I used to dislike Adventure. I didn't understand what the hype over it was. When Nukey started hacking and adding on to it, I gave it a second chance and realized how great of a game it really is. Anyways, sku_u and CPUWIZ have given the advice I would give. Try a few games out in emulation to find which ones you like and want to purchase. Then go to the marketplace, here at Atariage, and post a want list. Then there is eBay, but I would definitely seek out your wants here first; There's too many ripoff artists on eBay.

One of my favorite hacks! I'm very excited to play this when it's finished!
-
Very cool! I'm so glad to see news about this hack!

Did you see the 1930's feature Gulliver's Travels? Some really neat effects in that one. I'll see if I can't pick it up. I read that they used rotoscoping for some of the animation. Cool! The last thing I think I saw that in was in The MAXX, but I can't be sure.

I'm not a huge fan of computer animation flicks. I have to admit that I was blown away by Toy Story when I first saw it in the theatre; I can't say I have any desire to see the movie again, however. I've seen most of the movies mentioned except for The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, and Ice Age (I tried to watch Ice Age one day, but had to turn it off. I don't know if it was just my mood or if the movie really sucked that bad). The funny thing is, I enjoyed the shorts before the films more than the feature films themselves. Does anyone remember the old guy playing chess with himself or the kiwi(?) birds on the telephone wire? I thought that was quality stuff! I enjoy traditional animation a lot more than the computer animated stuff, but sadly (not unlike video games) 2D seems to be a dying genre. My favorite will always be the original Tom & Jerry cartoons, closely followed by the various Tex Avery and Chuck Jones cartoons. Great stuff there - quick, witty, and humorous. As for newer stuff (I may get some guff for this), I like Spongebob quite a lot. I guess that's a bit off topic though because those aren't feature films. So, I suppose, of all the animated movies I have seen in the last 10 years or so, I think I enjoyed the Emperer's New Groove the most. A lot of people hated it, but I laughed my butt off.

I'm going to have to check this out in MAME. BTW, I think my next blog entry will have to be on Sports games. I can't stand watching sports on television, but I love playing the games. Maybe I can help you find something to change your mind about the genre.

I think 30 bucks is quite a bargain for 4 new levels and new intermissions! I don't have a DK cabinet though...

All I can do to boost my post count.

Looks pretty cool. I'm going to have to download MisfitMAME and track down some of those hacks. Edit: I have no idea how I managed to double post! I think Satan made me do it!

OK Vectrex Buy It Now - not mine
uosipa llamxew replied to holygrailvideogames.com's topic in Auction Central
I can't advertise for these guys enough: Richard Hutchinson's page: http://www.vectrex.biz/ Mark Shaker's page: http://www.vectrexcarts.com/ ... and a great news page: http://www.vectrexnews.com/ Gosh, that's incredibly generous of you! Thanks so much! The devil on my left shoulder tells me to snatch it while I have a chance! However, I couldn't feel good about seperating it from your Vectrex to complete my own. I'm also more of a player than a collector, so I can surely wait till I find a loose overlay. Again, thank you! The devil on my shoulder is now screaming at me about how stupid I am for not taking it while I had the chance. -
Cyplix NTSC with manual at 8-Bit Classics

Off topic now, but you guys should see my LOTR collection. Edit: I misspelled "my". It's probably the easiest word in the dictionary; Leave it to me! -
Best Obscure MAME Experiences
uosipa llamxew replied to NovaXpress's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Boot Hill is the exact opposite of "obscure". (and so were Klax, Bbomberman, Rampart, and Bubble Bobble) 1003758[/snapback] Of those you listed, I have only seen Bubble Bobble and Atomic Punk (a clone of Bomberman) in an arcade. Every arcade is different. So what may have filled the arcade around the corner from you might be obscure in my neighborhood. -

Wow, very nice, you lucky so--- Now you need to get yourself a copy of Protector/YASI from Mark Shaker and a VecFlash from Richard and you're set! I still can't catch a Minestorm overlay for a decent price. -

I don't own Strat-O-Gems yet, but I play it on my Krokocart with my AtariVox. I'm really not very good at the game (it gets too fast for me just after I hit stage 7), but that's okay because my favorite sound effect happens when you lose.

Cyplix NTSC with manual at 8-Bit Classics
uosipa llamxew replied to Atari Charles's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I agree... I honestly don't care how much Charles sells these for (being crazy with the collection bug has its downfalls). I don't want royalties from those cartridges he sells. However, I did not give exclusive rights to the artwork and so I will make it available to anyone who wants to use it. If someone burns the (freely available) ROM and/or prints off the artwork for their own personal use, it seems a bit paradoxical to cry piracy! The entire Cyplix project is based on piracy! Cyplix is a hack of Bi! Bi!, which is a Taiwanese pirate of Sea Hunt. Pac-Man and the ghost monsters (no matter how you rename them) are the property of Namco. Of course, I would have an altogether different opinion of the situation if Atariage or Packrat started producing the game and selling it in their stores without Charles's consent. Not gonna happen! -
Cyplix NTSC with manual at 8-Bit Classics
uosipa llamxew replied to Atari Charles's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I do not remember any such conversation. Perhaps you assumed as much. I made the label as a fun hobby project, not to make you money! The first label was entered into your contest on the forum and happened to win. The art was posted in a public thread and anyone could have downloaded and printed it. I wouldn't have posted it so freely if I thought it was a big deal, really. I redrew the label on my own to fix some things that bothered me about the original. Until I posted it (again publicly) in one of your many Cyplix threads, you didn't even know it existed. So, to say that it was created exlusively for your use is wrong. That is my perspective on the whole thing. Fifty dollars for a hacked game is steep. Maybe if it came with a hand carved Cyplix case, Pac-man sockpuppet, and a pair of Kepone underoos, I'd reconsider. -
Cyplix NTSC with manual at 8-Bit Classics
uosipa llamxew replied to Atari Charles's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
If anyone would like to upgrade the label on their old Cyplix cartridges, the artwork is online to print. Well, the ROM is in these forums somewhere and I just posted the artwork, so building your own is certainly an option. My only reservation with Charles was that he didn't use my art on cheap merchandise (coffee mugs, mousepads, t-shirts etc). Otherwise, I don't care who prints the label for their cartridges, manuals, or boxes. -
I think the VCS port of Donkey Kong is decent. However, even with its crappy control and graphics, I think that Airlock is a more entertaining game... which influenced my vote.

I made it to level 8 tonight... and was surprised to the point of involuntarily crying, "OH MY GOD!" Great game... it's been since the days of D&D on my Intellivision (when the bears and dragons would chase me) since I remember crying out while playing a video game!
-
My high score is just under 13000. The game is ultra-addictive in a cuss-at-the-screen kind of way. I'm impressed at the variety from stage to stage! It's one of my favorite VCS games, for sure!

Xevious, Ixion, EdTris, Oystron and more!
uosipa llamxew replied to panamajoe's topic in Auction Central
I wouldn't mind having a copy of Ixion. I didn't realize that Hozer was producing these. -
Looks great! I like the music - does it play during gameplay?

I bought mine for 35 dollars shipped! You will need to buy a ColecoVision PCB from Atariage to connect to. They are 8 dollars. some more info:

I like it!
