1. I think that Sega has always been too innovative for their own good. On topic: I love my SMS! I don't consider myself a "collector", but I do pick up games for the system now and again.
2. Some game ROMs must be "patched" in order to work with the VecFlash (Thrust stands out in my mind). The older version of the VecFlash does this automatically. VecFlash_38400.zip Long filenames will mess up the VecFlash menu. If, by chance, you accidentally mess up the menu (as I did), you'll need to replace your vfm.bin, rename the ROMS/shorten the filenames, and download them into your VecFlash again. IIRC, there are 16 banks, but one must be reserved for the VecFlash menu. Alex has compiled some 4k ROM packs. These will take one bank each, but have multiple games on them. It is rumored that he has some 8k packs in the works as well! My VecFlash is currently packed with: Gravitrex Moon Lander Omega Chase Protector / Y*A*S*I Repulse Scramble Solar Quest Spike Star Castle StarFire StarTrek Thrust Web Wars Wormhole

4. I don't think anyone here can say that they haven't had a dishonest moment. What I find disturbing is someone who prides himself on his own dishonesty. Still, what goes around comes around. Karma is a bitch like that... you'll get yours one day.
5. It seems like I read somewhere that Magical Tree is completed, but that Opcode wasn't going to have a public release of the game. Instead, a few lucky contest winners (Sky Jaguar contest?) have copies. I might be wrong. //edit// I found an unfinished remake of the game online. It looks pretty good so far, but the graphics are incomplete, so when you are climbing, dying etc... it reverts back to the original game graphics. Still, the remake is off to a good start and even includes a two player simultaneous mode. http://www.braingames.getput.com/
6. My two favorites so far: 1) Jeff Crouch's - #1 2) Dangerboy670's - all five
7. Thanks for your response! So, I tried playing Return to Vax, but I don't notice anything different so far. I assume now that the hack extends the game, but doesn't change the beginning levels(?) Unfortunately, I'm not good enough yet to play the new levels.
8. So I cleaned up an old pc to use as my DOS machine. I installed Windows 98, Tempest 2000, and a few others including Atari - 80 Classic Games in One. Soon I found myself stuck in a major Major Havoc craze. I love this game, it's so versatile, complex, and fun... I found this page while hunting online for game art, fansites, etc. It's so cool that this guy is hacking the game to include more levels and speech! Finally, my questions: 1) Does anyone know if the posted ROMs can be run in MAME or any other emulator? 2) If so, what emulator and what do I need to do (rename ROMs, etc) to do it? Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide any info. Well, I best get back to the game. //edit// Although it's probably too complex, I was just dreaming of a Vectrex port of the game.
9. No, there was not a manual for 2003. There was one last year, though, which looked like a greeting card from the cover, but the interior contained instructions for the game. ..Al 971147 Thanks, Al! I didn't think there was. Again, the quality of these carts is superb. Sometimes I wish I were a collector, but I just can't do it.
10. Sorry to break it to you this way. 'DOH! That's usually how my luck goes. Sometimes sucks to be human, eh? I wanna be like my cat... he doesn't give a squat about these sorts of things and is still happy. Ahh, how would it be? [edit] In case it was missed the first time: Was there a printed manual for the cartridge? I'd prefer not to spend hours hunting if there wasn't.
11. @Chicky: I offered you a cart way back when, but without response. I have now offered Wonder007 the same cart, but you're next on the list if that falls through. BTW, the 2004 cart has your name on it, if you need it. Quick question: Did the 2003 Holiday cart have a manual? I don't remember it offhand, and I may have to go digging further through my things if it did. I have moved 3 times since then. [edit] I should say... I'd only give these up because I am not really a collector, only a player; I have Qb in my stash and I'll never give it up! The 2003 cart is incredibly cool, but I can't say it gets much use from me... as a player. These sorts of carts belong in a collector's hands. Again, I totally admire Andrew's work... I hope to see much more in the future.
12. I think they're filled with candy. At least, that's what I'm hoping for. 971025 I hope they have blinking red and green LEDs!!! The candy idea is good too! Maybe (since Andrew has always worked with the Holiday carts in the past) we could have a version of Boulderdash with Christmas characters!!! The premise: It's Christmas Eve when Santa sets out on delivery. The elves and reindeer are pissed that Santa gets all the credit for their good deeds and turn against him. The reindeer have stolen the sled and scattered presents and toys over the land. They've even recruited the abominable snowman to evoke avalanches over rooftops which block Santa's pathway to each chimney. Santa must collect the goods and make each delivery while pushing snow aside and avoiding the reindeer, elves, and snowmen, to eventually make his way to the chimneys! Admittedly, I've had too much to drink tonight. Perhaps my post should be in this thread.
13. The new trailer for Debris is posted at http://www.vectrexnews.com/. //edit// I just watched the video. While the graphics are nice enough, it doesn't seem to have a lot going on in the game... yet. The music is for the trailer is an odd choice; I'd have liked more to hear the Vecvox and other sound effects in action. Of course, the game is not yet complete, so only time will tell.

Now you have a Vectrex, you really should pick up a few homebrews! http://www.vectrexcarts.com/ I highly recommend YASI/Protector, Gravitrex, Thrust, and Wormhole. Actually, most of the Vectrex homebrews are brilliant! Also, Richard has the VecFlash up for sale again. I couldn't recommend it more! http://vectrex.biz/
16. Is it a Genesis controller? While An Atari controller will probably play Sonic (only one button needed during gameplay), you'll probably still need to hit the <start> button on the controller to start the game. That is all IIRC... I haven't had a Genesis hooked up in years.
17. He needs to buy a new keyboard. That's really pretty sick!
18. I agree with you on Solaris and Moonsweeper. If it were me, I'd probably bump the last three out of there as I'm not a big fan of any of them. I'd probably replace two of them (as well as rearrange the list) with: Star Wars - The Arcade Game and Star Fire I'm sure with a little digging, I could find something else to fill the last slot.
19. I might if I were serious about bidding... just to be sure I wasn't agreeing to something stupid. However, Tiger Heli sucks a big socket wrench; I glanced at this auction to see what you were talking about, but there is no way I'm going to read through it.
20. That was an awesome interview, but man, I greatly disliked the interviewer. He bumbled with his words and he sounded like a smart ass and only genuinely interested when it seemed like something he knew already. I apologize if its someone here or another "legend" in microprocessing, but man, I can't stand the interviewer. But Mensch was awesome. 896314 Yikes! I couldn't agree more! The guy sounds like he drank a couple of bottles of Robitussin before the interview! Still, when he isn't talking, the video is quite interesting.
21. I just received my order from Mark Shaker! Pics here. Now I'm going to have to check Alex's page for those 4K packs! [edit] I guess I'm lame, but I don't see the 4k packs listed on his site.
22. I missed this somewhere... Did the VecFlash come preinstalled with these? I didn't try the cart out before I programmed it; Have I lost these forever or are there ROMs floating about the internet?
