1. Quick question:  Did the 2003 Holiday cart have a manual?  I don't remember it offhand, and I may have to go digging further through my things if it did.  I have moved 3 times since then.  :P

No, there was not a manual for 2003. There was one last year, though, which looked like a greeting card from the cover, but the interior contained instructions for the game.

    Thanks, Al! :) I didn't think there was. ;)

Again, the quality of these carts is superb. Sometimes I wish I were a collector, but I just can't do it. :D

  2. Honestly we had to make 3 not always pleasant occasionally emergency trips to Ohio back then and I didn't even look further in that thread, lol. My fault, lol, and just my luck.  :D

Thanks for the offer of the 04 cart though, lol we're good and taken care of on that one. :D

 Sorry to break it to you this way. 'DOH!

:ponder: That's usually how my luck goes. Sometimes sucks to be human, eh? I wanna be like my cat... he doesn't give a squat about these sorts of things and is still happy. Ahh, how would it be?

"How'd it be to lead the life of a cat?"

I wonder. He purrs 'neath my loving hand.

I think that I could learn to live with that

Besides, I'd never have to work again!

Wouldn't mind a nice scratch behind my ears

And someone to rub my tummy sometimes

Someone to console my sadness and fears

And fix me my dinner between naptimes

Free love like the sixties, feline goddesses

I'd Make friends with every stranger I meet

Someone else cleans up all of my messes

Sleep all day; party all night in the street

Dinner of mice sounds very unpleasant

Life of a cat did at first seemed appealing

But now I'm sure that it really isn't

Grit 'neath my toes couldn't be a good feeling

Thoughts of eating mice had to go and spoil it

'n' In my life, 'least I can use the toilet

    [edit]

In case it was missed the first time: Was there a printed manual for the cartridge? I'd prefer not to spend hours hunting if there wasn't. ;)

  3. @Chicky: I offered you a cart way back when, but without response. I have now offered Wonder007 the same cart, but you're next on the list if that falls through. BTW, the 2004 cart has your name on it, if you need it. ;)

    [edit]

I should say... I'd only give these up because I am not really a collector, only a player; I have Qb in my stash and I'll never give it up! The 2003 cart is incredibly cool, but I can't say it gets much use from me... as a player. These sorts of carts belong in a collector's hands. Again, I totally admire Andrew's work... I hope to see much more in the future. ;)

  4. So these Holiday carts...Are they just empty with a cool label?

I think they're filled with candy. At least, that's what I'm hoping for.

    971025

I hope they have blinking red and green LEDs!!!

:ponder: The candy idea is good too!

Maybe (since Andrew has always worked with the Holiday carts in the past) we could have a version of Boulderdash with Christmas characters!!!

    The premise:

It's Christmas Eve when Santa sets out on delivery. The elves and reindeer are pissed that Santa gets all the credit for their good deeds and turn against him. The reindeer have stolen the sled and scattered presents and toys over the land. They've even recruited the abominable snowman to evoke avalanches over rooftops which block Santa's pathway to each chimney. Santa must collect the goods and make each delivery while pushing snow aside and avoiding the reindeer, elves, and snowmen, to eventually make his way to the chimneys!

Admittedly, I've had too much to drink tonight. Perhaps my post should be in this thread. :D

  5. The new trailer for Debris is posted at http://www.vectrexnews.com/.

    //edit//

I just watched the video. While the graphics are nice enough, it doesn't seem to have a lot going on in the game... yet.

The music is for the trailer is an odd choice; I'd have liked more to hear the Vecvox and other sound effects in action. Of course, the game is not yet complete, so only time will tell.

  6. Is it a Genesis controller? While An Atari controller will probably play Sonic (only one button needed during gameplay), you'll probably still need to hit the <start> button on the controller to start the game.

:ponder: That is all IIRC... I haven't had a Genesis hooked up in years. :P

  7. Not a killer hack but I'd like to share a link to an interview with William Mensch, 6502 designer.

    Real format video of interview

    891481

That was an awesome interview, but man, I greatly disliked the interviewer.

He bumbled with his words and he sounded like a smart ass and only genuinely interested when it seemed like something he knew already.

I apologize if its someone here or another "legend" in microprocessing, but man, I can't stand the interviewer. But Mensch was awesome.

