I'm a slow learner... I'd like you all to start referring to me as Mo-Jo-FL-TR. LMAO! Now say "toy boat" out loud ten times as fast as you can! I'm a big fan of both Tetris and Pacman. To me it is hard to compare the two games from different genres. I don't think I'd even be into gaming if it weren't for these two games and the various clones sequels that they inspired. They say "imitation is the highest form of flattery" I should have re-read the thread before posting... I would have seen that Packrat made the cartridge. What might be interesting would be to do something similar to the strobing led cart you made for Ataritroll (if I remember correctly), with a hacked Bumper Bash or Midnight Magic that sends a signal the led strobe when a bumper is hit. Might be impossible though, who knows? Cool stuff. I'm a fan of your projects!

Nice! I don't have a copy of Jammed yet - that clear casing and transparent label really looks rad! Can you get 'em made this way through Atariage?... or is it custom job by CPUWIZ? On the topic of breaking cartridges... I bought a new Telegames Bump 'n Jump a while back that didn't fit into my machine. I was going to leave it boxed up and not play it, but the casing and label job on the cart was quite ugly and boring... and I needed my fix. So I tore the cart to shreds and extracted the board from inside. Now if I want to play Bump and Jump, I just plug the naked board into my Atari and bump and jump my way to ecstasy! ... Yay

Think you might post a snap of the clear cart here? :-) I am all for breaking old cartridges, cannibalizing common carts to make new carts, and even tearing apart cartridges to make shelters for your G.I. Joes. The plastic on video games and consoles makes the most satisfying crunch when beaten upon correctly. One time I got pissed off at an old toaster NES that I was reconditioning. I had fought the stupid thing for some time and eventually gave up and stabbed my screwdriver down through the middle of it. I was out two bucks for the console, but it was worth it just for that release of tension when I heard it crunch!

I have the cartridge if you can find someone who has the instructions and overlay. If you're not too picky, I think that there are places online where you can download and print out an overlay. You could probably get the instructions right here on Atariage.

Also, that Q-bert is a rarity 3 on the Atariage list... I think. And the Plaque Attack is a rarity 4. If you don't have a Colecovision already, I'd say nab that up. I paid a lot more for mine.

Wow! Maybe they aren't rare, but some of those games are gems in any collection! I don't know of any place around here that I can find anything in the wild. Even if I did, I'm sure that NE146 and Rick Weis would nab 'em up before I got to 'em. So I suppose at least for now the Atariage marketplace forum and eBay are my best bet. Robot Tank, Phoenix, and River Raid are all still on my list. :-P

The first Activision game we owned was Freeway. I remember thumbing through the Sears Wishbook trying to select just one game. I wanted Frogger, but my brother insisted that Freeway would be better because it was 2-players simultaneous. I even remember having to ask him what "simultaneous" meant. HAHA. Anyways, I never thought it was as good as Frogger, but it still got a lot of playtime on our system.

If you are any sort of action/puzzle fan, you'll love ChuChu rocket. I have only played the multiplayer mode a couple of times, but the game has great one-player modes. :-) I don't remember Bomberman having so many problems... but it has been some time since I had it out. I do remember thinking that the SNES version, probably #2 or #3, was better. I'm interested in what you'll have to say about Dynamite Cop when you get it. Like you, I prefer a short good game over a long mediocre/bad game any day. :-)

55 isn't an "even" number! I went crazy with Dreamcast stuff a while back. I have thirty or forty games. IMO, the innovative titles on the system really make it stand out from the other nextgen systems. I haven't played the PenPen game, but I will back up Atarinvader about Ooga Booga. This is a spectacular multiplayer party game! It's bright, colorful, and weird as ever! Gosh, just talking about it makes me want to dig it out and give it a go! :-)

I think that these smaller mini-games should only require one game cartridge. If the mini-games were different from cart to cart, I might be more inclined to buy a new game. The Mario Bros mini-game is pretty good, but I was pretty disappointed when I inserted my cartridge and selected the mini-game hoping to see something new only to find that it is the same re-hashed thing. If they must release the same mini-game on each cartridge, then perhaps they should at the very least have some sort of enhancements or extras from one title to the next that adds something new to the pre-existing game. New characters, weapons, or gameboards... anything! At least then, linking up the different variations would add variety to the gameplay.

Super Mario Bros 2 is one of the better US releases on the NES platform, but a broader view of things shows that Doki Doki Panic story makes a whole lot more sense. It's really cool that they turned it into a Mario game - in fact it probably lead to much greater sales and popularity than if the game had been released in its original form. At the same time, I really like the DDP characters and would have liked to see that story further unwind in a sequel. By hacking the game into Mario, it seems like Nintendo might have limited that opportunity for another great US series. The lost levels don't do anything for me. I might have been more interested back around the time I first finished SMB and was in the mode for more. Granted, the levels are much more difficult, but is there really anything surprising to look forward to in the game? I really don't know because I didn't play it that long, but as far as I could tell, it was essentially the same game reorganized. I think it was one of Nintendo's better decisions not to release this in the US. k

The cartridge case is an odd shape/size on the Telegames Bump 'n' Jump. If you tear the board out of the cartridge casing, it will work on your Atari. The versions by M-Network and INTV will fit fine without a problem.
