200 because the controllers have two fire buttons and a keypad. I use one button for fire and the other to engage the shield. The keypad is also used. tjb

No offense taken. The game is still a WIP. For one thing the timing is way off, as you destroy Asteroids the remaining ones get faster. This is not intentional BTW. Did you play it on real hardware or using an emulator? tjb

Any chance you have an A/V modded 2600 or 7800? tjb -
I loved Galahad. It was one of the first games I played when I got my first 1050 as a teenager. It's a great game if not a bit frustrating because of the randomness. The author is now a Javascript architect at Yahoo and creator of JSON. A couple of years ago I was looking to become more knowledgeable about Javascript and ran across some presentations given by the author at Yahoo. I thought that was pretty cool. I've completed the game but basically all the planets have to be in alignment to make it happen. There is a way to kill the "monster moth" but I think it's more a quirk in the program rather than something the author intended. IIRC there are three areas that require keys but pressing SELECT at the beginning makes these areas open and makes it somewhat easier. Also, I do know that the game is prone to locking up on the XL/XE machines unless you use a translator. tjb

My apologies. I meant no disrespect. I have removed my original post. And FWIW, I have purchased used Jags for roughly the same price they can be had new. When I heard the price posted I did a little research to find out where it came from (obviously not difficult since the number of sources to obtain them new can be counted on one hand) and when I found a lower price I was a bit surprised and posted it. I meant no harm. tjb -

My batch arrived yesterday, thanks! tjb

My 2 sets arrived today! Outstanding work! As with your Analog and Antic sets, these are very professionally done. Thanks for doing this for the community! tjb

Very impressive! It looks to be spot on with the original. Did he simply study a port for another platform very closely or maybe reverse enginner a port for another platform and then re-implement in on the TI? BTW, thanks again for the cartridge board! tjb

Can I order an additional set after everyone has had a chance to get a set? I'd like to have another one but I also don't want to keep someone else from owning a set. tjb

Feliz Navidad! tjb

I'll take a set! tjb

I'm afraid it's only a ROM for emulators at this point unless you have a cuttle cart or something similar. ...or you could burn an EPROM yourself or have someone else do it. However, if there is enough interest in a cart, maybe we could make it happen. Same goes for the Double Dragon Arcade hack. I have a Cuttle Cart 2 and a Harmony Cart. One of the two should work. It would still be cool to have an actual cart, however. tjb

Cool! Thanks for the info. I'm afraid I missed your blog/hack. I'll have to pick up a copy once the AA store reopens. tjb

Duh. I've seen maps for the 8-bit and 5200 versions but never bothered to look for a 2600 version. Thanks, tjb

Having read about the differences between the Atari 8-bit computer and 5200 version of the game I was curious if the 2600 version has an ending. Is there a room with Montezuma? Does it just start over and get progressively harder? Has anyone mapped it out? tjb

Wow, this price has jumped to $42.95! Glad I snagged one when it was still $25. tjb
