1. Looks pretty cool. I'm going to have to download MisfitMAME and track down some of those hacks. :)

Edit: I have no idea how I managed to double post! I think Satan made me do it!

  2. I have your blog yet to visit to get all that info - and I'm most definitely getting Protector.

I can't advertise for these guys enough:

    Richard Hutchinson's page: http://www.vectrex.biz/

    Mark Shaker's page: http://www.vectrexcarts.com/

    ... and a great news page: http://www.vectrexnews.com/

This comes with an overlay, if it doesn't add all that much to the game play - it's yours..   I'm in it to play the games, not have a proper collection :)

Gosh, that's incredibly generous of you! Thanks so much! The devil on my left shoulder tells me to snatch it while I have a chance! However, I couldn't feel good about seperating it from your Vectrex to complete my own. I'm also more of a player than a collector, so I can surely wait till I find a loose overlay. Again, thank you!

The devil on my shoulder is now screaming at me about how stupid I am for not taking it while I had the chance.

  3. an old b/w one called Boot Hill. I believe Outlaw was based on it.

    1003643

Boot Hill is the exact opposite of "obscure".

(and so were Klax, Bbomberman, Rampart, and Bubble Bobble)

    1003758

Of those you listed, I have only seen Bubble Bobble and Atomic Punk (a clone of Bomberman) in an arcade. Every arcade is different. So what may have filled the arcade around the corner from you might be obscure in my neighborhood.

  4. He can charge what he wants for the hack.

I am sure that there are some that will pay $50 for it but not nearly as many that would buy it at $20-$25.

    1003036

I agree... I honestly don't care how much Charles sells these for (being crazy with the collection bug has its downfalls). I don't want royalties from those cartridges he sells. However, I did not give exclusive rights to the artwork and so I will make it available to anyone who wants to use it.

If someone burns the (freely available) ROM and/or prints off the artwork for their own personal use, it seems a bit paradoxical to cry piracy! The entire Cyplix project is based on piracy! Cyplix is a hack of Bi! Bi!, which is a Taiwanese pirate of Sea Hunt. Pac-Man and the ghost monsters (no matter how you rename them) are the property of Namco.

Of course, I would have an altogether different opinion of the situation if Atariage or Packrat started producing the game and selling it in their stores without Charles's consent.

    :ponder: Not gonna happen!

  5. mojofltr did do the label and has given me the exclusive rights to use the label in regards to the cart.

I do not remember any such conversation. Perhaps you assumed as much.

I didn't have him design the labels so that cheapskates can make pirate Cyplix carts.

I made the label as a fun hobby project, not to make you money!

mojofltr made the two label variations for me to put on the carts, not for people to make their own labels for pirated carts. This was an understanding between the both of us. It is really quite obvious.

The first label was entered into your contest on the forum and happened to win. The art was posted in a public thread and anyone could have downloaded and printed it. I wouldn't have posted it so freely if I thought it was a big deal, really.

I redrew the label on my own to fix some things that bothered me about the original. Until I posted it (again publicly) in one of your many Cyplix threads, you didn't even know it existed. So, to say that it was created exlusively for your use is wrong.

That is my perspective on the whole thing. Fifty dollars for a hacked game is steep.

:ponder: Maybe if it came with a hand carved Cyplix case, Pac-man sockpuppet, and a pair of Kepone underoos, I'd reconsider.

  6. If anyone would like to upgrade the label on their old Cyplix cartridges, the artwork is online to print.

Making your own carts even from RETAIL PRICES would cost no more than say:

    7 dollars for the board

    2 dollars for the EPROM

    50 cents worth of soldier

    1 dollar for the shell

1 dollar of uber high grade paper for the label & manual

1 dollar worth of ink for manual & labels

That adds up to $12.50 USD, So even say double that for your time & efforts hacking the game and building the carts that makes a total of $25 USD taking into account full market value for all parts AND still doubling your money.

Well, the ROM is in these forums somewhere and I just posted the artwork, so building your own is certainly an option. My only reservation with Charles was that he didn't use my art on cheap merchandise (coffee mugs, mousepads, t-shirts etc). Otherwise, I don't care who prints the label for their cartridges, manuals, or boxes.

  7. I think the VCS port of Donkey Kong is decent. However, even with its crappy control and graphics, I think that Airlock is a more entertaining game... which influenced my vote.

  8. I made it to level 8 tonight... and was surprised to the point of involuntarily crying, "OH MY GOD!"

Great game... it's been since the days of D&D on my Intellivision (when the bears and dragons would chase me) since I remember crying out while playing a video game!

  9. My high score is just under 13000. The game is ultra-addictive in a cuss-at-the-screen kind of way.

I'm impressed at the variety from stage to stage! It's one of my favorite VCS games, for sure!

  10. I bought mine for 35 dollars shipped! :) You will need to buy a ColecoVision PCB from Atariage to connect to. They are 8 dollars.

    some more info:

The adapter consists and a PCB (which the VecFlash plugs into) and a ribbon cable and IDC connector (which an AA CV PCB plugs into). It doesn't come with the CV board (32K with socket version).

You need to load the games with the MultiFlash loader, and then they are selected with a DIP switch (with CV power off) and hitting reset runs the game. The VecFlash must be programmed in the Vectrex (not CV).

  11. The VecFlash is great! The only thing I don't like is that I have to haul my Vectrex into the computer room each time I flash the cart. That's only temporary though because I'll be moving an older PC into the gameroom to use for DOS games and with my VecFlash, Krokocart, and Supercharger! ;)

So... how many of you have one of Richard's multi-console adapters adapters so that you can use it with your ColecoVision!? I bought myself one for Christmas. There are a lot of great arcade ports on the ColecoVision! :)

  12. Interesting, I checked it out in MAME! the Galaxian hardware Zig Zag has some interesting differences including the pickaxe, while the Dig Dug hardware Zig Zag doesn't seem to have anything different besides the logo. The pickaxe is a nice feature... it's just too bad it isn't on the Dig Dug hardware bootleg because I don't really care for the glitchiness of the other.

    :ponder:

I've always been more of a Mr Do fan. All this time, in Dig Dug, I've usually killed the enemies with the pump instead of using the boulders. Until I opened up the VCS ROM and saw the bonus fruits, I'd never even seen any appear in the game! So I go back and realize that moving about and breaking the boulders (tilling the soil) made the ground more fertile and fruits and vegetable snacks were to be had! That realization alone just made the game 100 times more fun for me then it ever has been before!

    :dunce:

  13. This morning, my housekeeper brought over a box of Atari stuff. I told her that I would list it here and see if there are any offers or if I could see what it might be worth on eBay. I was tough with the ratings, so if there's any interest, I'll try and get pics later (my camera is on its way home from Germany) .

Nothing here has been tested yet, but I can test most of it (except Genesis crap) upon request. Make me an offer or feel free to tell me what you think it's worth (if anything)... maybe as a starter collection. ;) Thanks in advance.

  14. Whoa. What would one need to do to get that to run on a real Dreamcast? Just download the BIN and burn it to a CD?

I dumped the contents of the download into my inducer folder (subdirectory of SBinducer) and was able to create an image that way. The game seems much harder than I remember! Stupid worms with fangs!

Anyways, I uploaded the file for anyone who doesn't want to mess with creating an image themselves. It should burn easily with software like Discjuggler or Alcohol 120%.

    Another World

BTW, this image won't work in Chankast, because SBinducer discs crash the emulator. :(
