  1. I dug (heh) through the ROM and found some locations for graphics. I'm not sure if I got everything, but I think it's close. There were some weird zigzags in the ROM too! Maybe this is space that could be used for better graphics?

  2. hey i made a port of Fall Down in qbasic back in august.

it's my favorite homebrew that i owned (i had Fall Down, Star Fire, Skeleton+, and Mental Kombat Philly Edition).

if anyone is interested i can post it. i don't want you guys to think i'm spamming the board.

Please post the game. :) I'd like to check it out.

  3. If you truly are living paycheck to paycheck without a dime to spare, may I suggest a book by Dave Ramsey called Financial Peace Revisited.

:ponder: If he had 26 dollars to spend on the book, he'd probably have bought some of the games.

  4. I had an Intellivision II growing up with about 30 games. It was my second console, alongside my VCS, and so I will always have a soft spot for it. I loved playing games like Tron - Deadly discs, Utopia, Bump 'N' Jump, etc. As someone already mentioned, the Intellivision has the best console port of Burgertime ever! We also had the ECS expansion; I watched my brother animate a black bat on the screen before he decided that programming wasn't his thing. I spent a lot of time composing my own music (noise) on the keyboard. Back then, with all of its little gimmicks, the Intellivision seemed so very advanced beyond the VCS.

The controllers sucked though, it's undeniable. In a fit of nostalgia, I bought myself an Intellivision I in a thrift store about 10 years ago. The controllers are a ton better than the Intellivision II controllers! Still, I understand the hatred for those blasted side buttons!

I only saw a ColecoVision once as a kid. When I was 11 or 12, my friend's dad had rented the machine and we tried to hook it up and play while he was away at work. When we finally got it set up, we realized there were no games to play. :P I never saw or heard anything about the ColecoVision for years after that until I got online and looked up "classic videogames".

I bought my ColecoVision a couple of years ago. It's quickly become one of my favorite gaming machines with all of its fantastic arcade ports. I recently bought one of Richard Hutchinson's multi-console adapters for my VecFlash and have been able to play more of the ColecoVision library... it's been quite a trip! I'm also a big fan of the ColecoVision's thriving homebrew scene.

As you see, I am quite fond of both machines. If I had to choose one ore the other, I would have to choose my ColecoVision; I'm really glad that I don't have to choose between them though. :)

  5. Here's a quick (long) list of some favorites. I'm not sure how obscure they are, but I've never seen any of them in the arcades. A lot of these are cutesy platformers too... so be warned (if you aren't into that sort of thing).

  6. I should have said, I had nothing to do with the site (apart from  this)...

I just thought I'd chime in and give a thumbsup for Richard's multi-adapter! I've only had mine for a few days and I'm loving it! It is well worth the money.

Also, thanks for the link! The page looks very promising! :)

  7. Quick update...

The platforms don't flicker nearly as much now. I changed the condor graphic. It's a smaller bird now, but I tweaked the game so that it comes out immediately and is pretty determined to pop your balloon. The only thing I don't like about this, is that the condor sound effect can get a bit grating.

I still can't find the egg color to turn the balloons red. :|

  8. Q-boing is one of the best hacks I've ever played. What a great idea!  :)

    991811[/snapback]

Thanks! :) There are a lot of functional hacks that are far better... mine are only graphic hacks, but it is nice to know that they are appreciated. :D

Here is the new WIP of Balloon Fight. There are a few things I'd still like to fix if I can figure it out. 1)The platforms flicker and shift back to the original color 2)Red Balloons 3)Player 2 and "wave" colors are horrid

While tinkering with the ROM, I also found out how to make the guys fat... which kinda makes them look more like the NES game. Unfortunately, this also throws off the collision detection a bit, so the player can partially go through the left edge of platforms. Another cool thing I found I could modify made the game skip the egg altogether... or seemingly so. The egg was replaced by a different colored enemy that could be picked up like an egg... but flew around like normal. This kinda gives the feeling of double hits. The last thing I found is a place in the code that when modified, it slowed down the upward thrust of the bird. This was cool to a point, because the VCS version of Joust always felt like it had too much power in the wings of the birds, but unfortunately in making this modification, the framerate seems to go down and the movement doesn't look as smooth. I don't know if I'll use any of these things in the end... maybe I can figure out how to tweak them.

  9. Heh, thanks. I was thinking about making a label also, but I would like to see what you come up with. ;)

I seem to have misplaced the ROM for the Balloon Fight/Joust hack I did a while back. If anyone still has it (and wants to post it), I'll take another look at it and see if I can get the colors right.

  10. All gone!  Thanks guys!  8)

While it's nice that you're helping someone out, you and a few others are living proof of why Albert should permanently disable the edit feature. :|

I send my apologies to the mods and to everyone else for any and all wrong-doings on these boards in the past.

  11. Out of curiousity, I ran each of the ROMs that sku_u listed through my Krokocart to see what results I would get.

I don't have these ROMs to test:

    Aotmafos

    Autorennen

    Bingo

    Spider Kong (plain)

    Time Race

    Time Race 2

    Time Machine

These ROMs rolled on my tv:

    Base Attack

    BiBi

    Year 1999

    Spider Kong (Goliath)

    Robot Fight

    Phantom Tank

    Mission 3000

    Forest

    Fire Birds

    Duck Shoot

These ROMs did not roll on my tv: (although, I noticed a little jitter in some of them)

    Air Raid

    Zoo Fun

    UFO Patrol

    Time Warp

    Ski Hunt

    Panda Chase

  12. Mojofltr, I'm curious if you have ever tried the original rom on your Krokodile Cart to see what it does. If you had a tv that for sure rolled with PAL carts it would be even better. I know one of my tvs rolls, and the other doesn't.

I haven't tried the original rom, but I will right now. My tv does roll with PAL carts.

    //edit//

I just tried the original ROM and it runs fine too. :? I've tried many PAL ROMs on my Krokocart and Supercharger and they all rolled. Weird.