    896314

Yikes! I couldn't agree more! The guy sounds like he drank a couple of bottles of Robitussin before the interview! :P Still, when he isn't talking, the video is quite interesting.

  8. Plus Alex compiled a bunch of original games into two banks of games for the VecFlash.  It's kinda like having two mini-multicarts within the VecFlash.

:? I missed this somewhere... Did the VecFlash come preinstalled with these? I didn't try the cart out before I programmed it; Have I lost these forever or are there ROMs floating about the internet?

  9. I don't see anywhere that you can order a cart, but the game looks cool.

    962802

yes, cartridges will be available, but only a small batch for now : problem to find enough materials to produce many.

Still no information yet about ordering, but I would assume that it'll eventually be posted either at the author's homepage or on this thread at DP.

  10. One more vote for the VecFlash!

Also, Vectrex homebrews are incredibly inexpensive, so there's no reason not to pick up Protector/YASI, or any of the other wonderful Veccy homebrew games! :D http://www.vectrexcarts.com/

Here, I posted my thoughts on Protector. Alex Herbert is a genius. I was so impressed with the 'about' demo and music in the Protector/YASI cart that I've forced at least three friends to watch it now... and I only first played the game three days ago! I guess I could sum up all my comments with one word and an exclamation point - "WOW!"

  11. Up again.

    Up up up and down

    Turn turn turnaround

    Round round roundabout

    And over again

Gun gun son of a gun

    You are the only one

    That makes any difference

    What I say

The sun shines in the bedroom

    When we play

    The raining always starts

    When you go away

  12. I don't think I own any PAL games, but somewhere I got the impression that the toploading NES consoles would play them. :? Anyone want to confirm or deny it? I'm at work now (hard at work - heh), or I'd run a search myself.

Anyways, I'd also be interested in seeing a list.

  13. Well here's my idea of the first take on the Pac-Man Collection here you see that I used the idea images from the Mocrosoft Arcade Set box but I cant just used the images right from the box cuase there's tests in front of both Pac-Man and Ms Pacman so I had to start drawing it from scracth plus I added a mazs backdrop to see how it may look.

    Nice! :)

  14. You know there are skins that you can choose right? They strip a lot of the stuff that looks distracting (color, sigs, etc.) so it kinda pretty much ends up looking like AA.  It's all how you set your preferences :)

Yeah... but I have my browser set up to what is probably an unrealistic security level... I do not accept cookies. I know I'm crazy, but I have encountered countless obstacles - viruses, worms, spyware etc... in the past. I trust DP, but I don't trust many of the Warez, crackz, p0rn sites that I occasionally pull up.

I just need to hook up my other PC and let it be my little voodoo doll for these things!

But that being said.. after this last outage, who knows how it'll be when it comes back  :|

    960304

    :|

    I'm in a Vectrex/NES mode right now and I can't get anything. :(

:ponder: I think that the mods on either site are really good, actually - especially compared to many of the forums I've come across. Yeah, it seems that there are different priorities in each forum... that seems natural enough.

[edit] :ponder: I'm retarded. (feel free to quote me on that)

I just went to DP and realized that these settings were saved in my profile. Like I said, I don't post there much - it's just that all this time I haven't been logged in. :D

  15. ...DP and Atariage are the same site :)

    957546

I kind of wish that it were somehow possible for a merger. Both sites have plenty of meat and both have some gaps.

I admit that I spend more time on Atariage; the forums are easier for me to read (less "clutter"... and that's not meant as a jab). However, I'm a big NES fan as well as many other classic gaming consoles - it seems that DP covers a much wider territory as far as that goes. Also, I really enjoy many of the different articles that DP puts out regularly.

Again, both sites are very cool, IMO, but I can't get my fill at just one or the other.

:ponder: That's just my two cents.

  16. 2) Please don't use the Midway artwork as a template. As much as I am aware that it is in the US players mind, it is plain ugly. I would prefer if you use the Japanese version instead, or maybe even the Atari version.

Wow! For real? Although it's a little weird and not nearly as representational as the other Pac-Man art, the Midway art has always been one of my favorites! Perhaps I'm just partial to it because it is what I remember. :?

Anyways, I'll buy the cart regardless of what art is chosen.
