  1. Wow. If Jeffrey didn't constantly bash the Reboot crew over at JSIII, maybe this could be construed as a friendly joke. But given all his history here and over there, this can only be seen as an attempt to stir the pot.
  2. That's funny. I thought I had a complete Jaguar collection for a few months before I discovered I was missing some shitty soccer game. Just like you, I knew I'd never play it. And just like I did, you know you're going to buy European Soccer Challenge.
  3. An update on this: I checked the pins on the problematic controller more closely, and two of the pins in the bottom row were indeed bent slightly out of place. I bent them back with a screwdriver and then had no problem getting the controller to fit. I've spent about two hours with the first controller and a half hour with the second. Both play beautifully now. I've also compared them side by side with my authentic pro controller. They feel nearly identical, and they seem to be equally responsive. I have not had any issues with the keypad buttons sticking, but I have not yet played any games that use them much. Yes, the shoulder buttons on the new pro's are "clickier," but that does not bother me in the slightest.
  4. I ordered a few replacement Jaguar game boxes from Best Electronics earlier this year, along with some other goodies. I got the shipment in two separate packages, but one of the replacement boxes I had ordered wasn't there. I thought maybe one of the packages had been stolen from my doorstep or something, but there was only one tracking number shared by all the packages, so tracking wasn't going to be helpful. It turned out he had just forgotten to toss one of the replacement boxes into the mix, and he did send it to me later, but only after he insisted the box had been included with the first shipment and that it was my mistake. He's definitely temperamental, but he's also one of the only sources for some of this stuff.
  5. I've kept a list for around 6-7 years now, and in that time I've finished maybe 20 games off of it. The trouble is that the list grows much faster than the progress that I do make. And while some of the older entries on the list might only take a few hours to complete, the new additions to the list tend to take much longer. That being said, a few of the games near the top of my list are: Final Fantasy VII Mario 64 Conker's Bad Fur Day Castle of Illusion (Genesis) Adventures of Lomax Resident Evil 3 Contra 4 Some of the more prominent titles I've gone back to and finished in recent years: Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon's Curse (Master System) Resident Evil: Veronica Code X Yoshi's Island Gradius (PCE) Snatcher (Sega CD) Beyond Good & Evil Devil May Cry 3 Marathon Final Fantasy VI Eternal Darkness These are only games that I haven't finished before. Part of the problem is that I'm always going back to my favorites to play through them again. It's hard to work on Doom 64 when I'd rather take Jag AvP for yet another spin. And it wouldn't be Autumn if I didn't play through a few of the Castlevanias. Plus there are always new games coming out that I want to try. Resident Evil 7 and the God of War reboot are on my list too, but I only mentioned retro titles here.
  6. I got mine a few days ago and was unable to try them out til last night. I think they feel fine. I haven't compared them side by side with my pro, but I'd say their comparable at the very worst. However, I am only able to test out one of the "new pro's," as I can't get the other to plug into either controller socket. I have a pro and four original controllers, and I've never had a problem connecting one. It doesn't look like a bent pin or anything obvious, and the controller that DOES attach is also a little tricky to fit. Has anybody else had this problem?
  7. Wow, how awful is it that so many haven't followed through on their pre-orders? It's a huge financial risk for one guy to take up a project like this. Anyone who pre-ordered but didn't pay ought to be ashamed, not just for hurting this project, but for discouraging the next guy who might want to undertake a similar venture. Hopefully the bulk of the non-payers just haven't had a chance to place their order yet, or are unaware that the time has come. I know it's easy for me to say, but these controllers will probably sell out before too long, whether or not it's the original customers who buy them. And if nothing else, Starwander could probably sell them via ebay. (Yup, even without the Atari logo.)
  8. I love the Raiden series. The original is one of my favorite games of all time. I thought Raiden 2, DX, 3, and 4 were all great, as well as the Raiden Fighters sub-series. But I hate Raiden 5. There is a stupid voiceover narrative during the gameplay and unskippable cutscenes. I don't mind that they fleshed-out the story, but I don't want it to take precedence over the action. You now have a lifebar. And the worst thing is the low contrast between the bullets and the bright background, making the bullets hard to see...a mortal sin in shmups.
  9. I hope I'm not being premature here, but will there be any sort of waiting list for the left over copies? I'd love to buy one when they're ready, and I know I'm not the only one.
  10. I prefer the red Vulcan and regular missiles in the first three stages, and the blue laser and homing missiles after that. The TurboGrafx port of Raiden is weird. The first stage has lots of extra enemies added, so it's much harder than most of the other versions. But once you get to the second stage, it's super easy (probably because you're more powered-up) and stays that way until the boss of the third stage. When you have your Vulcan cannon maxed out, it seems much more powerful than in the other versions.
  11. I'm excited to have these in curved lip carts. I just placed an order. I would love to order all six, but I can't afford a purchase that big at this time. I didn't see an option to leave a note. Will all orders be getting curved lip carts (while they're in stock, of course), or do we need to specify that we want that version?
  12. Here I thought I was the only one. I rarely use my Xbox One compared to my PS4, so I've never really learned the ins & outs of the UI. It's stupidly hard to find anything on there, even the games.
  13. I had plenty of fun with Lollipop Chainsaw back in the day. It took me awhile to get used to it though. At first it seemed like all my attacks were weak.
  14. Seeing these photos has really made my night. It's like taking a step right back into my best childhood memories. Thanks for sharing. Wow, that's a really good way to put it. When I was a kid with my first game system, a Lynx II, I would pour over the Grey Matter magazine, looking at screenshots and reading the write-ups over and over, and then I would go to Electronics Boutique to see if they had any of the games I most wanted. Then I had to pitch the game to my folks, and finally I might be able to go get a new game. And then I would play it for dozens of hours. Now I get whatever I'm mildly interested in, and I don't even play a lot of what I buy. Or if I do, it's not usually for all that long. I have literally hundreds of games that I've played for less than an hour. It's such a far cry from my gaming hobby as a kid.
  15. I was able to beat my score by a little. I'd really like to 1CC this game some day, but the furthest I've gotten on one credit is 1-3. My current hi-score is 1,976,780.
  16. Looks fun! I'm guessing by the music it's an Amiga port? The BGM sounds straight out of Shadow of the Beast.
  17. Which version was on the Sonic Mega Collection compilation (PS2, Xbox, Gamecube)? That's the only one I've played. I put an hour or two into it and never felt the need to go back, although it certainly wasn't terrible. I remember thinking it must be the Saturn version, as the graphics were too good for the Genesis. But then there's a lot of graphical trickery you can do a la Donkey Kong Country, and the likelihood of a Saturn title being emulated that well on the PS2 isn't too high.
  18. I'm really surprised at the amount of whining about no multiplayer. Not so much here, but mostly on Facebook. Yes, Bomberman is traditionally a multiplayer game (and one of the very best too). But most of the installments have a fantastic computer AI in battle mode, which is good fun. If Bombercats is half as fun as that, it will be a great time. This is not your project. Be thankful for what is being done here. If it's up your alley, support it. If not, then don't.
  19. So many good ones. I was never into Shmups until about 2001, when a friend made me play Gradius III on the SNES. I hated it. I was so bad and he was so good. But after a few months, I got the urge to give it another shot, and from then on, I was hooked. I'm still terrible at Shmups. My only 1CCs are Nemesis on the Gameboy and the original Gradius on the PC Engine. But I love the genre and easily own more Shmups than any other genre. Still, I'm not sure I'm qualified to rate the best. That said, I would go with something like: Gradius Gaiden (PSX) Giga Wing (Dreamcast) DoDonPachi (Arcade) R-Type (Arcade) Radiant Silvergun (Saturn) Ikaruga (Xbox 360) My personal favorites are: Gradius Gaiden (PSX) Raiden (PSX) G Darius (PSX) Shikigami no Shiro 2 (PS2) Lords of Thunder (PC Engine) Gunbird 2 (Dreamcast) Sol Deace (Genesis) 1942 (Arcade)
  20. Sorry for the bump, but I had to chime in. Alien: Isolation is probably my favorite game of the last decade. The tension is unprecedented in gaming. Yes, it takes a few liberties with the franchise, most notably how noisy the Alien is. But it all works so well. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the attention to detail stunning. We're so used to Alien games taking inspiration from the second movie that having one directly inspired by Alien just seems so fresh. I didn't play the game on Hard mode. I played through it on Normal, then started up a second game on Nightmare but stopped about a third of the way through. Nightmare wasn't too difficult, but losing the function of the motion detector took a lot of the fun out of the game for me. I don't think it's fair to say Normal mode is way too hard. It takes awhile to learn what the game expects of you. But once you do, you should be able to play for long stretches on Normal without dying. You just have to be very cautious at times and take things slowly.
  21. Crap! I didn't realize the high score competition was finally underway. I had been checking here every couple days earlier this year, but after awhile I gave up and forgot about it, and now I've missed the first two rounds. Oh well. Here's my score for Raiden. I found that the secret to this game is to just let your hand go numb so you can hammer away on the fire button without the pain. I'd really like to put some more time into this, but in case I don't get the chance I'll post this now. 1,826,890
  22. I had never heard of Video Game Critic until I read this thread yesterday. But I went to his site and read some of his reviews, and I don't see why anybody cares what that guy thinks. He fawns over the SNES and far too harsh on everything else. He gave Slime World, Dracula the Undead, and Blue Lightning all bad reviews, bashing them for problems that don't even exist. His complaints about Slime World in particular make it clear he didn't take the time to figure out how the game works. I guess when you write thousands of reviews, you can't afford to spend more than a few minutes on the obscure games.
  23. This looks awesome! Lynx + Bomberman, two of my favorite things. I would absolutely buy a cartridge if you did decide to go that route.
